Make a Transparent Conductive Glass

In the video "Make a Transparent Conductive Glass" I make a easy TO conductive glass from simple material and equipment which can repeat by everyone. The resistance of the first method is around 1k ohms and just with simple materials. Later in the video I also show the use of lab kiln and higher temperature on the same experiment. Higher temperature give me the resistance of the glass around 200 ohms and much better transparency.

nice work! do you know does stannous chloride maybe give it better conductivity?

HELLO I would like to tell you one thing that may be useful In the process of manufacturing glass, it is laminated on a molten tin broth, and this causes that on one of the 2 faces of the glass remains impregnated with that metallic tin, this is well known by the people who make vitro fusion, for that this layer interferes in the correct welding of the glasses, and they have a trick to recognize this layer, this feature may be useful in your idea, it may improve the adhesion or conductivity of the subsequent layers a greeting

if before priming the tin layers, you subject the glass to a slight abrasion, for example with toothpaste, to improve the adhesion

No need. Just clean the glass and you are ready to go. The SnO layer will stick to the glass surface like mad. I was not able to clean the layer of tin oxide in the beaker with soap, water and hard surface of cleaning sponge.

I think it's conductivity would benefit greatly from doping a few mole percent antimony

Yes,.... with adding antimony chloride,.... but, antimony chloride is really toxic 😱 and is hard to get for most of the people

@@cayrex Antimony metal can be bought at companies that sell lead and solder alloys (it's where I bought mine). From a few grains of antimony, it is easy to prepare chloride in tiny amounts. Tiny amounts is all you need to dope the tin. You can also dissolve a few grain antimony metal in molten tin, then prepare tin chloride, this is safer as antimony concentration is always low. Tin dioxide is a semiconductor, it's conductivity is not good without doping. Best dopant is indium but it is very expensive, however, you can buy 10g indium metal from china at okay price, after all, preparing these coatings uses miniscule amounts, so that 10g aught to allow you to make a lot of conductive glass! Funny, when my indium arrived it was marked Zn on customs form, but was definitely indium. I suppose somebody confused a Z for an I, lol.

Good job thank you. Maybe You should use hot solution(spray) to avoid breakage.(google translate)

I clicked thinking what can’t this guy make but then realised the glass is already made 😂 but what if you melted the tin oxide into molten glass? Would that be conductive through the whole glass?

That's what I plan to do. I'm also looking for someone else who's done that. I think I'll use stannous chloride instead of indium oxide as its less toxic.
