What mistakes have you made while stretching? How did you fix them?

The mistakes I've made was NOT stretching every single day.. I stopped doing stretching exercises for a mere 2 days (it was just too cold) and on day 3 when I began again, my hamstrings were nowhere near as pliable and have been in pain ever since..this is how i ended up watching this video.

Not sure if this helps but when it’s cold keep your house heater on also take hot showers and wear sweaters sweatpants n socks to keep heat in your body after shower

My biggest mistake has been thinking that because I can easily touch my toes and primal squat, that my hamstrings are a-ok! Incorrect; all my flexibility was in my hips and glutes. I sit half-lotus all the time, which of course shortens hamstrings. The short hamstrings cause all kinds of low back and hip pain, and over-stretch (weaken) glutes and lumbar muscles. The solution: tilt my sacrum forward (top forward, low end back) when stretching hamstrings, myofacial release of hamstrings, and start a hamstring-focused stretching regimen, several times a day - that’s what I’m here for! So, thank you.

Hi Matt, does stretching hamstrings by keeping the leg straight stretch the sciatic nerve too? In which case do we need to bend the knee and continue the stretch? Would love to know your thoughts

Long distance runner here, trying to get a little bit more bendy but whenever I (attempt) to stretch my hamstrings the area I feel it most is the back of my knees. Its like I´m trying to lengthen a steel cable behind my knee and I cant get any satisfactory stretch in the hamstrings them selves. Anything you can recommend trying?

I stretch my hamstrings after I have a hot shower. I let the hot water on my back for a while and then bend over while my muscles are nice and loose and stretch them out 2-3 times for about 30 seconds. It works.

The body has a number of kinetic chains, so if the hamstrings are tight, then probably the ligaments and muscles in the feet, calves, hamstrings, butt area, lower back, and perhaps in the middle back, are tight as well. Thus instead of just stretching the hamstrings separately, I think it is better to stretch the entire kinetic chain all at once. Thus I would say it is ok to also bend your back in order to stretch your lower and middler back at the same time as stretching your hamstrings, but the key is to feel the tension from stretching throughout the ENTIRE kinetic chain, and not on one particular area, such as the hamstrings or the lower back.

@@keiraf1 no it’s a hamstring strain I think we both have I went to a doc. You need to ice it constinetly when you go to dance make sure to take iv profen or something. Mine still hurts it takes a long long long time. I think we both might have bounced in our splits. Those muscles are like strings and they stretch and can tear when bounced. I didn’t know that before lol. I know it is stressful just try not to apply as much wait if you can do the best you can not to hurt it and prevent it from hurting. It’s good to do small stretches as long as it doesn’t hurt if it hurts your stretching to hard. You can then slowly progress. I don’t really know if mine has got better but I don’t think so yet! Keep trying don’t give up
