How to make an Animated GIF in Photoshop
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Many assume the way to pronounce GIF is with a hard G sound because G is for Graphic. The inventor of the file format requested it be pronounced with a soft G so the it sounds like the peanut butter (Jif). Please don’t correct me on my pronunciation as I will simply remove your comment.

In just five minutes you can easily make an animated GIF in Adobe Photoshop.
You can then share by attaching the GIF to emails, post to websites or social media sites such as Tumblr You can even copy the Image URL and paste to your status in Facebook.

The creators of the format pronounced the word as "jif" with a soft "G" /dʒɪf/ as in "gym". Steve Wilhite says that the intended pronunciation deliberately echoes the American peanut butter brand Jif, and CompuServe employees would often say "Choosy developers choose GIF", spoofing this brand's television commercials.

Think I need a new Jrahpics Card for this
Just to add a piece of helpful advice!! When I first tried this I couldn't figure out how to get the timeline display, and it wasn't mentioned in this video but all you have to do is go to Window (in the top toolbar near View and Help) --> Workspace --> Motion. Then the timeline bar should appear at the bottom

This is one of the best and quick video about how to create an animated gif and I found it very helpful. Thank you Mark
the most straight forward and most comprehensive explanation, thank you!!
Thank you! You are the most effective tutor amongst all the photoshop experts here in KZread.
everything i learned about Ps was from youtube tutorials. this was by far the most succinct, informative, and direct tutorial i have ever seen. Mark Galer is awesome. thank you.
Finally, a great tutorial with clear explanations, easy to follow, and brief! Thanks
Mark, you are a great tutor. I bought my A7ii partly based on your incredible content. Thanks! If only Panasonic had a Mark Galer for the G9...
Very nicely explained. A clearly step by step tutorial. Thank you!
Excellent instructional video. You walk through the steps beautifully. Thank you for giving me just the instruction I needed, without a bunch of clutter.
Concise, to the point, combined with very useful content; just the way we like it. Thanks Mark.!
Thank You - Had to learn this in a few hours. I've done animation for years (no conceptual problems, in other words), but every explanation of the photoshop tools that I saw before I came across your video were either needlessly complicated and poorly described or else just obtuse. Yours is perfectly clear and short - I really appreciate you taking the time to make it and wish I had come across it first!

This was the perfect explanation. Very helpful.

Thank you for this tutorial! Finally helped me create a GIF exactly how I wanted. I had to align my pictures automatically because I was moving a bit taking those pictures. But now I am not sure how to crop the excess of the image. I tried using the crop tool but that only worked for one image at a time. Any advice please?
This was soooo helpful. Just made my first ever gif! God bless you Mark!

Hi Mark, just want to say thanks for making this great video
This was a wonderful and easy video to comprehend. Very grateful :D
This is by far the best tutorial on youtube. I only had to watch it once even though I have just begun learning Ps.....
I followed your tutorial good...but my Photoshop won't show the makeframes from layers. I cannot create gifs.
This is an awesome tutorial! Thank you for making this^^! Very helpful!
I'm not seeing anywhere to control the speed. In the PSD preview it's nice and slow. When I go to export it's way too fast. Thoughts?
This is fantastic because I always pronounced it as JIF and just today my boyfriend was telling me I was wrong and I was like meh I like the sound and NOW I KNOW I WAS RIGHT! Thank you!

The guy who made this video & or who is narrating it, is saying the letter G improperly. Obviously. He doesn't know you pronounce the letter G as in Glad or the word "Gift" without the letter T at the end of the word. He doesn't know & or realize it's not pronounced like the letter J. I know, I know.... Potato, Potoddo, .... Tomato, Tomotto.

@@TommyFarrell69 Mind your own fuckin' business, Tommy. Unless you are in bed with Cam. Besides, if the real word is "GIF" then the word being made fun of is spelled "JIF". Unless the changed the spelling from "GIF" to "Giff" now.
awesome tutorial! also interesting, one of my first graphic design professors went to college with the inventor of the gif format and according to him there is no right or wrong way to say it
Hi! Is there a small function button, that crops a bit the image, based on the focus? Someone told me there is this trick, for photos that are not done with a tripod, so there is a small camera motion mainly a bit to the right, or a bit to the left, or a bit to high. SO the gif looks...not that good. But is somehow, photoshop could sense this difference, and crop a bit, it think it will solve the problem. But I do not know if there is such a thing...
Thanks for the excellent short tutorial. Told me just what I wanted to know. BTW I also say GIF with a hard G.
Having trouble with this, after I’ve saved it to my desktop. After dropping the Gif to the web browser, it takes me back to my photoshop app. Any help is much appreciated
THANKS!! Adobe seems to move all the controls around with every update and I cannot remember how to do the Jif ;-) stuff anyway. SOOOOOO Mark THANKS!!! Got me back on track
That was comprehensive and short. Nice!

Thank you so much. I used to make gifs all the time during tumblr's popularity and forgot everything. I've also seen gifs that have a static frame background and the gif is inside that static frame, so essentially it's a graphic inside a graphic - if that makes sense? I wouldn't imagine it's any different, but that's what I'm trying to do for one of my clients.
I sometimes have an animation with 40-50 frames. The jpgs are numbered in order that I need them to play. When I do load file from stack they show up in order. When I select create frame animation and then make frames from layers, everything is loaded backwards and i have to drag each frame to put it in order. Is there a quick fix after you load the frames to reverse the order?
Very helpful and easy to follow. Thank you
Very helpful, I really needed this! Thank you.

Is there a way to stabilize the end product like in premiere pro (warp stabilizer)? Using this method I'll need to export the GIF, convert to video format, stabilize the video, then convert it back to GIF.
