How to make a Fishing Gaff and Bonker

Join the Makers Teachers Series: rlnk.cc/themakersteachingseries
In my latest woodworking project, I thought I'd get ahead of fishing season and make myself some epic fishing tools. The hook on the wooden gaff is made out of 3/8" marine grade stainless steel and the gaff handle and bonker are made out of left over Sapele wood from my rocking chair project build.

Like the way you whipped the end with adhesive under the string. Good thinking. Thanks for the content as always - your channel rules. Been watching since the beginning.

This isn't to criticize or anything - great job - but you can improve it just by adding some of those little square plugs to it. A 1cm square plug with that little diamond shape filed into it, stuck out 3mm or so is ideal for bonking the fish on the head - plus 4 of them around the top end of it would look good too. The last thing you want is to have to bonk them twice, right? The quicker and cleaner the better. Well, when you get right down to it a little plug like that will get in and squish the brain much better than a flat plane and that's how you kill them quick and painless. The little plug gets right in between the back of the eyes and kills them dead in an instant - as humane as you can get.
