Hi. I need a clarification please : If i deactivate an already activated and calibrated TIP, is the calibration lost ? Thanks.
Good evening. Thank you for sharing the hardware and software. It was very kind of you. I assembled the hardware and downloaded the software. I am using the version released on April 24, 2020. I am using a C4 tip. I already made the gain adjustment in the op amp use constant power and 300C. I tried to use tip calibration function 2 times and failed. All goes well until step 6. When I reach step 7, the temperature reading goes to single-digit and does not increase above 7, the duty cycle goes to 100% and tip overheats to red. I was never able to finish the calibration. Any hint on what I am doing wrong? Thank you. Best wishes from Arizona, USA.

Hello, I'll try to help you, even thought it's quite hard to troubleshoot remotely. 1. Please tell me of any differences between your build and mine (did you use any different component?) 2. where did you source your components? (harvested from old electronics, china, reputable seller, local market) 3. are you using F or C? 4. is your tip genuine? a clone? 5. have you tried using an different tip? I'm sorry if I'm asking too much, but in DIY projects like this one, fake/ low quality/wrong components are the no1 suspect for any abnormal behaviors.

@@sasiskas Thank you for the answer. I live in US, I am using genuine semiconductor components. The tip is from China, although I already used it successfully in a linear pulsed temp regulator. I was monitoring the waveform on the gate of the Power Fet with my oscilloscope and when I reach step 7 I can not see any dead time anymore from the Arduino, meaning it does not behave anymore as PWM. By the way, I am using a Nano version. I am using Celsius as measurement units. I have not yet tried a different tip, I will try it next. I have successfully used constant power mode, just step 7 of the calibration was unsuccessful. Thank you again for the time. Best wishes from Arizona

@@fernando3670rocha sorry for the late reply but I didn't receive a notification for some reason. It looks like the controller can't read high temperatures, in terms of internal units. This could happen because of the following reasons: - bad tuning of the station. Try re-tuning the station using a temperature probe. When the tip reaches 500C (measured using the temperature probe) the internal units should be 900 (adjust the 500k trim pot accordingly) - another reason is that you didn't use a rail to rail amplifier -another reason is that you think that you use a rail to rail amplifier, but you actually use a fake amp.

Hi! Wonderful work. I think I am going to build it. Do you have any comment about how would this project compare to KSGER V2.1S T12 for 36$ ?? I am inclined to DIY, but always ready to get a good manufactured solution..
@sasiskas
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I don't own a KSGER, but I believe that the performance is pretty much the same. Each one has pros and cons. With the DIY you can learn, you can know every component of your station, also the code is open source(you can read it, learn from it and modify it) . And finally if you are the type of person who enjoys DIYs, then you will definitely enjoy the procedure. But you need to know that you will have to spend time and possibly troubleshoot if you do something wrong. The ready made KSGER on the other hand is better if you don't want to spend any time, you wont need to troubleshoot at all. But you don't learn anything , the code is not opensource as far as I know (I might be wrong), and generally you don't feel the satisfaction of achieving something by yourself. It is clearly a matter of your personality.

Can you explain to me the temperature measuring principle of a soldering iron tip? It only has two wires for both power supply and temperature measurement. I have searched through many resources but still don't understand how it measures temperature.
@sasiskas

Long story short: Inside the t12 tips, the heating element is connected in series with the thermocouple. So during normal operation, the controller supplies power to the tip and during certain intervals, it stops supplying power and checks the temperature.

This is a problem reported by a few people. I have also personally faced this issue. To be honest I am not really sure what may be the reason that causes this issue, but my theory is that some PSUs cause some kind of interference that causes this problem. I have managed to overcome this issue either by using a plastic enclosure or by connecting DC ground to the metal enclosure (which is connected to earth). If you don't have earth connection at home and you are using a plastic enclosure, i would suggest that you used a different psu, maybe an external laptop psu would work.

