    Beautiful! 🤩 I love love love your eye for patchwork colour/pattern combos 💕 Tip for people with overlockers, you can use them to gather! 😃 Instead of sewing two parallel lines on your regular machine, an overlocker does two lines of stitching at once (plus the looping thread). Pull on those two lines of stitching to start gathering 🤩 (you can also change the differential feed setting to make it start gathering the fabric while you sew) 🥰

    Have you ever tried using a bias tape folder? Clover makes them for various widths. I resisted buying one for many years because I thought it was so easy to just fold the bias binding manually.. BUT the folder is amazing and so fun and easy to use. I recommend! I’m working on a moto jacket pattern this week to eventually make out of leather (😱) but I’m starting with a cotton prototype to practice.

  • @fromcarlyb

    @fromcarlyb

    Eyeballing the shape is great! You can also start from a rectangle bodice shape that is slightly bigger then your bust & then add a little curve from the top to 1/3 way down the side seam to accomodate your arm. Hope that helps!

    You can start with a rectangle that is slightly bigger then your bust size & then add a little curve where the arm goes! If you can kind of replicate the shape that I show in the video then that’s great! It should sit above the bust & end slightly below the bust. Hope that helps a little!

    It is a little weird to start with! If you make the bodice a rectangle that is about 5 -10cm bigger then your bust then that will achieve a similar look! You can add a little dip/curve under the arm and slightly angle the side seam to be diagonal as additional steps. Hope that helps!

    I really hate gathering. Don’t get me wrong I love the way it looks, but my thread always seems to snap while I’m sewing or when I pull it I’m always worried about snapping it. One thing I found worked well for me is zig zagging over yarn. I used a thin crocheting yarn and changed my zig zag width a little until it didn’t catch and that worked really well for me. It didn’t matter if my thread broke while I was sewing and because the yarn is stronger than thread? I wasn’t worried while I was gathering either!
