How to make a flip/swing card with basic supplies (no dies/templates required!)
Today I will show you how to make a flip or swing card using supplies you already have. If you have shape cutters use them (I am using the oval cutters from Creative Memories) but if not you can use an xacto knife and trace any shape. How easy is that? And frugal considering that the dies to make these cost $10-$40 and they only make one kind of card!
I am using stamps from Rubbernecker: www.rubbernecker.com/
Wildflowers in the wind: www.rubbernecker.com/wildflowe...
Cheesecloth Background: www.rubbernecker.com/cheeseclo...
*Rubber necker has free shipping on orders over $25, make sure you tell them Lindsay The Frugal Crafter sent you!
Supplies:
Cardstock
Pattern paper
Craft knife (xacto) and shape to trace OR shape cutter
Stamps
Ink
Glue stick
This project will take about 15 minutes. You can make 2 cards from one sheet of cardstock and patterned paper so why not make a spare for later?

July 10, 2020. 6 years later and some of those colors are still in the new SU catalog, they have their classic colors and then rotate other in colors. Rococo Rose is a very pretty color. I love that you made this so easy without any fancy equipment! Thank you, Lindsay! Love your card and I bet that Karaoke brought you guys lots of fun! We still use ours, hahaha and yes, 80's rock!
LOVE how you are not into perfection, Lindsay. Makes me feel so much more confident. You're a great teacher.

I’m thrilled to find this old gem of a video from five years ago. I can’t wait to try all the tips you give us here! Thank you!
You make me smile, and laugh. For those who don't like your style of teaching, there are others who teach differently. There are even videos where there is no talking, just demonstrating, I don't care for those. Chose your style, but no need to criticze. "Different strokes for different folks. "

Sylvia Gale well said totally agree with you xx
made my 2nd flip card tonight. pleased with its result, took a couple of hours but I enjoyed the process. I used a grey and white effect wall paper as my patterned backing. With shiny writing and a big butterfly and flowers a tree and some branches and some people in like roman clothes and an odd couple of buttons? weird but cool. I used that on the outer side of the card. And on the oval centre I cut some of the same pattern that had a big poppy like flower. On the inside I stamped it with butterflys and dragonflies and coloured them in. Also on the outer side I stamped a bird cage and bird and a couple of butterflies and dragon dragonflies. I also cut a bow that was in the same shiny grey effect and using the tiny sticky cushions, stuck it on the front after colouring it in colours I had used in the bird, butterflys and dragon flies throughout the card. I also found two pretty buttons, different to each other in size and colour but that went very well with the cards co-ordinating colours and decided to glue them on the front near the grey buttons in the picture on the card but to add to it found a piece of raggeddy old string and coloured it with the same pink that I'd co-ordinated the rest of the card with and threaded the peice through the two buttons. It looked so cool. and I made an envelope where one side is covered in the same patterned wallpaper. Was such fun.

thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich it is. many thanks to your amazing ideas and tutorials. :) I started my Christmas cards tonight. production line style I folded 19 ( thought I'd done 20) plain white card stock in half. then cut a variety of coloured card stock and taped them onto the fronts, then I used my oval card cutter shape and cut out the small photo graph paper and taped them onto the fronts of the coloured paper, some in centre some on the left some on the right . So tomorrow I will be adding stamps effects. I only have black stamps at the mo, but I did order a variety of coloured stamps on eBay last week so am hoping they might arrive tomorrow. On some of the cards I am going to use pictures from old Christmas cards I have saved over the years. and add ribbon and buttons etc, ooh and I'll even emboss some :) Thankyou so much for great ideas and advice once again . Hope you had a wonderful thanksgiving weekend .
I just love watching you! Thank you for all you do and just know your kindness and enthusiasm comes across on screen. I have a son who is physically disabled and he LOVES art. I always told the teaching teams that he has an "artist's soul" and I plan to go through your videos and do a type of art school with him. He's 21 and tells me he is going to be a "big star" someday. His father and I gave him all the cameral equipment he needs to start KZread but we have not really gotten started. I just have to bite the bullet I guess. I am very excited to start his "art school" and I will assist him where necessary but it drives me nuts when people do it for him. He struggles but ultimately his art is uniquely his and that is what speaks to me. Thank you for all your videos and your easy to understand style. My son uses Microsoft paint to draw with a joystick mouse but he also loves to paint. I am specifically hopeful about your techniques that start with rubber stamps or stencils in lighter ink that disappears once the item is painted. I will send you a link once we get started with his channel if you are interested but otherwise I just wanted you to know that what you do is appreciated and I even go ahead and watch the commercials when watching YOUR videos. LOL
well tonight I decided to make my son's birthday card. I decided to try this flip flop card. started at 10e0 pm. finished at 2.30 am and still got a few things to do to it tomorrow. I didn't get frustrated with it. I made many mistakes but rescued each one with different ideas you have suggested in previous tutorials. I tried embossing which was successful until I tried the dusting the card over with a brush using the ink and a brush, I forgot it was a soft brush you use, lol. I was using a hard stencil one. but I just rescued it by going over the whole area the same so it was like a Smokey background. it doesn't look as perfect as yours Lindsay, but it does look good, and I tied things in to make it all go together, including the envelope. So was well pleased with what I have done so far. Just be glad when I can spend less time in them.oh I found that my silicone stamps are getting undticky pretty quickly and some are not printing properly. I willtry the technique you suggest re:using an every board on them lightly. but have you got any tips for keeping the silicone sticky and what would be your suggestion for keeping the stamp block clean and ready for stamps to stick to ?????? many thanks for any helpful advice :) oh I thoroughly enjoyed even making the 'bloop -bloop' noise lol

TOTALLY AMAZING!!! As usual! When I saw the thumbnail in my email I had no idea you were going to start with a blank piece of paper and do all the designs yourself! I thought you were going to use pre-stamped papers!!!! I should know better about you! Thank you!!! You are such a JOY!
Hey Lindsey, thank you so much for such a great tutorial. I was watching some videos today and some people act like it is a priviledge to get a card made from them. You are so humble and so talented - we need more people like you on KZread. God Bless, Sherry
Handmade card are always the most sincere gift ever. I love making cards out of supplies that i have. Your video is an inspiration to me.
This is awesome!! Beautiful card!! And I even have the ovals and the blades - thanks for sharing this - I can't wait to try it! Noelle
Another brilliant idea and gorgeous card!!!! Thanks Lindsay ♥
OMG Lindsey, I bought these stamps, I love them...beautiful!!! I made this card and it came out beautiful!!! I LOVE it and sent it out as a thank you card immediately...Can't wait to use it again!
Love the card! So glad I saw this before I purchased the die that I've been going back and forth about...also I love gray too! I use it a lot!!!
Fantastic! You really know how to show us how simple it really is to make something beautiful! Thank you so much!
You are so creative and a great teacher. I also liked the way you were using resources from different companies instead of just one. Great video. I learned so much. Thank you, Lindsay. Hugs for you. God bless you. Linda Lee
U make it look soo easy. Will have to give it a try. Thanks for a lovely dem.
Getting ready to make my first flip card. Your video was perfect Lindsey. Your easy style of doing of things is what I love about your video's . No perfection here, love it.
Lindsay, Thank you for sharing this pretty card. I want to make some cards and scrapbook pages with my mom (we are both beginners). I spent the weekend looking online at card/scrap supplies (starting from zilch)...and still feel the sticker shock. LOL So, it is nice to see a card that doesn't require 15 (or more) things to make it beautiful.
another great idea for accessories for cards instead of card stock i use wall paper. you can find left over wall paper at Goodwill, yard sale, paint stores. My mom had a big box of scrap. while i had some wall paper sample books they let you check them out. I took pictures of pages of wall paper i had them to order.. Wall paper is great to use and die cuts great, loads of different texture, color and designs for great ideas. Another alternative other than expensive card stock. Better body for cards but thin enough. Save save save. gazillion ideas unlimited. I watch you endlessly. You inspire me forever. Thanks

