How to Make a Carolina Rig for Surf Fishing

This video is a tutorial on how to make a Carolina rig (how to make a C rig) for surf fishing. I go over a couple specific alterations I like to make specifically for surf fishing I’m so cal. But with this set up, you should be ready to start catching fish in the surf in no time.
For reference on rod and reel, I use this rod as well as sometimes a penn pursuit 3 4000 series combo (7 footer).
Here’s the link for all the gear and tackle I use for making a Carolina rig... scroll to the bottom for the light tackle section: surffishingsocalsd.com/gear-a...

    I think the larger hole bead is genius for us old eyed anglers! Setting up can be a task with those small beads!

    Thanks bro. I just started surf fishing and this was super useful. I was a mountain boy fresh water fishing and rarely used this rig so this helped a lot

    I know that knot as the Ultimate Knot. Excellent tutorial. Have you tried a Texas Rig? I use a hi/low rig for surf but will try the C-rig.

    I’ve actually never tried either in the surf. I love the c rig but maybe I should give some other rigs a shot.

    Very well presented. Simple and straightforward. Just trying to get going surf fishing. What plastic baits and/or live/dead baits do you use on this set up Nick? ... TIA

    Nice! On the Carolina rig, I like to use sand crabs and mussel meat primarily. When I throw plastics it’s either on a jighead or a Texas rig and for those I have this article: surffishingsocalsd.com/best-swimbaits-for-surf-fishing/

    Hey, do you find that your leader sometimes wraps around the mainline, or gets a bit tangled on sinker/swivel, when you cast far? If so, any solutions?

    I have found that. I can’t say I have any solutions for that but usually I just replace it as soon as I see that

    @@surffishinginsocal, so I went out today and fished a Carolina with 1.5oz egg and about a 5' 10lb fluoro leader. No issues with the leader getting wrapped! Yay. Perhaps my previous issue were from using 15lb mono for a leader (it's the lowest I had at the time). Anyway, I'm stoked to resolve the issue because I love the feel the Carolina affords. Thanks for your help, brother :-)

    Nick, those barrel swivels can't be 7s. I ordered the 7s you linked to on Amazon and they are tiny, only 11 mm long. The ones you tie to seem to be double that.

    @surffishinginsocal

    Paul, thanks for pointing that out. So I went ahead and looked into it. The swivel used in the video was a different brand than the one I linked to. Turns out the length of a size 7 swivel for “jumping fish” barrel swivels is around 3/4” while the “dr fish” swivels are smaller (just under 1/2”). They’ll still be plenty fine either way, but to get swivels the same size as the one in the video, you’ll want size #2 or #1

    @@surffishinginsocal you must be doing the imp clinch perfectly, especially having so many turns. Its a great one but that extra pass through 2nd loop creates extra stress points unless done right.
