How To Make a Fun Oil Painting Pet Portrait in Photoshop
Follow along with today's Photoshop tutorial to turn your pet into a renaissance masterpiece. We'll use a public domain oil painting of a 19th century Dutch General as the source, then combine some Photoshop filters to apply the painterly look to a digital photograph to blend the two images into a comedic portrait that is cute, surreal and hilarious at the same time!

Hello Spoon Graphics! I know this video is 4 years old and you probably won’t see this but I am a teen looking for ways to make some summer money and I took a digital arts class at school and my teacher showed me this video and this gave me an idea to start a doggie oil painting photoshop business and the reason why I’m talking about this is if I have permission to do this and if I do I will credit your videos and link my pictures sent to the customers the credit on who taught me who to do this! Thank you for your time to read this (if you are) 😊
Sad news from the Spooner household... Yesterday we had to say goodbye to our dog Jake 😢 He will always be remembered with this image taking prime placement on our kitchen wall

Hey I'm sorry about your dog. I've had pets die as well, and I tell myself that having them in my life to take care of, even for a little, while was a gift to both of us that will stay with me always.

Great lesson ,thanks! Usually I also draw the fur on the edges of the pet and add a shadow under it's head and ear(s). On this image I'd made less contrast of the dog's head.
Love this! Thanks for a great tutorial.
Thanks so much for this tut, I made my dog look pretty cool.

Bonus tip: You can use mixer brush to go over the dog for even more realistic looking brush strokes.
New subscriber here! As a fellow artist, I love watching your process and I love making animal art too! Thanks for sharing!
Very Good
A friend of mine bought one of these portraits... I bet the seller learned it from YOU! D:
Mega Good
Thank you so much for this! I wanted to get one of these for my Dad for Fathers Day but didn’t think he’d really want a canvas picture of it to hang (especially not for $50 and up!). This was a perfect tutorial and now I have a digital file I can print myself for a fraction of the price! I am an absolute beginner with Photoshop and your tutorial was very clear and easy to follow. I had to pause it A LOT to find all the things you were clicking on, but I got through it and I love the result!

its been two years, have you mastered photoshop? how did you go about learning it? asking because i'm a beginner!
Oh WOW! that is amazing! Can you do another tutorial to show how to turn an entire pet photo in painting photo (not just a head)?XD
wich version of photoshop are you using? thanks! your videos are truly amazing!
nice
could not find half of the things here but it came out good enough
This video was perfect, and very easy to follow along. One question I have, is how would you make the cracks stand out on a pet with white fur? I'm trying with a white cat right now and everything looks good, but you can't see the imperfections on the face due to the white color. Any tips? Thanks again for the help!
Can't belive that some sites are charging so much for something that can be done yourself. Thanks.
Our dog died yesterday and this is a perfect gift for my GF's upcoming b-day! Thanks a lot for this tutorial. Subbed!!
Hi, thanks for the great video. I want to get into this as an hobby....but just wandered which variation of Photoshop is sufficient to achieve this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My doggo didn't turn out as well as yours, but still pretty good (in my opinion) considering it was my first time using photo shop. So thanks!!
Great tutorial- when you say the image is from the public domain is this a search I can do in google to find an image and create my own with a different image- and how do i ensure they are large enough to print Thanks in advance
Never have I ever watched a video about something I already knew how to do, and then walk away with a different way or every single step I had in the first place. Sometimes I get one or two new things in place of my existing knowledge, and sometimes I had no idea walking in, but this one kept me on the fringes the whole time. I feel assaulted lol