Absolutely great video and I'd love to see more. I was lucky enough to meet the wonderful people of Rubberneckers stamps in Minnieapolis a week ago and inpurchase a ton of their stamps. Love them and u too Lindsey. Thanks
You could always fold each side to the back about an inch on each side to fit a smaller envelope for mailing and keep the design going instead of cutting them off! This is quick and simple and just plain cute! Thank you for this, and all of your wonderful tutorials!
Love the card. Everything you make is great! Thanks for sharing.
Lindsay thank you for this great tutorial and thank you for saying the word "pocketbook." My mom always called her purse a pocketbook!! You made me think of her and I miss her so much. Sandy Leigh

Your link didn't work, but your video still shows as the example of the stamp set on the Rubberneck site. You make everything DOABLE! Thank you! I wish you all the very best in everything you do Lindsay! The stamp set no longer comes with sentiments.
OMG I love Rubberneckers! Thank you for the tip!
Fantastic, Lindsay. I don't have many dies, so haven't been able to make a flip card easily. Now you've shown just how easy it is without any special equipment I think I'm going to be busy, busy, busy. xx

Thank you so much for this tutorial. Somebody gave me those oval cutters, and I've never used them. There were no instructions. They were just in a baggy with other craft product that she was getting rid of. I'm glad I didn't throw them away!
Love that stamp set.

Beautiful card, you are amazing!
you make this look so easy! Lovely card!
You are seriously awesome! I have been dying to get a big shot to use on my card channel, because of these awesome flip it cards. Thank you so much!!!
I just went to the Scrapbook Expo this past weekend and bought a few of these Rubbernecker stamps. Great to do fun techniques with.
I love this! I just ordered the stamp, plus more. :0) I was wondering if you knew how to cut out the flip/swing using the Cricut Exployer in Design Space? I tried to figure it out, but couldn't figure out how not to cut out the whole oval. I scored the paper but it alwayss wanted to cut the whole oval out. Help, or even if you know of another crafter that shows how to do it using the Cricut. Thank you.
Love this so much!!!!
Wow sure like your style and the card. I have a ton of old stuff. Thanks
simply superb!!!
Brilliant - it is 2.00 a.m. in the UK and I was looking for inspiration for a special card I need for later today - I think I may have just found it - looks like I might get to bed after all :-) Thanks Lindsay x

Thank you so much for this fun video! I want to make some cards like this one! We just moved to the mountains of East Tennessee last summer so I haven't put my stamping shed together yet, but you have given me inspiration to do it! Love your enthusiasm and how real you are. Hi Lindsay. loved this one so much. It and others has inspired me to make ALL my cards from now on. I got myself some of your tools as they look so useful the ATG - tried it out the day it arrived am really chuffed with it and the scor pal too - absolutely brilliant. I also ordered a heat gun, which arrived same time as other stuff oh and a paper trimmer to make life easy, even though I'm not too bad at cutting a straight line. Have had to re-arrange my living room shelves. lol. have not got a seperate art room yet, maybe one day. Oh and have ordered one clear embossing pad and one clear embossing powder looking forward to the latter two arriving. Am going to try this card out tomorrow. I am making my friend a card for passing her driving test, using some old cards I bought at least 6 years ago at our local village fete. I'll probably cut them out like you cut out the oval shapes with those centre thingys, (cant remember what theyre called, Ooh, just noticed it in your description, shape cutters I got a set the other day) can you get replacement blades easily? mine does not seem to open to replace the blade, or do you have to buy the whole new plastic cover the blade sits in? well I think I have got most of the essentials for card making now, and just keep my eye out for bargain stamps, so I can make cards to my hearts content. :)

Great card and totally agree about rubber stamps. Get some 1 Direction songs for that karyoke machine! "That's What Makes You Beautiful," "Best Song Ever" and other great songs from this adorable tweeny bopper band are so much fun! You will love them, too!
What a beautiful card!! And the frugal technique for the flip/swing card is awesome. I knew as soon as I saw the stamp set, I had to have it. I just placed a big order at Rubbernecker Stamps. I had a few questions before I placed my order with them so I asked via their contact form. They immediately got back to me with the answer. I made sure to tell them that I found out about them from your channel. Thanks for sharing this card!!
