How to Make Chinese Secret Anti-Aging Soup, CiCi Li - Asian Home Cooking Recipes

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today we are lucky to have Mia of Asian Beauty Secrets to be on our show. And together we are going to make a sweet soup that’s going to beautify everyone. It will help to reduce age, uneven skin tone, and anti-aging effect.
3 wood ear mushrooms
10 red dates
1 tablespoon of goji berries
honey
Soak 3 white wood ear mushrooms in water overnight. Wash 10 red dates and 1 tablespoon of goji berries in cold water. Then in a pot, add 6 cups of water and the white wood ear mushrooms. Bring to a boil then turn to low heat and simmer for 40 minutes. Then add the red dates and simmer for another 20 minutes. Add the goji berries and cook for another 2 minutes. After the water is cooled down, add honey accordingly to your taste.

Ladies, thank you so much for this informative lesson. I will check out my Asian market so I can try to cook this. I love the idea of “balancing” everything. Your culture is so wise in connecting food with health. Thank you both. I am amazed that there are no other seasonings that go into this soup.

Hi Keith, I'm so glad that you like this video! Yes, traditional Chinese culture is very profound. I'm still learning it every day. I hope you'll find all the ingredients. Best wishes! :)

Used white fungus for the first time, and I love it! I added wonton broth, dried seaweed strips and the white fungus (both soaked and rinsed of course, and the white fungus trimmed), a bit of sliced veggies (green beans, carrots, onion, leek and chili pepperseeds), let it simmer for about 10 minutes and then at the end added wonton shrimps and let it simmer for another 3 minutes. Delicious!! I ate the whole pot in less than an hour, that's how good it is! Planning on making this daily, to help me loose a few pounds while still enjoying good food. :) Cheers.

Wood ear mushrooms can be found at the Asian store but its labeled as white fungus. I just bought some today at a Korean market and that's what it's called. You can make it as a salad mixed with seafood and veggies with sweet chili sauce and lime on it. Tastes delicious!

Hello, could you please tell me if it is ok to use dehydrated dates? And would you just cook the dried dates in the pot or rehydrate them first? I thought you would know since your mom made this. Thank you for answering my question, I appreciate it...

You have to soak the dried dates before cooking. My mom soak the dried date for an hour before cooking. You can do some experiments on the dried dates too 😊

I made this soup today. It’s alright. The flavour is subtle. The consistency reminds me of saliva, lol. It’s like a sweet saliva, lol. It almost made me gag a few times but after it sat awhile, it got cooler and it tasted better so I’m going to put the rest in the fridge and chill it. I’m still going to eat it because I made a huge pot and I don’t want it to go to waste, lol. I’m hoping the taste will grow on me, otherwise, whatever. I’ll keep eating it if I see any improvements in my beauty. Sometimes beauty is pain! 😂

I teach you more simple... get Koki or kochi 1/2 cup (just like red beads) & 15 dry dates wash 2 times soak them 20 minutes and boil them without honey it has natural sweet taste. You can add 1 bag Jasmine tea and boil take hot its relaxing and keeps your face skin smooth and makes you look young. You can eat kochi and the dates too.

  • @Diamond18116

If you like soup you can try 5 bags of Jasmine tea bag boil with half chicken and a small ginger boil them together. It is a pleasant light Chicken soup. You can add Kochi or do not add its okay. But if you care to look younger add a big tea soup of kochi boil together till the chicken is soft and tender.

I was very impressed with your video presentation and went to my local Oriental market and purchased exactly the same ingredients....soaked overnight, cleaned exactly the same and cooked according to your very clear directions. It must be a cultural things...being a Westerner, my taste buds for 79 years have developed from varying flavor profiles. I tried 3 times to eat this soup, but there was no taste and the texture was most difficult for me to digest. I had such high hopes as I suffer with inflammation. Good luck to all those who are able to ingest this.

  • @carinecampier

Meggie Meg Murphy, the texture is indeed peculiar but the taste can be adjusted. Have you tried incorporating a small quantity of cooked mushrooms into a smoothie or blending it into a hot chocolate ? It’s what I do with my daily teaspoon of turmeric + pepper (also anti-inflammatory) as I don’t like its flavour. I hope this message was helpful and finds you well and still trying to thrive on plants 🌱. Have a blessed day!

The Chinese lady is correct when she says White Wood Ear Mushroom in referring to Snow Fungus/White Fungus. It is not the most common name for it, but it is correct. Just like the most common name for Wood Ear Fungus is Black Fungus. The recipe is traditionally prepared with Chinese Rock Sugar; Chinese Rock Sugar is medicinal and commonplace in TCM for treating the lungs. The lungs have a powerful influence over the skin, so you can see the logic in its health being beneficial to maintaining the beauty of the skin.

Sorry, but looking for this mushroom on Amazon. It looked like the Cauliflower Mushroom that is being sold. Their wood ear mushroom looked black and white, which does not look like what you are using. Can you help clarify on this?

Not a good idea since sugar does not have any health benefits. Honey does, especially raw honey.

Suz N lol some people get confused. While in the west they’re called black fungus or snow fungus depending on their color, while in China specifically, they are known as wood ears when you take the direct translation from the character 木耳. It’s called wood ear because it’s shaped a little bit like a ear, and it grows on tree trunks and bark, making it known as “wood ear”

Snow fungus is also known by many names, such as white fungus, silver ear fungus, white wood ear fungus etc, so they're not wrong, but perhaps they could have been more specific in specifying the colour alongside as there also black fungus or black wood ear fungus avail in the markets. Anyway, the jujubes (red dates) can be boiled together from the very beginning but NOT the goji berries as goji berries are very tiny, which they will start splitting if boiled for too long.

Hi Suz, in Chinese, we generally call both the white and the black fungus mushrooms as 木耳(mu we). So the direct translation would be wood ear mushrooms. And in English, we also call the white fungus mushroom as snow fugus, snow ear, silver ear fungus, or white wood ear mushrooms. As to why I added the dried red dates and goji berries later. Here are my reasonings: if you add the dates and cook it for too long. The dates will have a sour taste. So it’s best not to cook them for more than 20 mins. As for the goqi berries, you barely need to cook them. If you cook them for too long, you will lose its nutrition.
