For the people missing Terrain Tools: You have to go to the advanced settings on the Package Manager (under Project Settings, or clicking on the Cog on the Package Manager window -> Advanced Project Settings), and enable "Preview Packages". Apparently the tools is still on development or something. It works, tho.

20 seconds into the tutorial and I just want to say: I appreciate that you actually list out all the things needed before we even begin, and that you showed the specific items you used! Thank you. So many tutorials get half way in and say "go grab a ___" and you have to scramble to find something that matches to follow along.

@@thesithofearth3617 Its not on the store but rather in the package manager. You can find the Package Manager in the window tab. Search for terrain tools there and you should be able to download it.

No mid video promotion, explaining things in a easy to understand way, straight to the point, listing everything needed at the beginning of video, and responding to a lot of comments. This is possibly the best tutorial I’ve ever seen. Thank you, it really helped. Keep it up.

Can you tell me why i cant use Hotkeys, ASD => i added all Assets and have same brushes. I made terrain but i cant use Hotkeys A S D.... i cli k on A (hold it) and then move the mouse nothing happens or click on Left or right click and it just create terrain. How to use the hotkey? HOLD with shift? Strg? Alt ? which combo ?

I thought game development needs extreme art mastery, that's why I didn't focus much to learn it (cause I hate drawing/painting), but then I saw this and knew that there are trees and grasses that are ready to use for game designing. Thanks a lot 😊

for those having trouble with grass gap: Goto terrain setting: -set "Detail Resolution" to 4000 (more is better). -set "Detail Resolution Per Patch" to 20 (less is better).

The fact that you did this in 15 minutes is impressive than the other developers because they were so lazy to make the graphics look great, they just want to make it that looks like a mobile/Ps2 game. You deserve to be an excellent game designer 👏

For real. You can then do more advanced things like NavMeshes on the grey path parts and have NPC models walk along, etc. Maybe paint a road and put cars down. Doesn't take that long in the grand scheme of things to get a believable, living world built.

Importing heightmaps etc. can be a pain in the butt. This is so much kinder and gentler for just getting started.

This was an awesome tutorial. I'm a web developer, who kind of getting bored and decided to learn how to make games. So I'm learning segments of what I need to do. This tutorial not only help me understand how to use the application, but to properly edit my terrains and make nice design concepts. THANK YOU @UGuruz

First of all, I really like your description, it is an easy and nice tutorial. However, I'm gonna say that it would be easier if you place the grasses before trees, because it is really hard to see empty places when trees are placed. Thanks for the video!

Great tutorial, thanks! Quick question, using only the (awesome) assets you listed, there is an option to easily adjust the wind setting for grass and plants, which work well but have no effect on the trees. Can you point out where to find those pls? The scene does not look natural with the ground assets moving but the trees remain dead still :D

For those who Terrain tools doesn't appear, just download and import the terrain tools asset sample pack. I did that and after like 5-7 minutes my new brushes appeared. Maybe even restart Unity.

If anyone doesn't know what it does, it just reduces the lighting graphics for the terrain so your PC doesn't lag.

Someone needs to make a tutorial on how to make dense forests that don't destroy your fps. These trees are so spread out and wouldn't hide any points of interest that you would build around the terrain.

Reduce draw distance, use fog, LOD's, Occlusion culling, etc. His terrain is just really flat which is why it looks plain. Instead of also perfectly spacing out the trees. Have more dense and less dense areas. You also need to be aware that optimization and clever planning will be most of your time. Not really a tutorial that can be made as it would take too long but just study other games terrain

Probably too late of a reply, but for anyone else who needs it, the version with the stroke section and tools such as the hotkeys requires the Terrain Tools found under package manager, instead of the one from the asset store. To see it, click the cog in the top right of package manager and click to enable Preview Packages. Then, search Terrain Tools in the package manager search bar and install from there
