Exercise is absolutely necessary for health, not necessarily for weight loss.

I'll give my perspective on exercise, as a 63 yr old (I'm sure most people here are much younger.) I've always struggled with weight, always worked out intensely. As I entered menopause, I backed off on the intense cardio. I got fat around my middle, and saw my blood pressure rise alarmingly. I felt like, I know I can deal with this naturally, I am not going down the road of blood pressure and diabetes meds. I returned to intense cardio 3 X week, and started walking a couple of miles on my off days, taking maybe2 days a week not exercising. BP came down to normal!! Also, many people struggling with weight deal with anxiety/depression. Exercise helps that also. I can tell you I lost the tire around my middle, but now I am back to being "hippy" the way I've always been, lol. But I've made peace with that, and thank God I can move, my bp is normal. Exercise will also help keep other values- liver, kidney, etc normal. So just like healthy eating is a lifestyle, exercise can go a long way to helping us maintain health as we age.

@@carolfuller4849 I can only speak to what worked for me, but Atkins 40 is what I used. They have all sorts of free information and tools on their website. Atkins 20 or Keto probably would have worked faster, but I felt like the 40 was easier to stick to long term. It took me about 18 months to lose the 85 lbs. then I gradually increased my carb intake to maintain.

I've lost 202 lbs. It was all diet. I do move more than I did, just because I'm able to be more active. When I was fat I did good to get 1k steps in a day. Now I get anywhere from 6k to 10k steps a day, depending on the day... without even trying. I wear a Galaxy smartwatch and it keeps track. If I go grocery shopping I get closer to 10k steps. If I've stayed home all day and just clean and do laundry it will be closer to the 6k steps. The more I lost, the more active I became. I don't enjoy exercising at all. I'd rather control what I put in my mouth.

There are many more methods like 14:10 , 12:12 , 15:9 etc you can choose according to your convenience. I hope I didn't make it hard to understand.

Very sensible. Pick a way of eating that is healthy and sustainable and works for you. I started eating low carb in May 2022 to reduce inflammation markers in my blood tests. I'm 63 and have ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia, and Rheumatoid Arthritis so working out consistently is not always possible and I definitely can't spend 2 hours in the gym even when I am consistent. I also reduced the amount of calories I was eating at the beginning because I wanted to lose weight, but I did not focus on that and only weighed myself once every month or two. I lost 62 lbs in one year and my inflammation markers are now normal. I eat low carb, healthy, minimally processed foods for the most part, but I still include dark chocolate or other treats occasionally. I sometimes have cheat days (holidays for example), but always go back to my low carb lifestyle. Before I changed my diet, I used to snack a lot and that doesn't happen anymore. I don't get hungry between meals like I used to. I may eventually try to lose another 25 lbs., but right now I'm concentrating on gradually increasing my activity and resistance training to improve my muscle strength so my body feels better.

I agree you don't have to exercise to lose weight. However when you exercise you become healthier. You are lubricating your joints and when you build muscle you burn fat while being sedentary. Meaning while you're sitting on the couch and not doing much those larger muscles help burn fat. I am a big promoter of eating right and exercise to get the full benefits of being healthy. In addition your building endurance when you exercise.

Exercise IS necessary to maintain muscle, which affects your resting metabolic rate. I had an RMR done last year and mine was 1,079 calories. That means that I need that many calories just to stay alive - essentially, maintain body processes. Really?! Some people eat that much in one meal! It is estimated, based on various studies, that a sedentary person uses only 50-100 more calories over the RMR. (If you think that unlikely, consider the calories burned walking 10,000 steps - about 300-400 calories. Sedentary people typically only take about 1/4 that many steps.) Simply put, doing only what I must during the day would only require, at most, another 100 calories to maintain my current weight. Okay, that means that without exercise, I can only eat about 1,179 calories. Ugh! Deprivation! Is it any wonder that even people who lose weight on a diet and simply increase calories to “maintenance” level, gain weight back? Without increasing exercise, especially with weights, muscle mass is not increased and there is minimal change in RMR, if any. I am 76. If I don’t exercise, not only must I resign myself to minimal food intake, I will lose muscle mass at an increasing rate which will even further lower my RMR. I have high school friends - my own age - who are too frail to walk without a walker. Some require a wheelchair. It’s a matter of both poor diet and lack of exercise! (They are members of a religious community and cannot control their diet, as I can.) So, if you really want to maintain health and mobility, EXERCISE! You don’t need a gym! Carry things…Move more…Dance! Enjoy moving…enjoy life!

Oh my gosh, I LOVE Magic Spoon cereal! It tastes just like the stuff we ate as kids, without all the junk. I have it every morning because I hurt too much (I have rheumatoid arthritis, which is why I do keto for its anti-inflammatory effects) to have to cook (it's also why I can't do a lot of exercise). I also eat a lot of Kaizen pastas, which are made from lupin flour. It's like eating real pasta again, too. They have a rice version, too, which makes a fantastic pilaf, too, so you can have a great side dish. It's insanely high in protein, so only eat the serving size or you'll be too stuffed! I boil the noodles for 3-4 minutes, instead of 7 like the package directions call for. I find 7 minutes makes it a bit too soggy. I have been doing keto off and on for the past 6 years, although the off times have been too long. The problem is other people living in my house instead of just me and my husband. If it was just us, like it's supposed to be at this stage of our lives (we're 59 and 60 years old), then it would be easy to stay keto. I did lose 60 pounds within the first 3 months, and I probably regained half of it, but I have not regained all and then some, like most diets lead to. That's because I eat keto as much as possible, except for when I can't.

