Apricot Liqueur Recipe (1st Try)
3/4 cup Fresh Apricots
3/4 cup Dried Apricots
1.5 cups Vodka
1/4 cup Simple Syrup
I wasn't happy with this version to I decided to modify it and increase the apricot flavor.
Apricot Brandy Liqueur Recipe (2nd Try)
3/4 cup Fresh Apricots
3/4 cup Dried Apricots
3/4 cup Vodka
3/4 cup Brandy
1/2 cup Clarified Apricot Syrup
This is much more flavorful! The apricot flavor is much more pronounced and the brandy gives it more depth. Next time, I might go full 1.5 cups brandy and leave out the vodka completely.
Clarified Apricot Syrup
1 cup Water
1.5 cups Sugar
1 cup Dried Apricots

Great recipe and cocktail. Your version is very similar to how I made my spiced pear liqueur (again something we can't get). Infused brandy and vodka. One thing I do is I use the spent fruit and boil it with the sugar and water to extract ALL the flavours and then eat it on ice cream (soooo good). PS look for Palinka for fruit brandy in the LCBO

Fabulous recipe Rob!! Hey have you ever considered trying to put a book together with your infusions and syrups?!! I see a niche publishing interest for these kinds of books!! Give it some thought. You are very creative with what you make for use in amazing cocktails!! :-) I have never used Vodkow. What's it like? I never understand vodka in cocktails due to lack of flavour. The "clarified" syrup looks so amazing!! Your apricot gin fizz looks so delicious!! I want one!! The brandy infused syrup with apricots sounds mindblowingly spectacular!! This is a terrific video!!

Thanks! It’s definitely something I am considering! Vodkow is a nice vodka, I’m not a huge fan of neutral spirits but it’s nice to have around to when you need it… and this one is from Almonte Ontario, not far from me so I like to support local businesses

Very cool episode! When you run the syrup through the coffee filter, what kind of effect does it have on the taste?

  • @RobsHomeBar

    @RobsHomeBar

    2 жыл бұрын

When you clarify the syrup, it surprisingly doesn’t loose too much flavor (it obviously looses some) and it becomes thinner consistency. I wouldn’t bother if making a syrup for cocktails…. But for liqueurs, having less sediment in your bottle will reduce the chance of mold and extend the shelf life

I've been curious about making my own apricot brandy, as our family, with the help of an Italian neighbor, turned overripe apricots into brandy in their basement during the prohibition era in Niles, a town NW of Chicago. Needless to say the local police showed up unexpectedly, not to arrest anyone but to consume the brandy down in the basement! The method was the time honored fermentation followed by distillation using copper wash kettles as the cookers, I'm sure your product is much better! Thanks for the beautifully produced video on your homemade method, if I get a good crop of plums I will try a similar process, a sweet plum liquor could be delicious in the near future 🥃 🍑.

Difficult to say since it’s my first time making it but I’m hoping for several months at least. My other liqueurs have lasted 6 months + easily but this is one of the first with fresh fruit. Using a good proof spirit and clarifying the syrup should help.

Don’t know what happens but my 1 1/2 cup of brandy gave me 150ml of liquor. Guess the dried apricot drank all the spirit. I squeezed it through nutmilk bag and could not clarified it proprely. The syrup is good and i have a lot left…
