Tysm! I have a lot of old unfinished sketchbooks I didn't want to continue drawing in since I've improved so much since, but also didn't want to waste the paper. I bound the unused pages and now have a whole new sketchbook that I can proudly say I made myself :) Will definitely be doing this again down the road.

I've read some people rub wax on their covers to protect. Or you can find a matte varnish to spray on them. Just make sure it is archival-safe so it doesn't ruin your paper/book over time.

I remember doing sketchbook binding from this video & it was pretty easy to make, despite that I didn’t have the correct tools for it. I didn’t have an awl, utility knife, cutting mat, bone folder, or wax string... however I had a circle tracer (or whatever you call that circle maker ma-bob), Exacto knife, sharp scissors, an old flimsy cardboard from the recycle, my fingers, & embroidery thread. It may not have been perfect, but it still turned out alright! I even Wax stamped it to signify my first time making a sketchbook bind all by myself. So if I can make it, you can!

Don't get me wrong, it looks like a hot mess, lol. But I couldn't be happier and know that this is something that will take a lot of practice to get right. I've been a sea sub for quite a while and you have really provided so many tools for binding and other crafty goodness. I am currently obsessed with making handmade art journals and I literally couldn't do it without you 😁 I hope you and Kona had a wonderful holiday!!

Thank you so much. This was a great video. I did my first book with hemp wick cover in bee's wax (what I had at the house) Used a bigger size needle to pierce the holes so the hemp wick would go through. It was beautiful. Thank you

Hi 🙋‍♀️ I was watching Nik the Booksmith's recent vid on book binding and it gave me the idea to just look around and see what else was out here on the subject. I came across your video and just wanted to 'shake your hand' and say thank you for sharing this info. Your instructions are very clear and much appreciated. Smiles from the Southern California desert, MK 😁🌞🌵

If you don’t have a bone folder, you can use the non serrated edge of a butter knife. Just make sure you tape the serrated edge or something similar, because you definitely can cut your finger on a butter knife.

One way to make sure your holes line up is to use scrap paper to make a template with a thin sheet of scrap paper. Make it longer than your signatures, and mark where the bottom of the signature will be. Measure and mark your hole down the center of the template, than punch out the holes. Now you can put the template inside the signatures, line up the bottom, and punch! A bonus if this is you can label the size of the signatures and the type of binding and resume the template later to make another book!

Wow thank you so much for this easy to follow tutorial! Never thought I would be making my own sketchbook. Been having a hard time finding the right sketchbook with the exact paper weight/texture I needed in my area. ordering online was going to take weeks to get what I was looking for. Found the paper I wanted in a spiral bound pad and used the backing sheet as the covers. A fifth the cost of what a premium sketchbook was going to cost me with shipping. Thanks again
