A puzzle box is a box that can only be opened by solving a puzzle…and a dice vault is a box that holds your dice. We thought it would be awesome to combine the two into the Ultimate Puzzle Box Dice Vault, and turn the 'Vault' part into something real! This box is made from solid bocote and it automatically locks when you close it. It doesn't open unless you know the secret trick, so your dice are protected from those tainted hands that who will do anything to curse your next roll. :) The silver dragon adorning the box pays homage to our favorite game, Dungeons and Dragons (or Game of Thrones, if you're so inclined).
There are some amazing Dice Vault designs online and we got super inspired to make one ourselves. We also did a lot of research into how to make a magnetic puzzle box, and here are some of the things we found that helped us out:

If you make one, please send us some pictures! We'd love to check it out.

I think I can speak for all of us here... we want this!
Instead of using the dragon, it would be really cool to make a ring, with a magnet in it so only the person wearing the ring can unlock the box.

Now I want to make the dice box the tresor at the end of a campaign. The player are all happy to finally get a hand on the big tresor I promised them and get surprised and upset when they can't get it open. Only to find out after a little reaserch that the ring one of them obtained in a minor quest long time ago is the key to it. Pretty sure they would lost their mind lmaoo

Magnetic pole field😀😀😀
AWESOME idea!! How do you make sure the magnets holding the box together aren't too strong and prevent the box from opening when you use the dragon?
@WickedMakers
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The depth of the hole where the magnet sits on the lid can be adjusted to account for the strength of the magnet. Stronger magnet = shallow hole so there’s more wood in between.

Great video! I have next to no real wood working skills, but can get by.. how would you suggest routing out the guides and the main pocket that the dice sit in without a router? I'd love to make one of these but without the puzzle lock (just snap together with the magnets). Anyone's help is much appreciated ! I only have a drill, a couple chisels and some saws really.. but I can of course purchase a few items if need be. Thanks again!
@WickedMakers

Without a router it’ll be tricky to do it with any kind of precision but it’s technically possible with chisels. 😀 Look up how use a chisel to make a “router plane” which you can use to hollow out a space.
