Thank you for showing the rideshare location. We have never figured that out and had used the taxis. We always use the metro now since we are just south of Alameda. We always check the news the day prior to check for strikes. If they are on strike, then we use Bolt.

Metro is the way to go if you are close to one of the stops.

Thanks for sharing this info. When we arrived a couple of weeks ago, we got directed by someone to that rideshare area up the escalator. But since there wasn't clear signage there, we just weren't sure it was the correct place, so we ended up going with a taxi that was available right nearby. Next time I'll be more informed.

Another struggle we had at the airport was determining where to meet our LUGGit person. LUGGit is an online luggage storage service that can pick up your bags, keep them for a while, and then deliver them to your hotel at your requested time. It's handy since a lot of flights arrive in the morning, but oftentimes your hotel room/Airbnb won't be available until the afternoon.

For penny pinchers like me, you can get much cheaper car rental rates away from an airport. This would apply to most airports, not just Lisbon.

It can also be the fastest way to get to your city center destination too.

The line to get a Viagem card can be long is the only downside. If we are meeting friends or family, we buy their Viagem card and meet them with it. We live only 2-3km south of the airport and the metro is definitely faster during peak traffic.

@@JonesTravelers True, I've found in the 8am-Noon timeframe, there are lines from so many international flights coming into Lisbon, and it gets easier in the afternoon and evening to get a ticket.

Hi Joric, I’m moving to Portugal on January 23 and I am curious if you know Specific information about transfer services. I will be coming in with four large bags and a carry-on and I am worried about navigating to find an Uber. I’m also curious about how it works when you get there and get your bags at baggage claim and are you directed to customs? I’m looking to make it as easy and the least stressful since I am coming there by myself. Your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks Lori

I would recommend contacting Special Limo. We have used them many times to get to and from the airport, especially when we have a 6am flight,. We have also used them to do day trips to Sintra and Setubal. They have sedans and vans.

@@traveltidbitsrus Sounds great, I will contact them. Also are there elevators going from baggage claim I thought I saw an elevator sign by the escalator? Also do I pick up my bags at baggage claim and then go through customs? Thanks for all your help! Lori

@@lorimagnificent8329 Baggage claim is all on the same floor, and the transfer person will meet you right outside arrivals (first part of video)so no need for elevators. You only need elevator if you are going upstais to use Uber or Bolt.

@@lorimagnificent8329 Customs is in baggage claim on your way out. I believe. We have never had our luggage searched after picking it up, but I do vaguely remember seeing them on the way out.

Hello, and thanks again. Do you recommend grabbing the PT sim card in the airport?

  • @traveltidbitsrus

A couple of recommendations. If not too expensive, add international to your existing plan before flying out. If that is too expensive, you can get sim cards at the airport, unless you fly in the evening. Many of their shops close as early as 9pm. You can get sim cards at every metro station, and most mini mercados and small electronic shops in the city center.

That's what we did a couple of weeks ago when we arrived for our vacation. There is a Vodafone store in that main Arrivals area. You'll probably spot it if you take the ramp on the right, as Joric did in this video. It worked well.
