Thank you for making this. I've been thinking about how to do this for a long time.

It really easy to build your own terrarium or aquarium. Just take your time and plan it out. It may or may not have taken me three months🧐

I got the acrylic sheets from my local hardware store as well as the solvent. Just ask the employees for help.

Great build! How did your metal latches hold up over time? And have you ever used the plastic ones? Do you prefer one over the other?

the metals ones have been doing great. Acrylic hinges are nice if you want to makes the hinges less visable. I like the metal ones for the looks.

Nice design but next time use cast acrylic not extruded acrylic as it’s weaker

Cast acrylic is certainly stronger. Since this is a terrarium and doesn't have a lot of pressure I used extruded acrylic. For an aquarium this size I would use thicker cast acrylic.

I like your design, thanks for sharing. I have six sheets of used plexiglass (I got them for free!) that I have plans to make a vivarium but I don't have a cutter. The sheets are very thick so I am using a circular saw. The dimensions of the sheets are all 2'x3' and am considering making a tall square instead of a wide setup. I have enough large clamps to hold it while I superglue the pieces. I have a limited budget but I think I have enough material on hand to complete it.

Sounds super fun! I would use plastic cement instead of superglue. Superglue with cause the plexiglass to get cloudy because of the fumes in produces while curing. Plastic cement has a much stronger and water tight bond than superglue. Enjoy your project! GOOD LUCK!

@@christensonaquatics4051hello! I have plexiglass as well. (I'm working on a reptile enclosure) I bought caulk, do you think I can use caulk to seal and glue it together? I just read somewhere that it actually wouldn't stick very well.. so I may have to return it. What are your thoughts? And thank you for this information and video!!

@@ChickenScratch-Feathers I don't think caulk will seal very well, it might hold for a little bit. However, over time the caulk seperates from the plexi-glass. The best method is plasic cement, it will create a perminate bond and be water tight if you get good contact between the piecies.

Okay, thank you for that information! Looks like I'm buying some plastic cement then! Thank you! @@christensonaquatics4051

About 30-40 USD. A hardware store will have sheets of acrylic for a decent price.

Can you make a build like this very large without it falling apart? I want to build a really large (like 1500 square inches large) "tank" style enclosure for my hamster since there aren’t really good enough options on the market right now

You certainly could! I would use thinker acrylic and really make sure the seams and joints are tight and square.
