You know, when I first went to watch this I had been thinking on how well they could be adapted to make combat boots (long story, started with an olive drab fat quarter), but as I was watching, I realized the basic shape would work for many other types of lace-up boots and shoes as well. Off to the drawing board!

Thank you for this pattern and tutorial Lomi! I just wanted to let people know that if this pattern doesn't fit your dolls, there is a possible way that it can! Just print the pattern in smaller or bigger sizes until the "sole" piece is the same length as your doll's foot! For Feeple60, I used image at 76%, and for minifee, 66% (of original size). Now it fits! Lomi's patterns are just that awesome and versatile :D

Thank you so much, i was just about to go into the comments to ask how i could adapt it to my 27 cm male obitsu doll! Update: if people have trouble doing the math for scaling (i did, had to get my brother to do it), i printed the pattern at 46.655% and it's the perfect size for my 27cm male obitsu doll.

Wow, thanks so much for this. All my dolls are "rescues" from thrift stores and I use them in a stop motion animation video story line series (under a different channel name). Since they are rescues, they never come with shoes or much clothing, if any. I am good at crocheting and making their clothes. But I am not a shoe maker and struggle making shoes or any footwear for my dolls. I am going to give this a go and see how it turns out. Great work! And thanks so much for this video!

I had noticed flat boots are kind of uncommon! Which is part of why I had to make them myself. ^^;

Yes this is what i needed! Having a hard time finding some nice fantasy leather boots. An fabric glue is my prefered sewing supply xD. But i do not have a hole punch or eyelet tool... So i will wait/look forward to the tool list =)

The eyelets aren't really necessary if you're using a material that won't fray, they just add a bit of extra strength :) As for the hole punch, you could also get away with cutting very small slits with a blade!

The first few tries never turn out quite as well as we hope, but the important thing is that you keep going :D I don't have my first attempt anymore or I'd share a picture, I used the wrong kind of glue on the vinyl and they leached plasticizer and turned slimy and stuck to everything. It was so bad LOL

I've found car chamoix leathers to be a pretty useful source of soft, flexible leather both for boots and trousers.

How well does it dye? I think this would be great, but I don't think I've seen black or grey chamoix out there.

@@PhoenyxAshe As suede dye is primarily designed for shoes, it may make the suede a little more rigid, but as chamoix suede is very light and floppy, this may actually improve it as far as holding the shape of the shoe is concerned. Hope it all works out for you!

Just a tip for the leather on the sole...sand paper works really well to smooth out the edges so you don’t need to buy a tool.

Hi, do the crop a dile works for 1mm eyelets? Or what size are that u using?

Hello I made these boots and I had trouble in two areas: figuring the exact placement of the the sides when glueing and after putting the eyelets in they started falling out.

I made some with regular thickness shoe leather… I need a do over. 😂

Have you done a high heel? Down the road I'm going to need to make an extreme high heel boot for a male doll and could really use some ideas...I was thinking about maybe using poly clay to make the support of the bottom of the shoe whatever ends up on the sole that touches the floor and doll's foot. Good idea?

Yes, that should work. I've done a small heel but not super tall ones. Really though, the concept is no different when making a high heel. You'd just want to make the bottom edge of the shoe's upper angled so that the calf part of the boot would still be upright, and probably use a softer cardboard for the insole so that it can be flexed to fit the curve of a heeled sole. But otherwise, very much the same ^^

Would this also work on 1/4 scale dolls, too?

I need some thing like these but for heeled feet 🤔 I’ve seen something called worbla (not sure how it’s spelt) and I was thinking I could use it for the heel and sole and then make a pattern like yours to make over the knee lace up boots. I’m only in the planning stage 😅

Oh yeah, that should definitely work! You may need to trim the heel side of this pattern or pull the heel down farther so that the boots are still "upright" with a high heel, but that's the biggest difference!

