Now I really regret not upgrading the NVME and the HDD of my Fusion Drive… I can open my iMac again, it is not that hard but it takes a lot of time, so maybe I’ll try using an external drive. I have 2 questions. Is the boot time any better compared to the Fusion Drive? And, if you deactivate the sleep mode, does it also freezes?

  • @JTechWP

The NVME external drive is way faster than the Fusion drive, boot time is about 4 times quicker with NVME, software loads faster too. I let the screen go to sleep but not the drive. Getting a Mac Studio soon with HDR monitor, be selling the iMac this year.

I realize yours has better port as I believe the Thunderbolt 3 port came out in 2015 and so you would have that connection. My specs are four USB 3.0 ports, dual Thunderbolt ports. This means I only have Thunderbolt 1 at 10Gbps. I also do need to have that 3TB of space so I would want to know if you think i can do this would I need to use 2 different HDs (one larger HDD drive and a 1TB SSD) or would you just use 1 larger 3-4TB SSD? If you say yes to all of this. I am not sure how to fully do what you did in this video. Meaning I am not sure if you showed the basics of how to install the Apple OS Operating system onto the external drive. Your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

It looks like it was one time story that it was super warm. I'm observing enclosure all day and it's much cooler . I have Silver Monkey enclosure with termo strip and radiator. There was no instruction how to assemble all together, it doesn't exist on producer web side, but somehow I figure it out. There is no problem with waking up after sleeping mode. So out of Samsung EVO 970 with 3400 and 2500mb/s + enclosure 10gb/s I have around 930mb/s for read and write.
