ShapeMemoryDoctor the filters are made from Cellulose acetate fiber and is used like binder in this project.

Hi, did you try the cigarette filter itself for cellulose acetate. I'm a heavy smoker so I tried dissolving few cigarettes buds in acetone. And casted the solution on glass. It made a film but it was so fragile. Any comment. Thanks.

I tried again few smoked cigarettes. This time I removed the paper and soaked it in acetone. Better results, stronger film and with graphite powder I got 100 ohms. Will test with unsmoked cigarettes, hehehe.

Mohamed Moussalli yes, I try myself and work. I add 6 filters in aceton. And I get slightly dense ink , then I add slightly more acetone for more liquid ink, on the finis I add graphite. Try other filters

Adding a little bit of another binder, would it make it less fragile? I've got Sodium SIlicate. I think I will try.

ShapeMemoryDoctor so, this conductive ink is not flexible. You can add some smal amount of sodium silicate, but you will make this ink slightly "stronger" but not flexible.

And what do you do with the cigarette filters, acetone and graphite ? Heat them together ? Just let them sit at room temperature ? You don't explain the process

Khaled El Nazer uf sorry,..... first you add the filters into acetone and mix so long that the filters dissolve then you add graphite and mix for more 5 min. But note the ink is not flexible. This was my weekend project and I thought I'd share it with you!

How much current has to be used to heat the ink as the heater you performed?

Jeffrey Rood I use maximum 5 watt. If you make more conductive you can use less current to make the same temperature. This was not my plan to make a heating ink, but I try anyway and perform nice job for some homemade ink.

What you have made is more of a conductive paint, which has been around along time now. If I was you, I would give up, as just yesterday on You Tube, I seen an advert for a pen that disperses conductive ink.

Give up??? Hahaha, dont be funy. I have a series of paint products, like multiuse paint, high temperature paint, super conductuve paint, IR paint, fast drying,...etc. Whit which I make a deals with companies.

Give up, is the first and last mistake which you can make. Many people give up to fast. If you really believe in what you do and you work hard,.... dont make a mistake and dont give up. Maybe it will not go on plan on fist time or second time,.... but if you will push and push really hard you will go to the finish. So,.... dont give up,.... push! 😉

I just lost my time watching this, I though you will explain the process

Esteban Coloma hello! You mix cigarette filters and acetone to make a binder. Experiment with quantity,... if you get binder like gel you add more acetone. And then add some conductive material like carbon black or graphite. More you add conductive material more will be conductive.
