The actuator is easy, controlling it is the harder part. The last linear actuator I worked with was the sled drive on a high end Sony CD player, the control and feedback circuits were sweet!

Just so you all know the cores of those windings are special coated and laminated steel that prevents eddy currents that would cause inefficiencies of the motor...

These are mechanically simple parts which have a huge effect on downtime when they fail. If they had to be replaced after 5 years they wouldn't use them or lynch someone for engineering obsolescence.

I have designed and had built a very similar product. We used CNC winding to achieve a close packed optimal stacking, where every wire has a determined position as from the CAD model. I did not like the potting and vacuuming hassle. Currently I am back to working with metals exclusively.

@@yhdfa Sony used to use a linear motor as the sled drive on their top line CD players some years ago. Yep, really fast and precise response! Judging by the gauge wire used, they can handle quite a duty cycle and more than a few kilos of mass.

Thank you🌹🌹, this one requires us to change the direction of current to change the direction of motion. The software in the computer controller sends commands to the actuator to drive the linear electric motor in a linear reciprocating motion.

Even the one that still can last 2 life times they want you replacing at least 1-2 a decade if you want official service in them. Small shops are getting popular

These are mechanically simple parts which have a huge effect on downtime when they fail. If they had to be replaced after 5 years they wouldn't use them or lynch someone for engineering obsolescence.

I have designed and had built a very similar product. We used CNC winding to achieve a close packed optimal stacking, where every wire has a determined position as from the CAD model. I did not like the potting and vacuuming hassle. Currently I am back to working with metals exclusively.

@@yhdfa Sony used to use a linear motor as the sled drive on their top line CD players some years ago. Yep, really fast and precise response! Judging by the gauge wire used, they can handle quite a duty cycle and more than a few kilos of mass.

Very nice videos on your channel👍 But also when the coil ends are connected together differently (to get always one or two coils the other magnetic field) you need a negative voltage or? Because you must swap the magnetic fields in the coils all the time. Or I'm false? How it is done then to swap the magnetic fields in the coils?

Thank you🌹🌹, this one requires us to change the direction of current to change the direction of motion. The software in the computer controller sends commands to the actuator to drive the linear electric motor in a linear reciprocating motion.
