I've been looking at the Makita and the Festool for a while...need to make a choice soon! Lovely unit will not only do what it says on the tin but also looks the part and will last a lifetime. Jigs really do help us get through those repetitive tasks don’t they. Fab job big man👍👍 You should have a look at the blanking cover and also stepped depth indicator from Strawbyte Workshop, very handy additions to the Makita rail saw. Also, I sometimes connect the Makita dust bag that came with the mitre saw ( as useful as a fart in a spacesuit on that) to my rail saw using an adapter for those jobs when you don't really need to get the vacuum out, it does a good enough job in catching most of the sawdust and I reckon the blanking cover helps.

Maybe a bit over the top, but I did wonder if a stopped sliding dovetail would remove the potential for gaps opening up once the timber shrinks in the house and would also hold the sides together without screws. Obviously a bit more set up but does cover up shrinkage. I am by no means an expert being retired, so I’m sure you will explain the virtues of dados/trenches. Just a though from an idle old man lol
