Chicken Fried Steak Ingredients
3/4 pound round steak, cut into 2 pieces
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs, well beaten
1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 sleeve Saltine crackers, crushed to make about 2 cups of crumbs
1/4 cup vegetable oil or bacon grease or a combination, for frying

    Country Fried: covered in batter, flour, or breadcrumbs and fried. I shall never, ever, stop calling it "Country Fried".

    Valerie Barnhurst I always save my bacon grease! It adds great flavor to so many things. I just used it today for fried Potatoes to go with my Biscuits & Gravy meal

    This is the first of this chick's videos I've ever watched. I'm liking her partially "I don't give a shit" attitude, or whatever she's got goin' on. It's pretty relaxing, not as in your face as other recipe videos. Also love the alternate names she uses for "hands".

    My mom from Oklahoma does it similarly with just a few differences. She does crush the crackers with a rolling pin and mixes them with the flour (just one dipping step then). She also season the meat with a little bit of garlic powder along with the salt. But yeah, its still very similar to what you do (and its awesome).

    Cute Apron Hilah! I love chicken fried stake. I will try your recipe. I have never used any corn flakes or saltines on mine just seasoned flower and bread crumbs is all. Have you made the pork chops in a brown paper bag in the oven before? Those are to die for too.

    This is exactly how I make my chicken fried steak, with one exception. I add worcestershire sauce to my egg mix. Thank you for posting! Everyone asks me how I make mine. Now I can send them this video!

    Wow!! Hilah, that looks great. I've had the deep fried style before, but the way your dad makes with the bacon grease and saltines looks delicious. I was at a truck stop one time where I had it for breakfast with eggs, fried mashed potato pattie and bisciuts. Wow! what a great breakfast. Thanks for the great recipe

    I questioned your dad, and your dad is right. I did the more common way of breading and your dad's way. he's way came out a lot better and tasted like what I would get from a restaurant.

    I'm going to try this! A different take on double dipping with just egg and flour. By the way, your cast iron looks excellent! How do you keep it that way? My kids keep leaving stuck on scrambled egg on mine and I always have to soak it and scrub it with a scour pad and it looks like crap on the bottom and lower edges.

    Been saving up bacon grease for about a month now in order to make this. So I just made it today. Also made gravy. Meal was delicious! It got a little sloppy putting it all together in the kitchen, but well worth it. Now if someone could come and wash the dishes would be perfect lol.. Great recipe Hilah! I already knew how to make gravy but did quite enjoy the song in that video about rolling the J.. My kinda chef! Thanks for great videos!!

    @Fancylooks I believe it is called chicken fried steak because it is coated and 'fried' similarly to how chicken is coated and fried.
