The amount of time and energy it would take someone to make 5K per month with any type of consistency at .5/1 NLH in 2021 online would be mind numbingly painful compared to any other monetary pursuit. Bordering on insanity.

Hand 1: In my experience, fish check behind their show down value type hands when the flush comes in, including maybe even a weak king, especially a player with an AF of 1 as noted at the start - not saying the river check is not best, but worth considering I would say

When the frontdoor flush comes in, maybe. But the backdoor flush is way more sneaky and easy to underestimate. On this board it's important to respect JXdd especially with the turn action, but a weak player doesn't understand that. He probably thinks you have just a jack, and doesn't understand you can have diamonds as well.

The 89o hand is nuts! I am also just starting to do well at NL100 and I do agree that playing 4 bet pots and 3 bet pots is the core of doing well at these stakes. 89o is a fairly loose 4 bet and I would not ever do it. Though, I do not make 5k a month so what do I know. I think the reason why this works so well is that most regs play best at 100 bb. I myself feel lost at what to do in 200 bb stacks. Also the spot is partly about mind games where Nathan is trying to get in a big pot with the fish. So all you have to do is know how to play optimally in 4 bet pots and at weird stack depths to crush nl100 regs I guess.

Hi Nathan, I figured I owe you some thanks. Way back in time when I was totally obsessed with Poker, I read your books, studied your videos among many others and transformed myself from being a break even player to a moderately successful winner playing ten low limit tables (that was my comfort zone). I lived and breathed Poker (not just for the money) and then one day I just woke up and never wanted to play again. I noticed that was a trend when I was working, I had to master a subject but when I had, the challenge was gone. I wonder if any of your fans have similar stories? I still enjoy your videos and hope one day they might kickstart me into playing again. Thankyou.

I have had similar feelings lately, and mostly after some winning sessions where I feel it was not a challenge. But the way I have addressed this (or at least trying to) is by reminding myself that a winning session is a reflection of the last study session or readings i've gone through. I also have been using PokerTracker4 the last couple weeks to continuously analyze my winning AND losing sessions for improvements. For example, even after a winning session, I will view my stats (VPIP, PFR, ...) to see if I was being too loose or anything. And then I also check to see if maybe I was c-betting the flop too much or not as often, and same thing for the turn and river streets as well. And even in a winning session, you are likely to have some leaks (i.e. losing more money from MP or SB or something; or folding to c-bets more than usual when you should have just floated etc.) These are leaks I have found for myself, so just a few examples from my experience, hopefully that helps. (note: I am more so a home game poker player with friends and family, and am just passing the time during COVID playing online poker. But playing online poker has made me a better player by analyzing stats and my playing habits street by street; and I plan on using these tips for future home games and/or at a casino.) EDIT: Daniel Negreanu said something in a video before (but I cannot find it right now) - something along the lines of poker being an ever-evolving game, so the moment you think you've "figured it out" or "feel like you know everything" is the moment you start to become an exploitable player or go down the road of a losing player. (something like that)

I learned from you a lot and was able to beat the game when I was putting in work in 2016-17. It took me like 3-4 months to start crushing from 2nl, all the way to 25nl. Then life took over and I stopped playing except for occasionally. Returning back now, even to the previously thought of softer fields like ignition and bol, I cant win at all. I can put mad volume but still -bb/100 hands at this point. The game has gotten so tough at these lower levels its suffocating to be honest. I wanted to grind back up slowly from 10nl and started to revisit my notes and previous study material but the games are practically bullet-proof. One mistake takes the whole session down and managing tilt has become paramount. When I say tilt, Im not the average fish, Ive played millions of hands but for example, 5 betting QQ into a reg who you know is playing at the top of his range is basically tilting away your money. Essentially, the margin for error is non existent. Meanwhile, live games at card houses are easy money for me just playing TAG.

It would have interested me more to see how you would have played the river if you had not made the flush. Your fish would have beaten you with a weak king.. I think the point is that a reg who will call a 30% pot bet will also call a 50% pot bet. The main consideration of the villain is not the cost on this round. It is the expectation that he is going to face a monster bet on the river (often an all-in with very deep stacks) and his decision there will be a nightmare. Thus, The 30% pot bet is just as effective a bluff as a larger bet size, and means you will lose less if the villain calls (at which point you should probably give up on the river: he has often already steeled himself to make the big river call).

