I made this! It's a must try. My husband who doesn't like fruity taste cake loves it too. For anyone who doesn't have self raising flour just make yourself, ratio is 1 cup plain flour : 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder : 1/2 teaspoon salt. I substitute lemon juice in the cake with 2 teaspoons of lemon extract, and top the cake with lemon glaze instead. Thanks for sharing us the recipe.

I do bake on and off but must say This is the most simple recipe for a beautiful cake. Quick and easy. Definitely recommend this for beginners

Once upon a time, people used to say, "Mmmmm, it tastes so good, it tastes homemade!". Homemade should always be better. Shop bought should NEVER be better because of the crap they put in. 'Love' goes into the baking at home. May you be blessed.

I made this yesterday for my friend's birthday. I am not a great baker and this turned out perfectly. The cake is moist but not sticky ( I used lactose free milk) and the lemon is not overwhelming. The frosting is light and fluffy. Very spreadable but easily melts. I will definitely make this again and often.

Your cake came out yummy!! I didn't have self raising flour so used all purpose flour and added two teaspoons of baking powder...also I used just a plain lemon icing (lemon juice, lemon rind and icing sugar) OMG YUMMMMMMM...thanks for an awesome recipe

The cake came out perfect. But I would recommend reducing the amount of sugar if you plan on making this. I found it a bit too sweet. Oh and I also added 3 eggs instead of 4.

hello, thank you so much for your recipe, I made this today. Super easy and fantastic taste. One thing i did was to sift the flour together with the baking powder and I also added a pinch of salt to the dry ingredients. Can I check with you, most recipes cream the butter and sugar together first. Do you think it would make a difference if I did that first? Once again thanks a lot!

Okay I made this recipe and I have to tell you it's the best lemon cake recipe I've ever made. I used 1 cup of sugar, and added a bit of orange culinary flavor, and I found out later that the milk I used had gone sour. And it turned out so soft and fluffy and moist and rich. Definitely recommend the recipe

fluff your flour, like you are trying to put air in it , BEFORE you measure , if you pack it in your measuring cup , you may be using too much flour

@@kimwilliams9197 it was good , the best cake ive ate is the banana cake / with maple frosting , in the yellow,( Calling All Cooks ) recipe book , try that one , the frosting has to be whipped 20 minutes , sooo good , my mother in law and sister said it was the best cake they have ever eaten

its SELF RISING flour , not plain , if you only have plain flour add about 2 teas of baking powder , 250 grams of butter equals 1 cup , the 125 grams in the frosting equals a half of cup , i had to goggle that myself

Greetings from Cape Town South Africa Thanks for an absolutely fantastic recipe I made this today with 125g butter, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 eggs, 1 cup of self rising flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 cup room temperature milk and juice of 1 small lemon, and its zest & pinch of salt. I whisked butter and sugar till creamy, added eggs one at time whilst whisking by hand ( you can use a spoon too) then added the lemon juice and zest, thereafter I sifted dry ingredients and whisked by hand. I greased a springform pan and dusted with flour, then added batter. I preheated oven on 160 degrees and baked batter for 30 min and it was perfect. I wanted a single layer cake otherwise use original recipe on here. I used the lemon frosting as per recipe here too. Absolutely divine. If you have to bake several cakes for an occasion I would strongly recommend single layers
