How to Make Buttercream Flowers

Making buttercream flowers elevate any dessert and making them is much easier than you think. The most important things to have are the right piping tips, buttercream that's the correct consistency and a little patience. So many people asked for a full step-by-step on piping roses and peonies so I hope you'll find this fideo helpful! I love using flowers like this to embellish cakes and cupcakes.
Some Hints for Getting a Nice Flower:
*Make a small batch of extra thick buttercream to make a cone-shaped base for the flowers.
*ALWAYS sift your sugar. Any lumps will clog your tip.
*Storing your flowers in the fridge will make them easier to handle when it's time to apply them to your cake/cupcake.
*Add food coloring a little at a time with a toothpick for maximum control.

John!!! You're incredible! I've never attempted piping flowers before, and I was very intimidated. But after watching a few of your videos, I felt inspired and capable, so I went ahead and tried it! I just made a birthday cake for my grandmother and it turned out BEAUTIFUL! It's a brown butter cake with buttercream frosting (your recipes of course!) and it's covered in buttercream roses! Thank you so much for being a wonderful and encouraging teacher!

I can’t even tell you how happy this video made me. Learning to make these flowers is one of my goals for 2020. Your videos are so easy to understand, and that encourages me to do this. Also, the short cry of a child in the background at one point makes you relatable. Even though my children are grown now, that just sounds like home. Thank you, for your videos. I’ll try not to eat too many of my mistakes. If I do, I’ll totally ruin my other 2020 goal of slimming down. 😊

I think you’re supposed to chill the flowers until they’re firm in the fridge then cut them off and transfer to the cake. Hopefully this helps 😊
