How To Make Cooling Fan Speed Control Circuit - Homemade Project
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video, I'm going to show you making a speed control circuit. Using this circuit you can control any 12v circuit easily. To make this circuit you might need some electronics component.
I bought all of my electronics component from lcsc.com
All Electronics Component Is Available Here - bit.ly/2MScr2I
Component List :
1. Transistor - BD 139 - bit.ly/2WSTEIn
2. Resistor - 22 k ohm - bit.ly/2Ln2LMa
3. Cooling Fan
4. Power Source - DC 12v
5. Volume - B 100k

What is model at LCSC for your volume rotary switch?
Good job..have any smooth controll
How can I make this to connect to power supply molex or sata port
Thanks for the vid. I found better results (wider range of adjustment) by replacing the 22K resistor with a 5K and the Pot with a 50K. This provided a range of ran voltage from 3V (low speed) to 11V (High speed) I let this run on high for about an hour, the BD139 got warm but not too bad although there's a couple of options. 1. A small heat sink with s drop of thermal paste to the transistor. 2. Set it up where the BD139 is in air flow. 3. Both Heat sink AND in air flow. Additionally, reverse the outer pins on the potentiometer/volume. The turning seems backwards so reversing these pins will make it left=slower and right=faster.

can i change that npn with pnp?what will change?
Super cool project. My first ever, so thank you. Two issues: 1) .145 amp fan as well as another fan, a .7 amp fan, don't get anywhere near top speed. Maybe I need a lower resistor? 2) Also the pot starts at high speed and slows down as I turn it clockwise (turn it "up"). Your thoughts? Thank you again.

Replace the 22k with 1k, the 100k to 10k, the author of this "project" has zero knowledge about electronics, no radiator for transistor, pointless. All values of this control unit components are absolutely the result of no actual knowledge.

Can I use a TIP102 NPN (100V 8A) replacing the BD139 NPN you show in this video, to vary the speed of a 12V 3.7A fan? I’m concerned with the lower transistor amp rating in the circuit you demonstrated.

This works only for low current fans, if you have a 0.5A and more amps fan you must add a radiator to the transistor. Also no more than 12v fans low current will work without overheating the transistor.

don't really understand, so bear with me... Why the transistor and resistor. I thought the pot was the resistor? If I can put a resistor in line to run it slower, why not put a variable resistor (pot) in its place to control speed. It's only 12v and maybe .05 amp fan... Just curious.. thanks!
@CreativeWorldPro

@des2610

Because the pot is only low wattage and may burnt out over time. Better to use the pot to control the very small current for the base of the transistor which in turn controls the much higher fan current through the collect, emitter junction of the transistor.

Like a small shed heater, they cost over $30 bucks for a shitty 5v dc heater but you can make one from scavenging broken parts from the trash! You'd be amazed at what Americans just throw away when it stops working...tvs, fans, heaters, even $300 push mowers and weed eaters!
