For once, I don't care about the work you were doing. Seeing your daughter work with you in such a calm manner was heartwarming. It says good things about you!
Way cool that your daughter got to enjoy "ah ha" moments being engaged in the build. Hope she continues to make stuff
Hexagons are the Bestagons!
Good job, Dad! Time spent in the shop creates precious memories for both of you. Keep him honest, Melody.
Good times! I don't have children but I have done many projects with teens. When they have that "aha" moment is so much fun for me. That's when I know I'm doing things right.
Awesome. I don't comment much, but it's good to see a father teaching his kid worthwhile skills... and hand-tool woodworking is safe and rewarding. If you try this again in the future, I'd recommend gluing up entire sheets of veneer to a 1/8-1/4" ply board and THEN cutting the hexes. I think you'd avoid that veneer fraying and splintering, and you could bring to bear your tool skills to get them perfect.
Awesome build, James and Melody! Those three colors of the hexagons really popped after you guys put the BLO on it!
What a fun project to do together! Great job, Melody!
Lovely to see you two building together and your different takes on the video. One thought on Melody's sawing, I found with coaching archery when people were struggling to draw the bow and keep the bow, wrist and forearm aligned a shift in focus really helped, I suggested not to think about drawing the bow but to just think about moving your elbow backwards and suddenly everything would become much easier. I expect with Melody's sawing suggesting to just think about moving her elbow backwards and forwards would help in a similar way. And good luck setting up your new workshop :)
oh man! Melody even has a blue headband! i want a short of james using it while the two play chest!!
What a wonderful and sweet project. Thanks to both of you for sharing it with us.
CGP Grey fans and woodworkers crossover!!!
Very nice James & Melody! Melody is developing into a beautiful young lady with a wide range of skills, but more importantly, she’s developing critical thinking skills!
Hexagons ARE the bestagons 😁
That's great! Thanks for this, really awesome
Video up above. Nice work and a cool project. Thanks!
Another great video! Thank you for all of the great content!
Stunning work, guys! Really well done! 😃 But that's why it's good to have a scroll saw. 😬 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
You di great work Melody !
Very nice. I've been playing chess for 50 years, just for fun. I never saw a hexagonal chess board.
Reminds me of Chinese checker board. I used to play against my mom when I was in elementary school.
great project guys
Thanks for sharing that!
Beautiful board. Reminds me of the Avalon Hill games that were popular my first year in college. Thanks for sharing. (As of 9:30 a.m, 3/2., the link to Melody's video doesn't work.)

Being an old school woodworker and not using electricity sometimes allows me to joke around a little while I learn,, being an old school father and giving a beautiful young lady a MAN to look up to and count on, gives me nothing but respect.. I might argue that chessboard is the most awesome thing you have ever made.... Without question,, your best video yet.....
I am unfamiliar with hexagonal chess. I have enough trouble with the traditional game!
Great!!!
James, I think you missed putting the link to Melody's channel in your description?

Comment down hexagonal!
Did you have to comb through the hive mind to come up with that shape?
Hey... He's actually making something!

I put a build video up every saturday. One on both channels.
Have you tried letting PVA dry on the veneer and then melting it again with an iron to attach it to the backer board?

That can work okay with hide glue but with PVA you lose a large amount of the holding force. And especially with veneer where the grain is going in different directions that could be a problem.
I would never comment down below!
