I’ve been doing Stainglass for a while and I am going to give this a try because it definitely looks like it is far less time involved. You were right about being able to find those green glass vases anywhere.… Garage sales, Goodwill, Salvation Army your Grandmother’s house LOL. Same with picture frames… You can find an ugly picture, but the frame is nice and purchase it for a little to nothing and as you demonstrated in the Grinch video, you painted the frame Red, which I have done for mini art projects. I have found if I use spray paint… Usually Rustoleum, I get a better finish on the frame, and if I use brushstrokes. But again it’s relative to your personal taste. I truly loved what you have done here and I love Christmas trees… I have fun memories as a child with Christmas trees being in our home. My mother and I both were allergic to Christmas trees so they were not allowed to stay in our house for very long, but my mother made a big deal about decorating it and letting us children be involved in the process. We had the old fashion bubble lights as well. Sometimes our cousins came over and we made a, big family gathering project or decorating the tree along with multiple pots of soups and homemade cinnamon rolls, and even my grandparents would come up so I associate the Christmas tree with fond memories. I would like to ask a question about the resin… Do you have to be careful of the little ornaments you put on the tree because the materials are made of may melt or liquify in anyway? I hope I worded my question well enough for you to understand what I am asking. Thank you for putting this on KZread and I’m sure many people are going to give this a try. What a beautiful gift this will make for anyone as well as our own home. Also, we always have scrap pieces left over from doing Stainglass and this would be a lovely way to use up those scrap pieces. You can always find scrap pieces on the Internet very cheaply as well. If you don’t have any of your own. Another thought I had was have you tried making a wreath instead of a tree shape? Hi Vickie It was so nice to hear your story. I too have many fond Christmas memories especially involving family. Yes I am starting to realize spray painting is so much easier then painting. I hate painting and it always takes me so many coats to cover properly. I have always given a lot of credit to stained glass artists because of the exact measurements and time co that it must take to finish a project. So resin will not melt or dissolve anything that I know of. The only thing you have to worry about is the colors running especially with red. I now use the krylon an tamiya spray paints to color glass if i need to and they are all safe if dry. So this video I did 2 years ago and the only thing I do different now that i do not show except in my more recent videos is that I am tumbling glass in a rock tumbler ( a small one) for 1 hour to take the sharp edges off. It works wonderful. It works grate for those little shards of stained glass also. At the end of this I will give you a link to a wreath video I did. Also we have a facebook group that everyone displays their work. So many ideas and a great place to ask questions. Everyone is so helpful. Not sure if you know by this time but if you let the resin set so all the bubbles come up then pop, for like if you have 30 min working time then let set for 20 mins then you can pour. It also helps the resin when it gets thicker before you pour. Less run off when it gets thicker. also you have to scrap the sides of your cups and bottom when stirring resin. Gorgeous work.

I really appreciate you telling us the pros and cons of these projects… Demonstrating the “mistakes “which is relative in my opinion because I did not initially see your mistake on the first tree so I had to back up the video and look at it again, and then I saw what you were talking about. it helps those of us who are trying to do this for the first time to watch for things like that, but anybody looking at a tree in nature, we’ll see they are not perfect. I always say which I learned is from an art instructor, we are our worst critic, so I thought I was going to say anything to you besides beautiful BEAUTIFUL Art work, try not to be too critical of your artwork. I have really love ❤what you’ve done.

Like most art, be it painting, music, sculpture, the artist knows exactly where the mistakes are. We seem to zoom in on those rather than the whole piece lol. I love your Christmas trees. I first became aware of this art four years ago. I thought it was all glass melted in a kiln. NowI want to try this myself.Thank you for the detailed process shown here.

@@crazyglasslady I am a lifelong musician..but I dabble in watercolors, drawing, woodworking. I just love art in all its forms. But music is my burning passion. I just moved into a new house. It will take me till the end of Spring to get all settled. One great thing is that I now have a three car garage. And I going to use my old HUGE desk for a workstation. I do want to try this. I know there are so many things I have gotten rid of over the years I wish I had now.LOL So you have to start looking for them at garage sales. LOL

Very creative! I love it! I use ArtResin which is Non-toxic. Safe for home use when used in a well ventilated area. No VOCs. No BPA. No fumes. Non-flammable. Certified food safe. I prefer that brand so I don't have to wear a ventilator. Just yesterday I tried another brand that is listed as non-toxic and I will never use it again......I had to wear a mask and open windows because of the fumes. Not all epoxy resins are created equal.....lesson learned.

Thanks for sharing! Yes I like the safety of art resin. i still wear a respirator most of the time. I have sensitive sinuses and also I use the kitchen torch. Which creates smoke sometimes and I dont think its safe to inhale.

@@crazyglasslady I also have sensitive sinuses and allergies. ArtResin doesn't have an odor.....no VOCs, no Fumes, etc. I also use a torch and I have never had it smoke. ArtResin has certification of it's non-toxicity and safety, including food safe. You might want to check it out. I just tried another brand a couple days ago that is suppose to be non-toxic, but realized that it is LOW VOCs and low fumes, not NO VOCs and no fumes. It was so bad I had to put on a mask and open open the window. And it was worse when I used the torch. The odor was still there when the projects were done. I will have to trash the resin because I don't feel safe using it even though they claim it to be non-toxic. Not all resins are created equal. From now on I will only use ArtResin. Be careful and stay safe.

