exactly. I've always felt that Lo-fi has become a little too Hi-fi these days

Yeah I agree. It’s still great study music. But I’ve found myself going back to one particular old school mix more recently: at cafe Lofi jazz hip hop mix. Full of great older Lofi tracks
Current Lo-fi sounds like 70s easy listening. It’s lost its hip hop roots and belongs in a dentist office.
I admire the classic lofi stuff mostly because I grew up listening to it back when it was blowing up in early 2017. I’ve been trying to recreate that sound since, with modern lofi, its nice, but something feels missing. I’ve listen to artists like eery, Elijah who, J’san, jinsang, Rook1e, burbank, etc. Aside from that, you did amazing demonstrating that sound and why it sounds beautiful!

Thanks! It’s always been my favorite style since I played a lot of jazz and ragtime piano before producing. I agree, this Lofi sound it much better. I listen to the At Cafe Lofi Jazz mix a lot when I’m at college

@@JordyChandra I agree. The older Lofi tracks have class. Probably because they’re either jazzy or sample jazz pieces

Dare I say 2010s lofi. To me it sounds more jazz than pop. Like something you'd find on an old jazz album, playing at a restaurant, or in a movie scene about a city. Modern lofi sounds like mid 2010s pop with less production.
great breakdown man, i myself have also been trying to make classic lofi from scratch, i know theres a place for it, modern lofi doesnt make me feel anything

People call chill hop songs Lofi now but Lofi used to be very distinct with off pitch melodies and off grid drums. Also a Lofi beat would usually have a long section without drums either in the intro or the middle.
I actually so vibe with this - the stuff you hear in lofi beats playlist has no discernible melody and doesn't really go anywhere. I know that this genre is meant to be sat into, but it kinda shocked me looking through it on spotify.
Thanks for sharing! Look forward to watching your videos
This is so good! Thanks for taking the time to distinguish between the different elements of classical lofi and modern lofi, instead of just lumping them all together
aight , after this i could go pro like Burbank
Amazing video dude! It really made me think about what I actually fell in love with in this genre; that calm, nostalgic and minimalistic production, which I agree has kind of dissapeared in the modern "lo-fi" och lets say Chill-beats scene. Lovely video! ^^
Man, you just changed my perspective on jazz samples, i didn't know we could create one by your own! I really thought that classic lofi hiphop are all Jazz Samples because it's hard to recreate one! Thank you for making this video! i'll probably make one of these on my next beat!

Glad to hear it! Yeah you can definitely make your own, it's also my prefered method because you don't have to deal with licenses or it not sounding how you want. But making them from scratch takes more time though. Plugins like Izotope Vinyl and RC20 really help as well! Best of luck with your new beats
Sounds great! 👊
Gonna keep that in mind :)
Classic is mellow:)
man i loved this! cant believe you only have a couple hundred subs

Thanks man. I'm getting there, also there will be more tutorials to come
well done bro =)
instrumental hip hop infiltrated lofi hip hop because it became a gold mine. ppl that can play piano just butchered the fuck out of the soul and vibe that sampled lofi brought, it sounds so robotic and perfect now.
Glad i stumbled to this video, the beat sounds good and your channel is cool.

nice video, i didn't realize the divergence in lofi styles over the last number of years, i am pretty new to the genre and trying to produce it.... but i like modern lofi tbh though, it's more chill and relaxing, and more fun and challenging to make. if i wanna listen to jazz, i'll listen to actual human players in a band. and i certainly am not a good enough pianist to play jazz properly lol
This is pretty cool, my guy. Your chord progression was very interesting. Been thinking about making my own vid about lofi. We should connect sometime.

I love the old skool LoFI that's why I decided to have a go at making some and your video sums up perfectly what I had suspected, genres grow and progress but some of the homoginification (my new word) isn't as much fun, though I do still like lofi in general, I love the older stuff, it's so random! Thanks for this video and you got a sub here! ;D Do you take suggestions for videos, as I'm learning I'm sure I can come up with a few ideas, have a great day!

@@Pixillious thank you so much 👍🏻 it would also be cool to see how you master your beats too if you are down with that but take your time
@Pixillious

@@notprosperBEATS sure! It’s actually very simple in Lofi. I only have a 20 Hz cut, a limiter, and compressor on the master channel. I’ll include that in the mixing video. As long as you have a good mix, you don’t need a crazy master chain 👍

In this old school style, would you just use two layers?
@Pixillious
Жыл бұрын
It depends on the sample you make or end up using. If it already fills out out the mix pretty well, then just high pass it and add some drums. Then then the track will have your sample, your drums, and whatever bass you want. If you’re making it completely from scratch, it should consist of a lead of some sort (usually a guitar lick or piano) this will fill the high end, a chord progression for the mids, a bass for the low end, and a drum groove

@@Pixillious cool thanks! I have been trying to do the study beats thing and I cannot stand it, so I am wanting to more or less go back to the basics with chords and melodies and sub bass
Classic lofi is better

I like both. I find the modern style is better for concentration though.
Lofi is suppose to be boring, chill or just plain shit to be vibe to. Modern lofi can't do that, it's getting more and more lively-ish.
@Pixillious

I wouldn’t say boring. Just relaxing. For studying or being creative, which is why it got popular. Seems to be straying away from that with time
