How To Make An IPA Panel Wipe For Car Detailing
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
How To Make An IPA Panel Wipe For Car Detailing. An IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) mix is a solution used by detailers to clean the paintwork after paint correction, to remove polishing oils and residue. This will help to promote a better bond between your ceramic coating or wax to the car’s paint.
An IPA solution can also be used to remove older waxes and sealants or it ca be used for degreasing surfaces. In this video, I will show you a simple way to save money and make your own homemade IPA solution!

Cool video Pan and I really appreciate the video. I remember a while back I was watching a Meguiars webinar and they were talking about M122. The comment which caught my attention was some IPA wipes can cause the metal to swell. I think you touched on this when you were talking about IPA dilution ratios. A subject I am studying is clear coat. The term paint correction seems to be universal but we are not correcting the paint on modern cars. All we are doing is making smaller scratches in the clear coat and calling it paint correction or enhancement. I would love to hear your knowledge behind the chemistry of clear coat and how the science behind soft and hart paint. Thank you for the video.

Truely love this, sharing with the detailing community is something we should all do! :) I have something as a APC actually... All you need is natural vinegar, baking soda, glycerine, hemp oil or soy oil and water , use some etheric oils for the scent. You can easily find your own solution while experimenting with these ingrediënts and come out with a pretty good and selfmade APC ;-) Then again, I mostly used to use these for example on truckbeds etc or the back of dirty vans. Don't use this on the interior, mainly because of the oils in it. But it's always fun to experiment with such things ofcourse :) works great for housecleaning aswell fe. Haven't found a decent recipe for the interiors yet.

Is the ratio 7:1? I’ve been using stoners. When defrosting my own windshield when there is a temperature difference the glass fogs. When it fogs I can see streaks, the glass looks crystal clear clean and streak free until fog forms on the inside of the glass. Figured i need to implement this into my new business and personal car maintenance routine and follow up with stoners. I just want my services to be premium for my clients. I take pride in my work I strive to be the best I can be. I really appreciate this video boss man, wishing you much more success in this new year!
Yes Pan, what another great video...I was on training for the week hence I'm commenting now...do you think it's possible that you can make a video on how to make a detail spray with raw material instead of a using a rinseless wash and a decon spray (iron remover)💣💥
@PanTheOrganizer
2 жыл бұрын
I'm confused. You want a spray that is a rinseless wash and iron remover combined? That doesn't exist to my knowledge. And it would be too complicated to formulate a DIY iron remover and cleaner with TGA active ingredient.
Great tip on the home made panel wipe. Thank You. (UK)

Hey Pan... Epic content. These videos are like going Detailing University. I often wonder what the difference is between the higher end IPA's 🤔 Been using Gyeon Prep for years now... Blessings from USA 🇺🇸 GGG 😎

Prep products aren't just IPA, some don't even use IPA and instead use other solvents. They also have lubricants. An IPA doesn't clean as well as Jon's videos suggest.
thanks for the great video..keep it up

This is great, thanks. The DIY detail guy said no IPA, I'm not sure if he was saying that because of user error regarding dilution or if it's a more substantial difference of opinion.
Great information pal

Hi Pan, love your video and learn alot. Is there any alternative beside distilled water, It difficult to find distilled water in my country. Can I use battery water to dilute isopropyl.
Hey Pan great info as always. My new suv has a dealership applied armor coat and I want to apply a ceramic coat in the near future. Can I just apply over the existing armor coat or do I need to take it off prior to applying?
@PanTheOrganizer
2 жыл бұрын
You would need to fully strip the previous coating, which means heavy machine polishing. It's the only way to ensure 100% removal of a previous coating. A ceramic coating needs to bond directly to a virgin clear coat.
Hey 👋 Pan I love watching your videos and you have very awesome information and details about different things and products. I was wondering if you mind helping me to make the IPA in larger bulk quantities like in 5 gallons mix and with the added arrives like soaps and degreaser. Thanks 🙏

Thanks Pan for this tutorial. I am already using a DIY IPA mix at the same dilution ratio as you mentioned, and it definitely saves a lot of money! Do you have any tips on removing very old and stuck on break dust? Any tips on using acid based cleaners? I'm a bit worried I will use acid based cleaners wrongly, would love to hear your tips and best ways to use such strong cleaners. (My wheels are oem clear coated alloy wheels on a 2012 e class Mercedes). Thanks again!

If you are talking about wheels that are heavily caked with brake dust you would first clean them using a good shampoo with iron removing capabilities like this one: bit.ly/3mPJ6F0 Then use a dedicated iron remover for a heavier iron removing round with something like this: bit.ly/3xSrChE And then, use a slightly acidic wheel cleaner to remove what ever is left of caked on brake dust. This is my favourite: bit.ly/3MVNDjS It will not damage clear coated wheels. Just rinse thoroughly after use, and don't let it dry (don't work in direct sunlight).

@@PanTheOrganizer Thanks so much Pan! I've done the first two steps already. Is it possible to clean use the iron remover (purple reaction) till there is no reaction? As when I use them every time I still get the reaction. In the mean time I'll try to find the acid wheel cleaner in HK. I don't really see any in this category here locally. Thanks a million!
Great video and how to.

Love the new video pan! Question for you, I tipically use the orange country pad and tw hybrid solutions polish compound every spring since I started detailing. I always still have some light swirl marks and decided that it was time to do a full compound stage and full polish stage and put a ceramic coating on. Only I'm starting to get worried about the thickness of my clear coat. I have used that pad and polish combo about 3 years now with two coats each time. So all and all I have buffed the paint 6 times since taking ownership of the vehicle. Do you think using an aggressive compound like clear-cut or ultracut followed by a polish like reflect or essence by carpro is to damaging to my clearcoat at this point?
@MasrSR

Honestly I know it's kinda a niche thing but i would get a clear coat tester or at least a paint tester to see the thickness of your paint and that should give you a good idea !
@MaxPlass
2 жыл бұрын
If the vehicle was relatively new when you bought it, Im pretty confident you would be fine, but if it's and older car I'd just stay safe and get a paint thickness gauge
Thanks Pan. I've done the exact same thing, right down to the Great Value distilled water, LOL. I keep seeing videos from others only describing 91% maximum Isopropyl Alcohol, wonder if the 99% concentration is a Canada only thing?🤔 Anyway, helpful video, thanks so much!

Hi Pan what do you do with new foam pads ? Do you prime them? Or just put your 3 to 4 pea size drops on.
Pan, awesome as usual. Do you have any recommendations for high quality detailers as yourself in the states? Lookin’ for one in Denver Colorado. Thanks, Jan

Hey Pan if you see this comment you should look up Diamond clear from Paint pros. I've been making good money using it. Alot of detailers hate the product before even trying it but I'm making a living with it. It Might become bigger in the future

Thanks Pan, excellent advice as always. My question is an area that you touched base on regarding staying in the same ecosystem if you will. So if using DiY coatings for example is it critical or even required to use their panel prep or would the homemade IPA do just fine in most scenarios? Thank you as always, so helpful

There's always a debate on that topic, but in general, it's recommended to use the same panel prep brand as the coating you are applying. Yvan himself recommends this (DIY Detail). Just to be safe with chemical compatibility.
