+Whiskey Wood Creations Thanks Scott!
Just built this last week. Actually puts out a lot of heat, and if a breeze is blowing, the heat will head in that direction. Had people moving to or away from heat depending on what they preferred! Very relaxing watching the flames dance and flicker. I also used wood for base. DIYPete is correct in protecting from fire danger but the correct type of wood and plenty of space underneath to keep pan cool.This is not wood fired, so no sparks or embers to deal with. Thank again DIYPete.

bjørnar magnussen yes i was kind of familiar with the principal i have friends from Iceland but i wasn't totally sure i thought the last name changed with every father lol in retrospect that does seem kind of crazy how could that work. thats cool so you are kind of a viking awesome. i myself have Scandinavian roots somewhere in my lineage i find it very cool. thanks for the informative conversation sir

cj c Well that is how it worked back then. So my son would be named Bjørnarson for example. Would be cool to have that today, but that would be confusing like you say :)

Hey Todd, concrete consists of aggregate and cement mixed with water. This concrete mix consists of pea gravel, sand, and cement. Cheers

The smooth concrete look was created by the vibrating of the concrete. Notice how he vibrated as he poured. That is very important.

I think i will actually use this method to create mine, however i am forgoing the concrete base for one with a wood construction so i can house the tank underneath. I was trying to find something to use for a table top, and until now was considering tile. Also, as a tip to anyone else doing this, you can create different effects in your concrete by adding colored sand to your mix.

Hey Pete, I am a Boy Scout in Birmingham, Alabama & I want to use your fireplace project as my Eagle Scout Project for a local non-profit nursing home/assisted living facility. Do you have any suggestions about "covering" the base with a stone facade? Would using a different type of base (instead of poured cement) be better if I am planning on covering with stones that will match an existing retaining wall that surrounds the outside area. And have you found any good looking covers for this, the location it's going is not covered & is surrounded by large trees. I am hoping to make it easy to clean/maintain for the seniors. Thanks. Jack
Great vid! What is the correct name for the fire pan? Having trouble finding it, or maybe it has a different name over here in the uk?

Hi El! Thanks so much! I have the links to the items here: www.diypete.com/how-to-make-an-outdoor-gas-fireplace/ They call it a drop in fire pit pan or fire pit insert usually around here. Here is the Amazon link: amzn.to/2Ad93qW or the website is www.americanfireglass.com --- I'm sure you have some manufacturers in the UK that would have them too. Cheers

I love the video and the results! How does water escape from the main cabinet area? I assume some will leak into there between the table and burner.
@DIYPETE

Thanks honestly not much water gets down there, if it rains though, the burner pan has drain holes. There is a deck underneath, so any water just goes between the cracks in the deck boards.
