You’re amazing. I recently bought and read your book. I implemented your advice on cell phone, eating out, insurance, cutting cable, saving on energy bills. I’ve already saved $394 in less than a month! I am starting to feel more confident and I no longer feel the pressure to go along with coworkers who are constantly ordering food, going to Starbucks, buying expensive clothes and makeup or going out for drinks. I’m still going to go out for girls nights and things but very occasionally now. It was just adding up to be too much. I’m going to parks now, watching Roku, reading books from the library and watching cooking videos on you tube. I am picking up Possum Living tonight after work that the library has on hold for me. And it isn’t just the money I saved, but my stress levels have already improved SO much. I feel so much better having a plan and following through with it. I can’t thank you enough. I have a lot of respect for you.

As someone who came from a poor family, I love that you keep the meals SIMPLE! I do as well. My family is the same way. Although our fridge is definitely more full because we're feeding 4 humans and 4 animals! More people need to realize that we are eating HUGE portions when we shouldn't be! Portion sizes are killing the budgets and our bodies are paying the additional cost!

The challenge for some people is they don't live in an area where they can grow their own produce or pick citrus for free. I'm in one room above a storefront with no yard, balcony, patio or window sill. But I have plenty of food and eat well because I know how to shop and cook. I also dilute/cut foods and reduce portion sizes. I've lived on as little as $100 per month for food in the past but I allow myself a little more now since I'm totally debt-free.

When I lived in an apartment in the middle of town, I couldn't grow my own food...but I could walk to the farmer's market every Saturday. Specifically, I would get there the last half hour...they would practically give stuff to me because they didn't want to haul it back home, where it would go bad. I had more fresh produce than I could eat, so I learned to can, dehydrate, and freeze!

Here in Bosnia the most of the food is outside the fridge - we keep fruits, veggies, dried pasta and cans in cool pastry, so the fridge contains leftovers and non-vegan stuff like dairy, eggs and meat. Try incorporating kale, cabbage and leak in a diet - very cheap veggies that can make stews and soups. And sardines in oil, they are the cheapest meals...

Dad's meals are furnished.

800 euro (europe) per month for 4 adults. Prepare all meals at home, I usually prepare soup or sauce/vedgetables for two meals and put one portion in the freezer. Only buy seasonal fruits and vegetables. Once a week to the store and I make sure that nothing is wasted. I figure out all the discounts of 3 supermarkets and make a healthy menu for a week or two. I do my groceries by bike. Foodprices have skyrocketed last year, gas and fuelprices are insane. Many people are struggling to get around. I asked my family. They spend at least 1.000 euro's on groceries every month.

After watching and reading the comments about prices on produce, I have to suggest: Make sure to take advantage of whatever the farmers grow in your area. I paid $1.99 for my most recent 5 lb bag of potatoes, 99 cents for a 3 lb bag of carrots, and apples are less than what Princess paid. Those are all grown in my area. Cucumbers and even lettuce is ridiculously expensive. Edited to add: I don't have to cook dinner for a week because I pulled this winter's batch-cooked soups from the freezer to make room for newly-cut rhubarb.

My fridge looks a lot like yours, lots of space between things. But out of curiosity I went in and counted. I've got the makings of about 17 meals. What I don't have in there is sodapop, snack packs, fifty different condiments, etc. Inused to clean for a living and so much of what makes a crammed fridge is stuff no one wants to eat, and stuff so junky no one should eat it. When all you eat is real food the fridge is not so stuffed.

We don't eat much meat, but we do eat mostly from our gardens this time of the year. I have lettuce, spinach, kale, red sorrel, dandelion, hastas, and other greens that are just growing around my yard. I make a very diverse salad with all of these greens, plus the onion tops that are bending and the chives. i have started drying my teas for the year with lemon balm that was getting out of control already and the lilacs that were starting to die off. I also have some wild garlic in the yard that I picked and am drying that out too. Food and medicine are everywhere once we learn how to find it and what to look for. The best part is that it is basically free or very cheap once you either learn how to forage for it or how to grow it, then preserve it, and save your own seeds.

I have the same size fridge freezer, its a normal size here in Europe. I feed 3 people. Plenty of space. Sometimes I have to be a bit creative to fit all the food. My best purchase was a vacuum sealer. I divide the packages of for ex. ground beef or chicken into dinner sizes, pack them flat, and I get more in those 3 drawers of freezer. I am hosting 2 dinner parties this week, one with family and one with friends. I have been planning these dinners, and after work I drove to 4 different grocery stores to get the sales items. Money goes fast these days, but I stayed on budget. I shop only once a week. One shop was chosen due to an offer on Wettex dishcloths. They sell 10 for the normal price of 3, I got that, paid and left for another store. I work close to a big city and there is numerous stores and malls on my way home. I live in the woods, and it is 30 minutes drive to civilization 😉 Still it is only an hour to the Capital city.

