How To: Macan Timing Bolt Replacement Guide

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Save Thousands! Flat 6 Motorsports offers a Porsche Factory approved solution to a leaking timing cover on the 95B.1 Macan V6 models (S/GTS/Turbo). Majority of leaks come from these two bolts that break over time. We recommend inspecting the source of the leak before ordering.

Excellent video! One thing I'd add, as I've performed this myself, is when installing the new screw, stuff a wad of paper shop towel below where it threads in, so it will catch the screw just in case you drop it while installing. It's very tight, and you're working only by feel with just your fingertips, so it can easily be dropped, especially if it's oily. Without the towel to catch it, good luck finding it!

Thank you! My 2015 with 130K miles still had the original bolts and the one on the drivers side was indeed snapped. Appreciate the excellent video, make it pretty easy to do.

Great vid. I used curved dental hemostats to grab the broken piece and unscrew it out the back on the driver side. They lock on to the small piece that’s left to allow grip on a very small bolt end

Great Video and helped me make the decision to replace my bolts on GTS. purchased bolts from Flat 6 with great instructions ...Well Done - i did use my flexible claw pick up tool to grab the long air box bolts instead of my needle nose, the other suggestion is to use the long extension torx bit to turn the bolt a to line up with the slot before turning the bolt. it made it a little easer to see the slot compared to the needle nose - last but not least the wire harnerss clip in the front was a b...

how can you torque the new bolt to spec when you can barely fit a 1/4" socket to tighten the bolt?

4 bolt fix. NOT just 2. The driver side one next to air box (shown here) and the passenger side under the PCV valve hose (NOT shown here) are the tough ones. The reason why the 2 bolt fix sometimes doesn’t work is there’s another 2 that shears easily. And another opportunity for the dealer to pull engine.

Quico question, why are we changing these bolts. What were the symptoms that this fixed? Was your engine leaking oil or something ? What can this cause being broken ?

  • @Flat6Motorsports

Yes, you would only change these if you detect an oil leak. Porsche used aluminum bolts at the factory during a few years of production and they are known to crack/break and fail over time with engine use.

Porsche for a period of time required dealers to pull the engine out and replace all the bolts and reseal everything. Since, they have put guidance out to just replace these bolts.

I can't get the clips on the wiring harness offon the drivers side. It looks like they were already off in the video as it took no effort to unclip. Mine are stuck on super tight.

Wait till you read people (some that I’ve been ID as dealership mechanics) posting extremely abrasive stuff like if you can’t afford it don’t buy a Porsche and quoting the engine out thing and adding FUD about compromised seal even after the 2022 bulletin of the 2 bolt fix came out. I had a 997 that suffered an IMS disaster After engine swap the car was NEVER the same again
