Thanks for the info, I've been on a weight loss journey for 4 months now, and using basically the same idea. More veggies, little to no red meat, and whole grain only. Lost 26 lbs and start finding the energy to exercise everyday. Now , my weight is like a thermostat that I can control instead of it controlling me.

I started out a few weeks ago eating grilled veggies and never felt satiated but my wife was fine. Then we read the starch solution and I discovered how satisfied potatoes are - baked fries and mashed potatoes with no added fat with mushroom gravy. Keeps me full and satiated for many hours. Unless you're used to eating just fruit and vegetables or have different receptors you might try some starch like potatoes/rice. I used to think I need fat to be satiated like peanut butter/nuts.

After following the vegan diet religiously for 2 months, my weight dropped from 229 to 189 (30#, but still overweight), blood pressure from 130/82 to 109/70, cholesterol from 184/29/132 to 107/26/69 (total /HDL=good /LDL=bad ), triglycerides from 116 to 62, and my PSA from 1.7 (high for my age of 51 and I have a very strong family history of it) to 1.0. Good cholesterol is more of a relative number to your total cholesterol. Initially 29 good/184 total is 15% and improved to 26/107 which i

I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Lisle's lecture. He is truly a thought leader that will undoubtedly bring much needed change. My only concern is that unlike humans, dogs and cats are obligate carnivores and a biologically appropriate diet for humans is not going to be biologically appropriate for these two other species. I am a devoted vegan but do not impose what is best for me on my pets.

Cats cannot make their own taurine, that is why they are obligate carnivores. Commercial cat food has to add taurine due to the high heat and processing of the meat used. The same taurine that is added to cat food that contains meat is also added to cat food that is vegan. That is how cats can eat vegan. If you read the ingredient list on most commercial cat food the majority of protein comes from plants like corn and wheat gluten.

The vegan cat upsets me (and I am near-vegan myself). Feeding a species that is naturally a true carnivore vegan food is cruel and wrong, just as feeding cats commercial cat food that contains mainly grain is wrong. Their digestive tracts aren't made to digest a larger portion of grain and veggies than would be found in the stomach of their prey. Of course overweight pets are a huge problem... but the problem lies in the amount you feed, and feeding species-inappropriate isn't the solution.

Just got educated on eating cleaner and healthier. I was not aware about GMO's and traces of pesticided left on vegtables and fruits that are not organic. I am certainly going to do more research and so far, eating cleaner is benificial for mind and body. What I have found so far, is that the benifits are immediate and lasting. Farmers markets are a blessing especially the people behind the foods that are offered, which take pride in what they have available for the day. Thank you.

I've got to try this. Im having such a hard time doing portion control, its depressing. I get so hungry and after a couple of days I just BINGE on food. :( The fat issue is important too. I was thinking about the vegan wraps I eat out... The dressing has a lot of fat and sugar. That would bump the calories of that wrap to about a 400-500 hundred calorie wrap, without counting the nuts I put in it... damn

Horses over eat on their own natural food. I've got a few horses that over eat grass to the point of obesity and laminitis. If I let them, they would kill themselves with grass. These are horses that NEVER get any sort of concentrate or grain. During the summer, these horses must be kept up in a dirt pen and have their grass limited. This is very common in certain breeds of horses.

Well, we have a dilemma here. There's a local deli I go to. Between the counter and the door is a bowl of bread and butter up for grabs. I have watched people come in, grab some bread and butter. Order. Grab more bread/butter. Eat a HUGE sandwich. Maybe a cookie. And, on the way out, more bread and butter. The people who are doing this tend to be from a little to a lot overweight. Isn't overeating a small part of the cause? I eat bread too, but I'm not going for the bread and butter 3x

Not disputing this method of eating, choose carefully as it may not be for everyone. If you look very carefully during the end of the movie during the test results scene at time marker 1:25:00 clearly show a borderline high level of triglycerides. As it is said with any food intake modification for health reasons always test before and after to show it's results and question it even if the numbers are in the normal/abnormal range.

Cats need a high-protein, low-carb diet with adequate taurine, vitamin A (not carotenes), niacin, and vitamin D supplementation. Aside from the taurine, their protein requirement can be satisfied with high arginine proteins (like soy), with a high water content (as in tofu). It might not be happy with the arrangement, but cats can thrive given planning. Even the commercial manufacturers add synthetic taurine to their food (its lost in rendering/processing).

A lot less plants have to ''die'' for vegans because we eat the plants directly. Whereas meat eaters consume 10 to 15 times as many plants because this is the wasteful ratio of conversion from animal fodder to meat. For example, to produce 1 pound of meat, the animal has to eat 10 to 15 pounds of valuable plants. This is a terrible waste that humanity cannot afford. Furthermore, to produce a pound of beef 2,500 gallons of water are wasted and polluted. Besides, a lot of oil gets wasted .

people to lose weight, while others lose weight via a low fat, high carb diet. It has to do with satiety. I eat a serving of cheese or nuts and I feel satiated, whereas, if I eat the equivalent in bread, rice, or pasta, I'm starving 30 minutes later having never reached true satiety. I agree that it's about whole foods and calorie intake, although, I do think some foods process differently in different people's systems. Tell me about your fruit fast. It's interesting that some people become constipated on Atkins, while others don't. In my case, I INCREASED the fat and high density foods in my diet and lost weight. Additionally, I became more regular. I think this had to do with the fact that I also introduced way more veggies into my diet, as well as, the possibility that bread kills regularity for me. I think it's what is easiest for the person to handle. There are doctors who will tell you that a low carb, high protein/fat diet causes some

I'm a vegan (on and off) but I am suspicious of any all or nothing theory. No doubt a vegan diet is better, however, studies have shown that overweight people DO usually eat more, although they're often not aware of it because they don't compare themselves to others, and obese people definitely do. Weight and dietary health is a complex issue. It's not good to ignore other factors in favor of your favorite idea.

I get constipated when eating too much meat, so the rest of the calories must come from carbs or fat, right? I enjoy eating tubers, so thats a lot of carbs, so I cant be raising both carbs and fat, thus I try keep fat lower than my carb. I tried atkins, and I didnt go to the bathroom for almost a MONTH. a WHOLE MONTH. Didnt loose much weight, didnt gain much fat weight either. Went on a fruit fast, lost ten pounds. I think weightloss its about calories and whole foods. Not going low carb.
