    Happy wife = more tools. Same here. If I put my tools and shop to work and she gets things out of it, no complaints.

    Thanks for doing this Bub! It is exactly what I wanted and couldn't find anywhere else. For people commenting on the dowels not being finished, we will probably end up putting something on them, but I wanted to test how things worked before committing to anything on them.

    You're making me look bad. My go-to is "I've said I'll do it, there's no need to remind me every 6 months or so!" You lining the pieces up with your knife was satisfying. Small detail, but I liked it!

    Probably just cause I've been following people like you, Paul, Matt, Mr Chickadee and Clay Hayes...almost nothing to me was new in this video...and then you used magnets to find the screws to locate studs. I like that. I have an expensive stud finder and its still meh accurate.

    Nicely designed and built. Just a suggestion, maybe consider convering the dowels with clear packing tape to avoid moisture issues with damp clothes. I like it, hopefully she does too.

  • @pettere8429

    @pettere8429

    Moisture would get in below the tape and get stuck, it is probably better to just keep them as ventilated as possible.

    @@pettere8429 I suppose that's possible, I just don't remember it being an issue on the racks we had.

    Nice. I did a drying rack last year (finally completing the project I'd promised five years earlier!). Mine is on a pulley system and it works very well. The utility room it is in is long and thin, so the pulley works better for me, and stores on the ceiling. Quite common in older houses in the UK, and saves running a dryer for long spells when not necessary (assuming you have good ventilation of course). In hindsight, I could have actually built it longer, but it's difficult to guage just how much space a single wash takes up. Mine is made from zebrano, and I used wedged mortices for the rails, loose wedges for the frame corners and Japanese scarf joints for the lengths that weren't the required two metres. I basically did it as a way to practice joinery, and it surprisingly came out nicely. Drying racks are such good projects as there are so many options for mating joints and lots of opportunity for experiment as it's usually something that's out of the way in a room that nobody goes in! Great work sir.

    That's the conventional wisdom. But in practice reality is different. But to even be on the safe side the towels that touch the clothes are made of poplar.
