One of our favorite films is Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" which is a perfect blend of spooky Halloween and Christmas spirit. In Halloween Town, they have this great countdown clock which counts down the days until Halloween. What a perfect Halloween DIY project!
In addition to showing how easy this DIY Halloween prop is to make, we've created plans and templates so that you can follow along with the build, whether you're using cardboard, foam, wood, or whatever, you should be able to grab the plans and make your own! If you're looking for a fun weekend project to upgrade your Halloween (or Christmas!) decorations, this DIY project will be a lot of fun.

Cosplay trick: googly eyes work really well for rivets and they have a lower profile and a larger range of sizes

I prefer using document brads. Just have to snip off the tines.
“There’s only 365 days left till next Halloween” “THREE SIXTY FOUR!”
When glueing up wood, painters tape or masking tape works as a great makeshift clamp. Quick and easy and holds stronger than you think. Love the box though!!!

I concur, but I've been using magnetic corner jigs these days because sometimes tape slips. :)
Really cool idea for those of us that count down until Halloween! Wishing you the best from Distortions!

I actually liked the messy "Days till Halloween" paint job.

Great job guys! That turned out awesome. Fantastic idea to use those sticky Pearl's, we've seen people use googly eyes for rivets too. Hope you had a wonderful Halloween!

Thanks! Yeah we try our best to show it in a way so you can make it as well. You definitely should! Working on the plans today. 😄
Awesome tutorial. Just completed my countdown clock for next year's Halloween decorations. Used thin plywood for the base and the clock. Took a long time to cut as I only had a utility knife and hacksaw to work with. I connected the wreath to the base by screwing some 2x3s into the back of the base and screwed/glued a piece of plywood from the back of the base to the back of the clock. I also added a string of purple dollar store LED lights to the wreath. Love how it turned out. This was a super fun project to do. You guys rock!!! 🎃🙂
They also make a hammered metal spray which really turns out well.

Oh that would have worked great!
This is awesome! Tip for painting with stencils or painters tape: once you have your sticky stencil or painters tape down paint a light coat of your base color before you paint the color you want you letters or lines, this will keep your added color from leaking under the tape or stencil

That is a great tip! Thank you!
Oh my gosh! I absolutely adore this! I might be able to use my Cricut Maker to cut the pieces from balsa wood!🤩
One and a half month 'till Christmas! My classmates already sang Christmas songs last Friday. In the middle of the phisics class! (Don't worry, the teacher joined them😁)
I LOVE THIS, FINDING SO MANY OLD VIDEOS AND THAT MAKES ME HAPPY

I’m sad Halloween is over too! 😫 I’m out of town for a month, so I didn’t even get to decorate this year. Great project to incorporate Halloween and Christmas, which I will also be out of town for. I love that you guys tell us what you tried but didn’t really work out so well. So many channels cut out their failures. Content creators usually have better skills and equipment than us normal folks, so you already have a big advantage. I would have tried to use wood glue and wondering why I was having such a difficult time with the project. I just have one comment: it looked like the bat wing hands on the calendar clock were put on such that when close together, the bottoms of the wings are facing the same direction. I would have put them on facing different directions close together, but when they were six months apart, it would look like an outstretched, but mutated (two different wing sizes), bat.

Thanks guys. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this kinda make before. I’ve got a magic and illusion channel and I’ve struggled with making anything to link Christmas and Halloween but this is a great idea!
This is our favorite movie in this house! Came out great! #Stippling

I’m late to the party. It turned out great but I think I wouldn’t have touched up there letters. They looked really cool with the jagged “mess up”.

We need tons more Nightmare before Christmas props and stuff from you guys would love to see it
If you take a small drop of super glue you can align it up that way so it stays to form. Just a suggestion. 😜 love the clock idea.
Cool idea! Very jealous of your CNC machine! To help assemble the box next time, you could leave gaps in the wood clue for some quick setting CA glue to act as clamps while the wood glue sets up for a more permanent hold!
since the insides are not seen and you have plenty of room, my tip is to glue cardboard inside each corner. This gives lots of surface area to stick and strength. The rhinestones look good as rivets- another source re googly eyes. This project looks pretty good.
I absolutely love this design. That's my favorite movie. I'm going to have to create this for my collection
This is really neat! Love it. 🧡🖤❤️💚 it would be so cool if you could save the patterns in stl so it could be done with a 3d printer. The possiblities are endless. 🕷🕸🎁🌲

Great work and great ideas ! For the clock hands, as they are bat wings, the small hand should have the points in the up position like the large hand. It will make it really look like bat wings.
The paint job on this is absolutely perfect.

I know this video is a year old and you might know this by now, but the stencil bleed issue can be solved by painting either a coat of a clear matte sealant or the background color on first and letting it dry before painting your lettering color. The first coat will bleed and plug any gaps, but won't show. With the gaps sealed with something that won't show, your lettering layers won't bleed and should look crisp. If you have any issues peeling your stencil without lettering peeling you can run a quick outline around the lettering with a craft knife. Easy peasy quick crisp letters without too much extra work!
you 2 make the perfect couple
It looks just like it, nice job yall!!
Great Project! What an awesome paint work you did!
I'm thinking of making one of these come Nov. 1. It'll be placed top shelf and center in my Halloween 365 craft studio!
I may have to do this project, but make it out of pallet wood. I'd use thin plywood for the face and back, then hide the nails with the round rivet heads.
Now here's something I need in my tiny house! 😍 🖤🦇
Subscribed!! Omg I'm soooo making this for my NBC Coffee Bar!! 🧡🖤🎃

My fav, nightmare woohoo!!! You guys rock, love this video
Awesomeness!!! Great video, very inspiring plus I too learned new art terminology.
Im new to the channel. So you know this by now hopefully. Prime the wood with acrylic paint before spray painting. A light sanding will smooth out brush strokes. The spray paint will not soak into the wood, and give a cleaner finish. Paint fills in the imperfections. I like leaving some areas raw and un sanded for added effect. If I was destitute I would buy one of your shirts, but my light bill is more important. I accept donations. Thanks for the insperation.

For the rivets, googly eyes work well too! But whatever you end up using, putting the rivets on *before* the paint makes them stick better and you can also just spray paint everything with the base coat instead of spray painting them separately. :)

Great idea! A lot better than my paper chain countdown :-)
Looks awesome
omgosh this is so awesome!!!! I love it🎄🎃♥
I am surprised you guys don’t have a Silhouette machine to cut out your letters and stencils. It would make it so much easier! Also when you put the stencil down you go over it with the white paint (the base paint) and let that dry before painting the color for the letters. That way it seals the stencil and you won’t have the bleeding. I want to decorate my yard for Halloween and Christmas by doing a Nightmare Before Christmas theme. This clock would be perfect!
nightmare before Christmas is my favorite movie can you make at least one more. love your videos
That looks Great Guys 👍 😁

Turned out great! Next time after you put your stencil on hit it again with the base color, let dry and then use the black. This should help with the paint bleeding.
@WickedMakers

Ahhh yes, good call! 😄
TIP: When using a stencil (as you did) first paint the letters or numbers the same color as the background. This will seal the stencil and prevent your final color from leaking around the stencil. Then you can paint using your final color...

Tim Burton didn’t create the art work for the movie Nightmare Before Christmas. In fact, he had very little to do with the movie. His involvement was so little, that he asked Disney not to put his name on the movie.