I'm not new to electronics and I build a few soldering stations even a digital soldering iron based on ATmega328 but this project gives me a headache, so the problems are: 1 Never get to RDY even if it reaches the set temperature, just stays on. 2 Never get in Stand By mode even if I set it to 10 seconds, just stays on, so the handle movement detection it doesn't work as well. 3 Never turns off, it doesn't matter to how many minutes I set it 3 or 20 min. it always stays on. 4 Calibration is not possible, never goes to RDY, always stays on and never passes the step 1. I suspect it's something wrong in the software and I'm not sure were is the problem, the software it's quiet overly complicated writen for what it supposed to do, anyway I'm saying that it the software because it should enter in Stand By mode after let say 5 min or whatever you set it to, but it doesn't. Regardless of all of this the soldering station works fine, temperature readings are stable and it it almost spot on, only few degrees deviation from the set temperature, I forgot to mention that the calibration via trimmpot is still possible. Please help. ps : I'm using the latest revision of the schematic (Rev2.1).

disconnect pin D10 from Arduino and check the voltage at the gate of your Mosfet. Should not be 0V.

@@sasiskas With arduino totally disconnected I have 14.4 v at the gate of the mosfet. My PSU is at 24V.

@@hedi875 the voltage at the gate should not be 0. (I accidentally said 0, edited my previous comment). So it is ok that there is 14.4v. Are you sure that your mosfet is working? With 14.4V at the gate it should not be ON. Also double check your transistors, that the pins are correct and that you used NPN and PNP correctly.

@@sasiskas was surprised by your first statement (voltage should be 0)..... now it makes sens. Yes I double cheked the pins of transistors and have even replaced them by new ones. I'm using two 2N2222 (NPN) and one MPS2907 (PNP). Have tested the mosfet with a mosfet testing jig circuit and it is OK, have replaced the mosfet with a new one (IRF9540N) without success.

While having 14.4v at the gate of the mosfet i am getting at the same moment 22v at the terminals of the iron handle connector on the pcb??? So may be 24v is a too high voltage for the IRF9540 or I'm using a series of faulty mosfets??
Can somebody tell me which arduino IDE version to use, i keep getting an error while uploading to arduino

Hello. I have a problem with tip calibration (I have C4 and KR). Tune pass successfully, adjusted 300 degrees. I choose C4 (uncalibrated). The temerature steps look like this: 1.300->300 2.180->154 3.226->210 4.288->290 5.364->373 6.420->424 There is a problem at step 7. The set temperature is 29 degrees power 50% and the actual temperature is > 424. I can't go to step 8. When I exit tip calibration to the main page, I can only choose tip B and B1 even though they are deactivated and I can't select C4 and KR even though they are activated. I'm using the I2C version. Can someone help me with this?

Hello, sorry for the late response. This is quite odd and I need to investigate it. For the moment what I suggest is that you stop the calibration at stage 6. Your station will be extremely accurate at stage 6 anyways.

@@sasiskas HI. Thank you for your answer. How to abort calibration? Press the encoder button to turn off the power and then longer to go to the main screen? Today I tried to do so but the tip changed to B4 and not KR which I calibrated. I realize that the T12 Tip can be of average quality (it wasn't the cheapest). The calibration temperatures are more or less similar. Oh and I checked the value of the temperature and for 500C it is about 900. Regards

@@Stawustawu hello, sorry for the late reply but I never received a notification from KZread. When in step 6, adjust the temperature by rotating the rotary encoder and then long press the button. Everything will be saved up to step 6.

@@sasiskas Thanks for answer, that's what I did. If I interrupted the calibration, I do not have option to choose my tip (as if it was not activated). I have to enter this selection menu tip then deactivate and reactivate. It shows up with the signature: uncalibrated. Despite this, the data for this tip is saved? The temperatures are more or less the same.
How i can set the tip of tip for this station and how I can calibrate