The rec will often have trash hands, but KJ and A10 are certainly in his range. These players also love smooth calling with big pairs. Heads up against the reg, you want to have this 4 bet bluff in your arsenal.

I'm not sure about this one. With this rec player it's been pretty obvious that he hit the king on the turn. So the pot odds were maybe 33% and with 9 outs to the flush and 2 outs to the boat we had about 22% chance to hit and win. Is it really a good play? I guess I would have fold on the turn. I am confussed bro. Maybe I should gamble more?

Against that EXACT hand you are right. Against the entire range... - not at all. And if u think that guy, who minclicks K3o on a 22J Flop only has Kx on turn, when he pots it, you are defently overfolding

  • @FefeLeVrai

    @FefeLeVrai

    3 жыл бұрын

Against the guy's exact hand it's a massively winning call because of implied odds. You have 25% equity, your outs are any jack and any diamond. So in terms of direct odds it's a slightly losing call since you needs 33%. But the implied odds are through the roof in your favor. If you river a jack or a flush the fish is never folding a king, and you're stacking him every time. Winning at poker isn't about gaining a few % EV on 30bb pots. It's about stacking people.

I guess you all are right. I am definitely not an expert and will not defend this rec's player play, especially on the river. He should have check back and simply not loose so much. But ask yourself this question - do you always fold top pair to a river overbet when there are 3 cards in the same suit on the board while you have a blocker in your hand? That is a question ;) BTW just checked GTO solver and K3o is 87% call/13% 3bet from BB vs SB rfi in a 8max cash game. Have a good day all and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

so, to win 5k at 100nl you need a 10bbwr if you play 50k hands, (a reasonable volume, not so reasonable wr)or play 166k hands with a 3bbwr,(a reasonable wr, not so reasonable volume) but if you open a hand that is probably a fold with the rake structure of 100nl, and then 4bet the absolute bottom of your range, you might need to play a million hands to win after rakeback or something.

You didn’t really say how to make 5K a month. To make 5K a month with $1 blinds you have to win 5000 big blinds. If you can win 5 BB/100 hands, that means it would take 100,000 hands a month. If you play 60 hands / hour, you need 1666 hours. That means you need 55 hours a day very day for a month. Not sure that’s possible. So you need to be able to generate that win rate over multiple tables. So if you can win 5 Bb/100 and play ten table now that becomes a more doable 5.5 hours a day, assuming you take no days off. But I think even Black Rain would concede a 5 Bb win rate is pretty ambitious for most people watching his channel.

How to loose 5k in a month, the play against the regular is about as bad as it gets. Dont try to copy this strategy! You take the absolut buttom of your opening range and 4bet it deep oop. Sizing on flop is too large if you want to bet your range here, if you want a check back range it could be okay, 98 should mainly check. OTT you talk about how much AK, AQ miss and that QQ and AA start hating life.. you are the player who has more of these combos and way less 99 and likely JJ also. So on this turn you want to check a lot! Randomly barreling off makes zero sense here, you get protection vs missed overcards but you isolate yourself only vs better hands. It is actually difficult to play this hand any worse. To be marketing it as: „outplaying the reg with the worse hand pre“ is funny and something recreationals love to do all the time. You won the hand but apart from jamming pre its tough to loose more money on average with this hand

Your entire comment can be summarized by "you're not playing GTO". Yeah. He just 4bet 89off lol. I think he knows that. Also opponent can fold a better hand like TT or QQ. So saying betting turn is isolating himself against better hands is simply not true. He also blocks 99, so you can't say he should check turn because opponent can have 99.

I don't think 98o is a good hand to 4-bet bluff with. I suppose just having a bit higher 4-bet bluff frequency in general will beat most populations of players as they tend to give it a lot of respect. I have also noticed that around 200BBs+, players are reluctant to stack off without the nuts and will fold more. I think It's better to at least be suited when making plays like this, because you risk accidently doing it too much where opponents start 5-betting you or just calling all the way down with premiums. At least for me, I have a selection of hands that I consider conditional bluffing hands, and anything that falls out of that range I don't use them to bluff. Perhaps this is limiting, but it prevents me from over-adjusting which can be easy to do with off suit holdings. The problem I see with this adjustment is that you have to be certain that your opponent knows that you opened looser than usual due to the player in the big blind, but he may have just been 3-betting with his standard 3-betting range or looking at your PFR stat.