Great video! The reasons I like to exercise and be more active in general are because exercise gives me "wiggle room" for making dietary mistakes, it ensures I will burn fat instead of muscle, and I simply feel better. I don't do anything extreme, just moderate exercise and activity, and that way I don't have to go extreme either way to get the results I want.

FAT DOESN’T TURN INTO MUSCLE!!! You loose the fat, especially on Keto &/or Carnivore. You are burning stored fat for energy. Then by exercising, even daily walking for 30min, you BUILD MUSCLE!!! Common mistake. Do appreciate your video’s and recipes.❤

I'd say you don't have to exercise but should for optimal health. Use it or lose it. Build muscle, lube joints, lower inflammation. I do light things. #1 is walking (my dog) use small weights for arms. Stretching & resistance for legs, butt. Easy abs & I also have a stepper, bike, & treadmill.😊 I want more muscle, & to be toned.

I hate the gym, I hate exercise, always have. The only thing I've ever liked, and now love, is hiking. I'm listening to this because I just don't think I will ever get into doing exercise. For me, it never changed how I think, it just is something I hate and forcing myself to do something I hate just never works out. I think if I can lose 50lbs, which I lost 45lbs before on keto, I could do more hiking and feel much better again, so that is my goal for now...I need to lose about 125 pnds in total. Thanks for being a channel that has great info for people on keto diets!

Thing is it’s hard to stay low carb / keto because it’s so expensive unless all you eat is eggs and sausage. The keto bars and cereals and breads are so much more expensive and you don’t even get much for the money either,it’s so hard financially to sustain that lifestyle especially right now with cost of living 😞

Because my vitamin d levels were dangerously low, i now have rickets. My legs are badly deformed because of it. I cant stand alone. I have to use a walker and a wheelchair. Im so thankful for you cooking with low carbs. Im extremely overweight. I have tried making the cottage cheese ice cream, and chips. The ice cream, i couldn't get the sweetness right. I kept tasting the salt from the cottage cheese. I could really use some help. Please and thank you. ❤

Back in May 2021 i was 5'8 (still am, lol) 190 pounds. By January 2022 i got my weight down to 130 pounds without exercise. I ate two times a day while fasting everyday for 16 hours. Foods i ate the most were wild caught fish, brown rice, broccoli, beans, oats, nuts, peanut butter, chia seeds & olive oil. The foods i ate twice a month as a treat were 11 ounces of blueberries with one 5.3 ounce container of Chobani plain greek yogurt, Lily's stevia sweetened white chocolate bar or Lily's stevia sweetened dark chocolate almonds. Oh, and i was in an extreme caloric deficit everyday. I only ate 950 to 1000 calories a day.

Exercising make you lose mostly water weight, while gaining muscle, which makes you seem like gaining weight. Keto help you lose the fat by allowing your body to use carbohydrate gained fat first as energy instead of STORING it. Your body stores fat and uses carbs as energy source.

I’m 5 ft 7 and went from 193 to around 160. I like the Catalina crunch cereal. I looked at the magic spoon brand but I’d says it contains a bioengineered ingredient. Wasn’t sure about that. What do you think ? TIA. Love your videos and recipes. The low carb cornbread is a favorite 💙Cheryl

I've lost 50 lbs by just eating healthier and fasting. I have my days, but when I fall off the good eating pattern I immediately try to get back on track as fast as I can, but I will have a meal or so once a week that might have a little more carbs or something. However, this is much better than eating the way I use to, and ordering DoorDash 3 times a week. Thanks for the video Mayra

Of course we’re gonna have a craving I mean here and there, but as long as you stay consistent and eating, cleaning, exercising or not but it can get you started lose the goal and you lose weight or you’re happy and then you can start toning exercising, working more on body mass muscles and it’s true you know a lot of us will fall off our wagon learning and never stops here you just keep going as you’re living so much benefit to your health when you eat better eat cleaner more energized you just feel good from the inside out about yourself at least you give your gonna take time one day at a time to reach your goals or whatever and just keep on going even you reach your goals it be a healthy lifestyle

For me, on my journey so far I have lost 110 pounds. I am now 229 pounds. I did go hardcore keto at the beginning, but now I keep it lower carb. Some nights, yes I do eat more carbs. I learned how to balance. I am still calorie counting even though I probably don’t need to. It’s just a tool I like. I definitely work out though. I like feeling strong and healthy. I work out about 6 days a week on average, a mix of cardio, resistance and I’ve just introduced Pilates. Coming from being over 300 lbs I am in awe of myself and I will never go back. Working out is apart of my lifestyle now. Everything you are saying Myra is true. Yall listen to this woman lol. If I could say anything, even if you don’t have to workout, do it anyway. You only have one body. Love it and see all the things it can do for you while you have it.
