This was the first time I ever worked in After Effects and it was easy to follow all the given steps. This guy knows how to share knowledge. Made myself 3 different animated travel maps including extra photos popping up on the in-between destinations. Thanks a million, Octopus .. you got yourself a new fan !

If you guys are having issues with the red dot not showing after turning on 3d, change your renderer from Cinema 4D to Classic 3D. This worked for me. Took me till the next day to finally figure it out.

I needed this animation for a late-spring snowboarding GoPro video to make it awesome... it took me a couple tries following your instructions in slow-mo and repeating certain steps until I finally "got it", but I eventually did... and it was so worth the effort. okay questions... A) the second I make them 3d layers, i lose my "travel path"... i am forced to move my map layer back 1 pixel in Z space to let the path show up again... why? B) same thing with the ellipse outlines (the fill shows up, the stroke disappears when i make things 3d.)? C) every tutorial i've watched on making "map plans" seems to work for the creator without this issue, but I get this issue every time no matter how much I try to follow the step by step instructions... What am I missing?

Which AE version do you use? Sometimes when you switch everything to 3d, the layer below is prioritized to display, if this situation you have to change the order of the layers so that it displays as you want.

@@tatthanh_vu Cơ bản là ok rồi đó bạn. Có điều do bạn không chỉnh góc nghiêng của camera nên các tấm biển hiện ra không có cảm giác đứng mà thấy nó nằm trên mặt bản đồ. Nếu bạn chỉnh cho nghiêng cái Null layer điều khiển Cam thì nhìn nó có cảm giác thực tế hơn.

Need to ease that signpost and make it bounce... go slightly oversize then shrink back to "normal", then hit the graph editor to give the movement more punch

The only thing I don't understand is when you add the picture, ba na.jpg, how do I track it with the original red dot thingy, but if I changed the scale of the jpg also the red dot changes in size :-( so a lot of puzzling there, but thanks for the great tutorial. new sub!

Sorry for the late reply. I think maybe you accidentally linked (in the Parent & Link section) the red dots with the Composition that contained the image. If you still can't solve it, you can take a picture and send it to me

In the video I do it so fast you may not notice. At 7:14 click on the pen icon then choose Convert Vertex Tool. Then you select the corner, it will become a rounded corner and lines to adjust

One question: At 7:52 you're changing the orientation. When I do the same in my after effects CC 2019 and when I change the numbers at the orientation the map doesn't move only the graphic of the camera control which is shown. Does anyone know how to solve that?? Thanks!

Hello. Great tutorial. Thank you because it is very useful but I have a question. Mine version is 2015 and it seems that I do not have possibility to parent link between just Positions of elements (you do it at 10:50). Am I doing something wrong or maybe there is some other solution for that to do it in lower version?

Have been able to track camera but the issue is that when positioning cam control, the image gets huge dark backgrounds since moving near extremities of image. Why is that so? Should I use a larger image? Trying to make path from London to Manchester in one single image capture from maps. Looking forward for a quick reply!

You will have to use a map image that is much larger than the size of the Comp. In this tutorial, my Composition size is 1920x1080, so my map size is 3000x2250. You can get large maps with software that supports taking photos on Google Maps (Mappuzzle for example)

I didn't get it on Google maps because I accidentally got it for a long time. However, without it, I would definitely have to get it on google maps. There are several software for taking large sizes on google maps (for example, mappuzzle)