People I know STILL spend $500-$1000 a month on food (groceries, fast food, eating out, food delivery 🙄). There is something about food that makes people drop the frugal "ball". The smaller plate concept is genius, I took my family down to a seven inch salad plate (gasp... 🤣). We are all well nourished and never go hungry. But boy oh boy does it save on the food budget!

Make homemade granola bars using your cinnamon puffins: Ingredients: - 2 cups crushed cinnamon puffins cereal - 1 cup rolled oats - 1/2 cup honey or maple syrup - 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter or almond butter - 1/4 cup chopped nuts or seeds (such as almonds, walnuts, or sunflower seeds) - 1/4 cup dried fruit (such as raisins, cranberries, or chopped apricots) - 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract - 1/4 teaspoon salt Instructions: 1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it with cooking spray. 2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the crushed cinnamon puffins cereal, rolled oats, chopped nuts or seeds, and dried fruit. Mix well to combine. 3. In a small saucepan, heat the honey or maple syrup, peanut butter or almond butter, vanilla extract, and salt over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture is smooth and well combined. 4. Pour the wet mixture over the dry ingredients in the mixing bowl. Stir until all of the dry ingredients are evenly coated with the wet mixture. 5. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking pan. Use a spatula or your hands to press the mixture firmly and evenly into the pan. 6. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. 7. Remove from the oven and let the granola bars cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, use a sharp knife to cut them into bars or squares. 8. Store the granola bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week, or in the refrigerator for longer shelf life.

I haven't heard you mention how much energy is used when you cook. I eat pretty much the same things, with variations, everyday. Greens of some kind-mixed veggies ( broccoli-cauliflower- carrots), brown rice for dinner. Green tea alone or with plain wheat toast for breakfast. Snacks are home made popcorn ( made in a paper bag in the microwave), generic toasted oat cereal or rice Chex or corn tortillas placed in the toaster. All these foods are cooked for a very short time or by using residual heat, which can save a lot on energy. You are very lucky to have so many fruits and berries available to you. They are quite expensive where I live.

My fridge looks almost like yours, and there's Plenty of meals in it! I'm glitchy, so I keep meals underway and fresh things In Sight-- lest they die in there, before I eat them 😅. Freezer is loaded with great deals on mostly meats. I cook up an entire Value Pack of whatever I find, and freeze it in 1 lb portions for later recipes...

I started a garden thinking I'd be saving a ton of money. I likely did it wrong, but my first raised bed (including dirt) was approximately $500! My next garden spaces on this property will be done much cheaper, plus we compost so that's a way to get some free dirt. Wish I had an orange tree! I'm surrounded by huge huge trees and they steal all the sunlight.

The reason why folks say you don't have much food is because they are seeing ingredients that need to be combined and not the packaged, processed convenience meals they are so used to. I am so glad you showed your food in fridge and how it is turned into your meals! A lot of people that do these YT videos show ingredients in their fridge and freezer acting like they either have nothing or let’s clean out this stuff! I am seeing an abundance of food that could last them another month for family of four, if not longer! Plus, why are people hoarding food if they are not going to use it? I can see buying basics: flour, sugar, eggs, bread( if they don’t make their own). A lot of these women are in very expensive houses, have chickens for eggs…where most people can’t afford that luxury. I can’t remember a time when we complained about anything my mother cooked and placed on the table. Plus my mother would take leftovers and turn them into TV dinners and freeze them. If pot pies went on sale for 50 cents she stocked up…same with TV dinners. Back in the ‘80’s MC Donald’s would have one day in the year where they sold their regular hamburgers for 50 cents each. I placed an order for enough for up at college and for my mother. We would separate the meat patty from the bun and freeze both. That way we could heat them in the oven and not get over cooked bun and cold patty( we didn’t have a microwave). Plus, now if you open an app for some fast food places they give you a free meal. Take that and turn it into couple of meals. A barbecue place was selling pulled pork sandwiches that was stacked with lots of pork. I took off meat and asked for a to go container. It had so much meat on that one sandwich it made me three sandwiches! I should have got another sandwich and could have eaten for a week for $5.00. So, thank you for your honesty and really helping people understand how to really save their money! Keep up the great work!!!

Making your own pizza is a great way to eat dirt cheap. And yes, you can make it taste restaurant quality without a pizza oven. Just set the oven to 475 and use a cheap, thin pizza pan that you can find at Dollar Tree. A 12 inch pizza will only cost a couple of dollars to make and it serves 2.
