Learn how to make a wedding cake in this three part wedding cake recipe series. In this part, we review how to stack and 3 tier wedding cake.
Part 1: • How to Make a Wedding ...
Part 3: • How to Make a Wedding ...
Materials Required
• 6" double layer buttercream coated cake
• 8" double layer buttercream coated cake
• 10" double layer buttercream coated cake
• 7 Wooden dowel rods (or plastic)
Procedure
1. Place three rods into the 10" cake in the shape of a triangle, about 3"-4" apart. Make sure that the rods will be underneath the 8" cake that will be above the support rods.
2. Mark the rods with an edible pen, or score with a knife, just below the top of the cake. Trim the rods using a knife, saw or sharp sears to the trim line.
3. Reinsert the rods into the previous holes, and ensure that they are flush with the top of the cake. If they are not, re-trim them.
4. Place the 8" cake on top of the support rods.
5. Place three rods into the 8" cake in the shape of a triangle, about 3"-4" apart. Make sure that the rods will be underneath the 6" cake that will be above the support rods.
6. Repeat trimming process of the rods and insert them back into the holes that go through the 10" and 8" cakes.
7. Place the 6" on top of the support rods.
8. Trim one rod to fit below the surface of the top of the cake, and press down into the cake through all three layers of cakes. This will prevent the cake from moving.
9. Using a small amount of buttercream, patch the hole at the top of the cake and spread smooth.

To all the people thinking you cut the cake with the dowels in. Only the bride and groom cut into the cake when it's stacked. Once you are ready to serve the cake you un stack it. Remove the dowels and then serve it to guests.

Peaches Bapoo Just for the size and weight of the cake, I would recommend not using skewers, and going with dowels. You definitely need something sturdy holding the cakes together, all that cake ends up weighing a lot more than you'd expect.

2 to 3 weeks last min depending on the decorations and labor that need to be put into making the cakes. From my experience

@@anandaperez2985 so you freeze it,for two or three weeks? I have never done it,but I will give it a try. I heard they get more moist after you thaw it for a few hours before frosting it for the final decoration.

After baking and removing from the pan, wrap your cake in saran to sweat the cake, it keeps in moisture and tastes so moist! I make cakes 5 days ahead

Hi Jen. I love your videos! Just a quick question. Have you purposefully made your buttercream frosting firm? It looks like its a little firm, just wondering if that's for a specific reason? It almost looks like white chocolate ganache :0) Thanks for these wonderful tutorials! Nick x

Thank you for this tutorial. I saw a video where a baker used parchment between the laters and no cardboard and that freaked me the hell out. I have a three tier to stack Saturday

Can I use straws instead of dowels?
Love your videos jenn
Thanks I love this
can you please make a video on the different ways we can use pillars😊
this is so helpful! Just a question, for how many persons is this cake? I never know how many slices I can get out of a cake, do you have any tips for me?
Hi love this tutorial!! How many servings will you get out of this cake? I will be making my first wedding cake and I need to serve 200 people
hi great bid. do u have a recipe for the buttercream used on the cake? thanks
When stacking cakes do you place boards in the middle of the layers like between top n middle layers n middle and bottom layers if that makes sense lol
For everyone that scare of wood dowel use bubble tea straws. They support the cake pretty well but i would suggest using more for larger cakes.
Once you stab the wood stick through the card board, wouldn't there be a little piece of that card board in the cake? What if someone swallowed it? :(

muchas gracias
I'm only doing a 2-tier cake, 8x3 and 6x3 and I am transporting it so do you recommend a single dowel from 2nd tier down? Hope that makes sense ~ thanks.
thank you for your clear tutorials. Can you give some advise on how I would transport a tiered cakes. I have to drive 30 km to the wedding venue ith the and that scares me more than making the cake.
@sbean2987
8 жыл бұрын
Someone else drives slowly and you carry the cake in your lap. That is what I have to do when transporting. And let me just tell you...it is SCARY! But do-able.
You make it look so easy! I'm sure at some point I would have rolled a tier across the counter! Excellent job!!
I know there is more than one way to do things but it has been my experience it is best to mark one dowel and cut all the same size do this for each tier . When you mark and cut each if your cake is not perfectly level you may have a disaster on your hand. . I have had to take co workers cakes apart at the last minute because they cut the dowels like s your video.
Thanks!
Please advice what is the measurement for the butter cream & items used. Thank you.
Would I use the same number of dowel rods for a 14" 10" 6 cake?
A good tip is to place the dowels, mark one, and cut the rest the same size as the marked one (as opposed to marking them all) That way if your cake isn't *perfectly* leveled (or squishes), at least the dowels are the same size and the cake will sit level on those. Great series! Loving the info you're sharing to people just getting into caking :)

Good tip.
love it.....
when should i bake the cake and work on it before the wedding please ?
How do you keep icing from sticking to cake board?
Did you refrigerate these cakes at all in-between the frosting process and the stacking process?
hi I am in love with this tutorial, I am a uge fan of your show, and I would like to know about a price for this wedding cake if you have to sell it at what price will you be selling it for? thank you
Hi your work is awesome. What are the sizes of the cake.
Thanks Ma'am this is awesome, stacking the cake with dowels but is it necessary to insert them in the first layer?
hi, how do u insert the centre dowel when there are cake board at each tier of cake?
@MissLittleTee

How do u get recepie for wedding cake & butter cream to decorate thank you.
Hi I love your videos
hi what do you call that big scraper to lift the second and first tier??
Beautyful
sooooo cool
For dowels, I get kebab skewers in the kitchen section at the dollar store (99cent) and they work perfectly and are Much less expensive!
hey there! if your tier layers are 14,10 and 6 would i need a bigger center dowel? i have the size you have but have seen so many videos where people are using much larger sizes like a 1/2 inch!
AWSOME video! Very easy to understand and helpful! Thanks so much!
for the second tier, when going thru the board, is it going into the base tier? or are you stopping at the board?
hi jen, i just want to ask if you put a cardboard of each cake when tiering the cake. if so, im just wondering is it possible when putting the dowell straight to the bottom.
how do u know where to place the rods in the cake and how do know if it went through the card board dome to hold it down?
