    Thankyou for a fantastic explanation of schlieren imaging, and always showing us crazy and interesting stuff all the time! :) Unrelated, a random psychological glitch occurred to me here, as I had to keep rewinding at the start of the parabolic mirror bit because I kept zoning out, until I realised why (aside from being tired), which was that it looked like the moon from lying on one's back and falling asleep, with that last smaller glint before you phaze out, and my brain just went with it 3 times in a row, and now I'm thinking to put a big glow-in-the-dark moon on my ceiling because I can't usually sleep very easily! Not trying to say your video sent me to sleep, but had to share this realisation, out of intrigue and for others' utility, and thought you might find it funny! :)

    You have to "charge" a "generator"? So what is it really, a generator or a power bank?

  • @JCWren

    @JCWren

    2 жыл бұрын

    Agreed. It irritates me to hear these called "generators". We've had them for YEARS, and they're called Uninterruptible Power Supplies. These things have their place, but I'll take my Generac whole-house propane generator or a noisy gas generator any day. Why? What happens when the battery bank runs out of power during a power outage? Going to plug it in to recharge it? Oh wait... But what about solar charging? The majority of power outages occur as a result of storms. And that solar charger doesn't work so well in the rain. So these Ecoflow type things are good for camping and short-term power tool usage on a job site, but they're no replacement for a proper fossil fuel powered generator. They're also expensive as get-out, and I expect the batteries will fail before your gas generator does.

  • @peterwhitey4992

  • @michelfug

    @michelfug

    Doesn't the same argument hold for fuel powered generators? You need them to "fuel up", and it doesn't generate anything, it just converts. It converts chemical potential energy into electrical energy. Much like a battery in it's own way. I see your point that the promoted product is nothing like a traditional fuel powered generator, but calling it a power bank or battery also doesn't quite cut it IMO.