I do use art resin I talk about it in all my videos but unfortunately it does have a smell my husband and I both smell it. When he comes home from work he can tell that I have used resin that day because he can smell it. But so far I feel this is the best resin to use it is easy to work with and very safe if used properly.

@@crazyglasslady Interesting. I'm VERY senstive to smell and have never smelled anything with ArtResin, only with the other brand I used the other day. But it doesn't matter, I think we should all use what works best for us, and everyone is different 😊

I love your ideas and appreciate the detailed videos. In one video you added a piece of glass that you cut from a dish into a tumbler. I thought this was not possible because this type of glass was to fragile and would come out crushed? Thank you for your time.

Thank you, most glass will tumble fine some will break into smaller pieces that is true. The more delicate and thinner the glass is the better the chance of breaking. But you can always use the smaller pieces for something.

Very nice instructions...I found this while doing a search for sea glass. Just came back from a beach and found quite a lot of green. Can I ask what you use for the tree trunks?

Thank you! No I do not sell anything. I either hang it on a wall in my house or give them away. Maybe someday. I think i would just be too stressed out having to make everything perfect, and then shipping stuff. It is really just a hobby. Started with just tumbled glass then evolved into all sorts of glass art. I am still learning. Thanks for watching. Decided to start the channel so other could learn with me.

I think they are actually the artificial snow that you buy in a little bag at Dollar tree around Christmas.

I'm not sure what you are asking . I lay the broken glass on the glass in the frame.

Love these!..So the resin coats the sharp edges of the broken vase and there's no risk of getting cut after it's cured? Amazing!

I noticed you put the angel and tree trunk on last, do they just stick automatically? What did you use here for the tree trunk? It looks like a metal bracelet cut into a section? Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I’m going to try this this year for Christmas gifts.

You are right the trunk on both of them are bracelet pieces but I did not have to cut them they were held together on the inside by elastic and I just had to cut the elastic. Yes they just stick once the resin has set anything you put in is stuck. I pick up jewelry at garage sales and thrift stores.

Wow! These are amazing! Does this resin yellow over time? I haven’t worked with resin and I’ve read that a lot if them yellow with time.

Thank you! I have only been working with resin now for about 1 year. have tried many different resins , none of mine have yellowed yet. I have heard of resin yellowing. When my total boat resin runs out I am going to start using resins that say they are voc free ( dangerous fumes) Which is why I use a respirator. One of the new ones I am going to try is called Art resin which boasts that it never yellows.Very expensive though. So we will see over time.

@@jayelleart Yes i wondered about that. I see all these people using Art Resin, that's the brand name and they are not wearing respirators, weird. Even the Art resin site has tons of videos and no one wears a respirator.

Very beautiful! Do you have a way to know how much resin for each project? and it seems like you can put resin over dry resin, correct?

So the resin I have been using is the brand name Art resin they actually have a web site artresin.com and they have a calculator on it for the size canvas you are using .I always mix up more because its not just a canvas or a piece of glass. I always have crushed glass or something else to cover but it is a good reference to start with. Also Im not sure if it accounts for the sides of the canvas which I like covered. Yes you can put resin over dry resin which I did in this project. And if you make a mistake and get some residue in it and have to sand it off you can just cover again with resin. But when you are pouring resin over it you have to cover the entire project for the most part or you will be able to see where it stops and starts.

Yes I pour it over the glass first ,that will hold it all in place when it dries. I always do that first then put around the perimeter and push it up to the sides.

I have a question. Wondering if you ever had this happen to any of your pieces with resin. After my piece was dry, it looked like there were lines in the resin.

Well when I first started using resin all I had was a heat gun. Had seen several people using the kitchen torch but was nervous about trying one. Now that I have one I love it. So you will see me in the older videos with the heat gun and the newer ones with the kitchen torch. The advantage to using the kitchen torch is it heats the resin to remove the bubbles without blowing the glass around or blowing the resin around. Also there are no cords involved.

So I do not use silicone any more. It is too messy and the fumes are not good for you. I use regular Elmer's glue. I only use silicone now for heavy mirrors. So the answer is no resin will not cover up silicone but can be removed with a razor . Resin will also not cover the regular Elmer's glue either but if that leaks out onto the glass it is much easier to get off with a razor. the only glue I have found that resin will hide is the clear Elmer's glue. I did use that for a while but I find that its thinner messier and takes longer to dry then the regular Elmer's glue. I hope that helps.

@@donnamerino90 it may be easier if you get the glass ready lay down your first layer then drizzle some resin on it then put your second layer of glass on sometimes when there’s resin already there the resin will help hold the glass in place. Good luck. I know it can get frustrating sometimes.

Can you do a crushed glass tree on glass using mod podge instead of resin?

You would have to take the glass out of the frame and put it up on cups then see what it looks like when it dries. I wouldnt think it would be clear like resin. Then put it back in the frame and glue the glass to the frame.

So for the first tree I believe I used tube confetti which I got at Dollar tree and for the second tree I believe I used a regular white glitter.
