In this tutorial, I demonstrate how to create an animated GIF in Photoshop from a number of consecutive images.
Thank you to everyone that emailed me after I posted my last Photoshop video telling me that I was pronouncing "GIF" incorrectly. I do not know what I'd do without you. ;)
Seriously though, thank you to those that also told me I was incorrect when, in that previous video, I stated that one cannot create an animated GIF from images using Photoshop.

I had run into a few problems that had caused a delay in me creating a gif. Few mins ago, it was 12 minutes before my deadline. This tutorial helped me a lot, clear and straight to the point! The zoom-in edits really helped too! Helps me from struggling from having to zoom in every few seconds to figure out what to do. Thank you so much!
This is so thorough, clear, and precise; perfect follow-along tutorial and just what I needed to refresh my memory and get a project done quickly!
Thanks for the super QUICK tutorial! Needed to do this for work quickly, and you came through. Appreciate the efficient delivery. :)
Can't thank you enough, Anthony. I've been trying to figure this out while working with Cinemographs. Great!!!
Thanks Anthony! Great video again, short and sweet! and easy to follow
Literally all of the tutorials I was looking at to get a quick rundown on what tasks to perform did not include the one thing you cannot get past-CLICK the "Create Frame Animation" dropdown once you've chosen it as if it is a BUTTON! Thank you, I've been hung up on this and searching for what the problem was! I've never clicked on a dropdown menu item as a button anywhere in all of my days of using design and editing software! Never would have even guessed!
This is about as perfect as a tutorial can be made. Thank you!!
Thank you for explaining this in an easy to follow format!
Thank you. This is a great, simple tutorial, with clear instructions. This is exactly what I needed to create an animated map series.
You're a wonderful instructor, thank you so much! That was very helpful.
I like your videos so much that I give them a thumbs up before watching them. So many of the other youtubers(?) feel the need to insert "moist" music with unnecessary b- roll and sometimes I'm not sure if I'm watching a tutorial or a funeral memorial. 😄
I didn't know you could do this!!!! Thank you so much for the tutorial :)
Searching the web and finally, success! You made it clear and easy. Thanks!
Thanks so much, this video gave perfect, easy-to-follow directions!
Very nicely done and thank you Anthony!
Nice explanations! Super useful thank you!
Thank you, very simple and elegantly shown and explained.
Cool!! What a great tutorial, never knew you could do this in PS. Thanks!!
Thank you so much !! I could not figure out the reverse part!!. Other guy was suggesting to add the clip one by one but you had a correct solution!!
Excellent tutorial video. It is straight forward.
Just a big thanks for the help , been struggling with this on and off for just over an hour before finding your vid.
Super helpful!!! This was the fastest and easiest explanation. Thnxs!!!!
This was so helpful. Thank you!!
I tried many and this is the only one that worked. Thank you.
TERRIFIC Tutorial, Anthony. Really appreciate the effort.
Thank you so much, Anthony!
Thanks for the great video....really helped me out .
Your video was so helpful. Thanks a lot!🥰
Awesome! You're like the Bob Ross of Photoshop. I really enjoy your content, thank you!
worked perfectly, thanks for this!
I Love U ❤️ finally someone’s clear 🙌
Brilliant tutorial!!
So helpful. Thank you.
Thank you Anthony! Also can be done from a video in Vimeo! And really quick and easy!
This is very useful. Thanks!
Cool, I wondered how to do this. Thanks!
perfect video - thank you
Thank you sir that was very informative and helpfull....
Thanks! A much better explanation than Adobe!
Thank you, huge help
Great info! Another good real world tip. I frequently would like to use a gif and can’t seem to find one I like.
You are the best ❤
This was super clear and easy, thank you! Do you happen to have any tutorials on how to apply coloring and/or PSDs to gifs? I feel like a total moron, but I can't figure out how to place coloring onto the entire timeline rather than one image at a time, and no matter how I word my search, I can't find instructions for it! Thanks!
Love your voice! soothing..
Thank you for this. I create maybe 1 gif a year from images of something goofy one of my brothers is doing. I always need a refresher on how to do.
Great video, thank you! Only thing I wanted to ask you. During export, you select Dithered 128, then when you chose color 256, the Dithered 128 selection goes away and says unnamed again.
Fantastic thanks
thank you!!
Thank you ser!
Hi Anthony...thanks for the video. Question: Can the new GIF be loaded onto Instagram or Facebook without any other modifications?
Thanks, Anthony, that was wonderful. I was able to create an animated GIF with your clear instructions even though I am not Photoshop-savvy. Just one question - my animation appears to run too fast. Is there a way to slow it down?
Thanks. Do you know if Affinity Photo can do the same?
Hi Anthony, all went smoothly until I watched the exported file. The colours were different from how they looked in PS and there was significant banding. Any suggestions?
Please create more videos like that!! I was so perfect....
Thank you!
hi, im struggling because the colors comes off like partly transparent but dark and it comes super big, any suggestions to what i did wrong ? thanks
HEY! If anyone accidentally presses the "Video" option just after the "Open Timeline" step, there is a little icon on the bottom left that toggles between the two timeline formats!
you can also select the file and press space. This will preview it and you'll see it as a gif. (on mac)
HI Thank you for amazing techniques I have created a video music for christmas i want to put a slowly rotating 3D 2023 on the right lower corner of this clip can i bring mp4 into photoshop and animate this 2023 on seperate layers ? other programs keep watermarking after being saved..thanks..what would have been as your suggestion
Great tutorial. I'm able to follow it precisely abd everything works until i try to preview it or save it. I get a nessage that there isn't enough memory available, which is odd because i have a brand new MacBook Pro with hardly any memory used. Any thoughts?
Thank you
thanks!
Hey, I've been using this method for a long time and its been working great. Although now when I come to save the Giff, photoshop won't allow me to save it 128 dithered, with 256 colours, it automatically goes back to un-named, when I select this combo. Is there away around this, as the giffs are coming out pixelated. Thank you
Great tutorial. So I imagine if you are creating an image that already has layers, you need to flatten it before you create the gif?
how do you change the speed
How to delay the time between image?
Excellent as always. But is there no setting for playback speed? I'll find out, as I'll be trying this tonight. I often take multiple shots of a waterfall for blending to get a silky slow-shutter look, so I have plenty of stock. This technique might work well on night sky shots too, like the hours of exposures I've taken to catch a few meteors. Lots of possibilities with this. You can open a gif in some video players. I believe the Windows 10 default player will play GIFs, but I use a version of MPC, or Media Player Classic, to play GIFs and even pause or advance them frame-by-frame.

Theres is an option on photoshop for how long each frame should be or you could also just make video in Premier and make a gif out of that.
How come when I do this and upload the gif file onto mydrive it doesn’t play. It doesn’t play in vlc either, only in photos app and on web.
What's a blink pixel?
Ok but how do I share this file to my phone and to others?
Great tutorial!!! Thank you!! :))
I don't have a "make new frame from layers" option
Great video. PS: I think Dave Chappelle owes you royalties for using your voice on his shows
What edition is the Photoshop?
Thanks so much... I was trying to create this using Photoshop Help...which was no help...lol
Is it possible at all to save this as an MP4 file and not a GIF?

gotta make it in adobe premier
cheers
Mine isn't moving why
Letchworth State Park Upper Falls?
Thanks. Incidentally, I'm the 913th to like this vid and the file I'm about to make an animated gif of is 913x913 pixels. What are the odds?
you changed it to 128 dithered, then when you picked the color 256, it went back to unnamed.
Hey that's Letchworth
Easy? Easy! You call that easy? Oh wait, I forgot... I'm stupid.
