Came here to type that. How is it magic when it's just cinema work used in movies. I'd rather suspend disbelief on something with an actual plot (a movie) than something that even I could do with enough resources that does not involve any skill.

This is probably the worst trick ever. I have an improvement suggestion without the those silly sheets. Just stop the camera at a fixed position, bring in the elephant and then restart the recording. It will look like it appeared from nowhere.

So this trick was done EXACTLY as EVERYONE thought... Wow... Amazing...

when you really break it down, yeah its exactly how we thought. the problem is, we actually believe what they tell us. knowing that they just lie to our faces kinda ruins the magic of the magic. "these cards are all different" (no theyre not) "random spectators" (briefed about trick and are all in on it).

This trick is much easier when you do a precision air drop with the elephant wearing an extra large parachute. The hardest part is teaching him to pull the cord.

What did you with the elephant after? And how did you get it from your house or flat in the second floor? How do you feed it? I mean, they like lots of fruits. Do you go to the next Shopping Center or fruitmarket? Did your waterbill rise a little Bit? What do you do for the elephant's entertainment? Must the elephant wear a mask?

Same. I remember this was first on ITV4 here in the UK when I was about ten, and whenever I got home from primary school, I'd watch this, just before dinner. I've always wanted them to try another season at some point. They did the four specials in the 1990s, the one in 2002 and the 2008 series, why not another series?

When I was a kid, David Copperfield impressed me when he did something similar in reverse, making a plane appear out of nowhere, in spite of lots of witnesses surrounding it. His show was extra deceptive, because they later did interviews with the seemingly completely shocked people who claimed they had no idea what happened and blatantly lied to the viewers, while in fact they were in on the trick...

I remember seeing that trick with the airplane. I couldn't figure out how he did it. Then, years later, I was told how he did it. It was exactly the same way this guy made the elephant appear out of "nowhere". I then thought it was really lame to have everyone in on the trick and pretending to be surprised.

I remember when i was 10 years old, David Copperfield was on a world tour and came to my country Vietnam. My family won a lucky draw contest and was given 5 tickets. One of his illusions requires audience participation and so he came down and pick "random" audience members. The problem is, all the people he picked are all either white or black. No asians and we are in an asian country. I was thinking right there and then, either David is racist, or the audience he picked are all actors. Then i realised all of his tricks are all fake....

Elephant must be thinking does all these spectators have short term memory? They've seen me walked into the cover yet still got excited when the cover went down.

Ah, the classic magic trick of "You don't see an elephant right? Now close your eyes for 2 minutes and when you open them, I will have an elephant magically appear!"

This episode blew my mind as a kid.

first thing you need to know; everybody is in on the trick... WAUW, this is some stunning magic !!

This was such a great tv series in the early 2000s

Instructions unclear, a hippopotamus appeared instead. The spectators are no more..

It makes sense that the witnesses were in on the trick too. I've been chosen as a volunteer from a magician. He asked me to grab change out of my pocket and count it. The magician, from the stage, asked me to hold my hand up in the air with a closed fist and he will figure how much I have. A lady came up to me and asked how much I had in my hand. Thinking that she was just curious, I told her how much. About a minute later he tells me the correct amount. Thinking back, it was most likely that that lady was assisting the magician this whole time via a radio headset that he and she were wearing.

The trainer is talking to the elephant and pointing like look there’s the camera.

I figured most of these tricks out before this show aired. Audience participation is always a thing when there are large numbers of "volunteer witnesses".

So I devised a magic trick, where I use motion tracking software and some content aware fill to make the elephant appear from no where. You see, I paid the software to hide the elephant for me. I always knew I was a magician.

I love this show. It reminds us how tedious magic is.

What no one told you: The elephant is a trained actor. He's in on the trick.

The only one who could really do this with pure magic was Houdini

You can do similar variations on this sort of trick with the camera. During a "360 degree" viewing from a camera, we will never see behind the camera so as long as whatever is to move does so behind the camera you will never see anything. Same thing will across the sides of the camera, no camera ever gives a "full complete view". Just what you want it to see.

When I first saw this on tv year's ago it was my favorite part and still is.

This is why i love magic it looks impossible but in reality its just slight of hand, maybe if its recorded it would be camera angles, timing, distractions and props can make one astonishing and amazing trick. Also the reactions from people when you do it perfect is just AMAZING!

I saw a trailer for this one when I was young. Never got to actually see it. Interested to see how it finally turns out.

When I did it, I did make elephants appear out of thin air. I had to stop after a local homeowners association started complaining about the dozens of abandoned elephants wandering the neighborhood.

Lmao the witnesses way of walking and movement made it obvious theyre part of the act

I was never amazed when a magician does magic tricks for a tv show with spectators because it's pretty obvious that they are in on it...it's better to go watch a Magic show live.

You can tell the exact moment they cut into the second scene, it's where the camera stays still making it easy for the actors to get into the same position

I would do it. I once got called on stage at a Harry Blackstone Jr. magic show, and from where I was standing, I could see how he did the trick. During the trick he quietly told me, "Don't tell anyone." and I never did. The point is, it's easy for a magician to get people to help just by asking.

It would have been funny if the elephant left a dung trail all the way back to the fake trees. Also, at 1:04, you can see a gap below the fake trees, showing the parking lot surface. Flaw.

This is not a magic trick when there is no witness. if so, then you can simply cut the video and make objects appear or disappear. and edit the video in such a way that no jump is sensible in the film.