Hey Lomi. I've been working on my own ooak bjd that i've been sculpting every weekend i can this year, and i was wondering if you have any advice on how to keep motivated. its a long process and i'm thinking of just trashing it and waiting to buy a professionally made one.

Keeping motivation is hard for every creative. A lot of it boils down to willpower, but there are a few things I try to keep in mind for myself that can help: 1. Breaking projects down into smaller tasks. "Make a doll" is a huge undertaking and it can sometimes feel like it's going nowhere because you're not closer to having the project done as a whole. Viewing it in smaller pieces can help a lot with keeping the momentum behind what you're working on, but it takes time to retrain yourself. I don't think "I'm going to write this book" anymore so much as "I'm going to write this scene"--not even a whole chapter on my mind! Once you have a general shape worked out, it's probably best to focus on one thing at a time. "This month, I'm going to finish legs" or "I'm going to complete a hand" is a lot easier to view without being overwhelmed. 2. Find people who encourage you. That can be other hobbyists or creatives, or even just friends and family members who are enthusiastic about what you do! Even when you feel really down and unmotivated about your work, I find just a few words of encouragement always helps. If you ever need encouragement to keep pushing forward on your work, you can always send me a message. I don't always see YT comments, but I try to check Instagram daily and I check my doll email ( Lomilmalinde at gmail ) a couple times a week. 3. Surround yourself with things you've done that you're proud of. They don't have to matter to anyone else, just you. I keep a board on my desk with photos of my favorite people, my book covers, and some of my favorite doll photos. Seeing it every day encourages me because I know I can put my next accomplishment on there, too. 4. Remember to be nice to yourself when things are slow, or don't go as well as you planned. This is really hard for me, and I'm constantly having to work to retrain myself after years of holding my self-expectations to unrealistic levels. We are human, not machines. Sometimes you won't be able to get to your projects. Sometimes you'll have dry spells where nothing turns out well. Sometimes you just won't feel like working on it, and all of those things are okay. The fact that you're actually taking steps to achieve one of your goals puts you leagues ahead of tons of people who never even have the courage to start. Everything we do is a huge learning experience and we'll have setbacks that teach us lessons along the way. Your doll will be a special creation, your own creative fingerprint, and it'll have a place in your heart that nothing else can rival. Even if it takes ages to complete it, you started it for a reason, you believed you could do it, and giving yourself time and patience to complete it is the least you can do for yourself :) Granting yourself grace when you're discouraged is incredibly hard. I deal with that almost every day! The one thing that means the most to me is the book series my doll characters are from, but I've been working on it now for 18 years and right now, I still don't have anything to show for it. That could be discouraging to some, but for me, it just means that it's important enough to keep going after all this time because of how much it means to me and how much space it holds in my heart. In the end, ANYTHING you pour your heart into is worth the wait. ❤️

It is still there! It should be the Fantasy Boots pattern in the Iplehouse nYID section. My pattern directory has gotten difficult to navigate over the years--I never expected I'd end up having over 100 patterns available. I'm in the process of developing a new version that will be easier to navigate, but it's still a week or two off from being finished!

They are designed for any doll that has a foot 7.5cm long or a little less. If your doll's foot is larger it will be too tight, but otherwise yes :)

Made these out of leather for my Smartdoll. They're a bit scruffy since, yknow, leather hard, and since her feet are a bit smaller than what this pattern was designed for, BUT I think they look nice nonetheless

It is a little weird, isn't it? 😂 I actually have no idea how old it is--it could be 50 years or more. My dad found it in a bag in my great uncle's attic while we were cleaning out his estate. My uncle was fond of the "use every part" methodology with his hunting, so when he had his deer butchered he always had the hides tanned and got them made into coats and jackets for himself :) My parents thought it would be wasteful to throw it away, especially since there were lots of pieces in different weights and thicknesses and it was all in good condition, so they gave it to me to see what I could do with it. I hope my doll crafts do him honor.
