How to make a Cabochon (ring) Setting - Estona metalsmithing Tutorials
In this video I will show you how you can make a cabochon setting for a ring. You'll learn how to make the setting yourself and off course how you can set the stone. You will learn a lot of tips and tricks and can watch me making the setting step by step.
If you want to start metalsmithing yourself but don't know where you to get your tools, feel free to check out the companies listed below. They would love to help you out. And the best part? They have provided some great discount codes for my subscribers.
To end up, I would like to point out that all my videos are and will remain free. In return, it would be awesome if you could take the time to share my channel on your socials or with your metalsmithing friends. That's all. I think it's a privilege to create a community of people doing what I love most. So thank you so much for your support, it means the world to me.
Have a wonderful day,
Bregje

KZread, you need a "LOVE" button! This is so much better than the usual bezel class. Most teachers tell you to use fine silver of 28g (.321 mm thick), or maybe 26g (.4mm) bezel "wire"; these are way too thin and soft to make a strong and substantial bezel. And it looks so much better when it is thicker. Except for very thin, light materials - like delicate seashells, sterling, and 24g/.5mm (or thicker) are for me from now on! Oh, one more tip from me, whenever I use a transparent stone, inside the bezel setting, I put a thin (30g/ 0.25mm) shim of highly polished fine silver sheet or Argentium sheet, as they do not tarnish. Sterling will tarnish inside the ring setting eventually and there is no way to clean it. I order this sheet material for this job only and it can be cut with shears or disc cutter. This makes no customers asking for a clean-up or fix; which would be very difficult: get the stone out, clean and re-polish the setting inside, and reset the stone: no thank you! Unless the setting is completely sealed with a sealant, dirt, water, and oxidation WILL sneak in over a period of time. I love swapping tips! Thanks so much again.

Your Calipers pronunciation is correct! Awesome video, Thank you
I like your videos!
Thank you for a wonderful tutorial … I used your steps to create my first “chunky” bezel from 22g silver sheet with a round rose cut amethyst cabochon for a wide band ring. It turned out even better than I expected due to your precise, easy to understand directions. Again, thank you!

Since you asked, the English pronounciation in the US for “solder” is “sotter” the “l” is silent …or like hotter with an s. Thank you for another great tute! Now if only I were brave enough 😉

Oh, I didn't know! Thanks!! I am going to look up to see if the same goes for England. This is going to be a hard one to get out of my system, haha. And just go for it! It's way to fun not to try.
Very good tutorial, clear concise and to the point. No need to apologize for your english, you speak better english than my american friends and I.
Verry good works
Very helpful
Beautiful work and I love your accent. I enjoy jewelry making so much, so I will never stop, but it is so disheartening when you try to sell, and know how much love and time and hard work you put into it, and then people won’t even pay you enough for the piece to pay for the raw materials. Love the dental floss trick!

Thank you for your wonderful tutorials. After a 15 year pause of silversmithing, your tutorials are so helpful..
great instructor!
I just wanted to chime in and say your English is incredible. As a technical writer I write manufacturing instructions for a living, and describing the orientation of an assembly and how you use a tool on it is very frustrating for me. Anymore I just use a picture. And as an American anyone who speaks more than one language impresses me xD. You make wonderful videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! And yes, the measuring tool you use is called calipers here too :)
