How To Light A Pellet Tube To Make Any Grill A Smoker For Hot Or Cold Smoking (A-MAZE-N Smoke Tube)
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video I show how to light a pellet tube so it will stay burning for hours. I’ve watched a few videos now where others can’t get it to stay lit for cold smoking. I was even asked in a video by name to help if I can help so here it is. Hope this helps everyone. If you haven’t subscribed yet hit the subscribe to see more content coming soon.

Quick tip if you purchase one and happen to not have a propane torch (like Me) soak a napkin in vegetable oil and stuff it in the tip and light it. Works like a charm. Great video love them all!

About time i find an instructional vid thats straight to the point. Thank you
That is really cool, I've smoked spices and nuts just with leftover charcoal. Cheese and salmon are on my short list. Great video Paul!
Paul's way is the way to do it. If your pellets are going out after you close the lid/door then you're not letting them burn on their own long enough. Bare minimun 5 minutes of flame without more help from the torch. Works every time.
Thanks very helpful. I like your straight forward no crap teaching!!
I have three of these and have used them for the last few years. I tip on its side and light the bottom end. Top or bottom, either way works fine. Definitely need to let it burn for 5 minutes or so before blowing out. Couple other tricks i have used is hitting the lit area with a burst of air from an air compressor to get them burning hotter to start off. have also put a an inch or so of pellets in the tube, shot some charcoal starter fluid on it and lit it for a few minutes before filling the remainder of the tube with pellets.
Thanks to your video yesterday i made THE BEST smoked succulent salmon. I used applewood. Inebriating but in a good way!
wow that's a great amount of smoke definitely picking one up

thanks again Paul, because of this video I found out I was doing it wrong. I was lighting the bottom end thinking the fire would travel up but apparently doing it that way smothers out the smoldering pellets. Lighting top works great.

great video, I used lighter fluid and a simple match to light mine and it turned out great. just dont go crazy on the fluid or youll end up lighting them all on fire to start. I honestly need to get a propane torch like that though, i've seen some people char the outsides of steaks while keeping it ultra rare with those.

You want a propane torch tip that is regulated so the liquid gas in the tank doesn't block and put the flame out when you turn it sideways.
So just to clarify, i dont want to leave the flame burning?
In my experience with the same tube I get about 2 hours smoke time. It's been enough time for a great smokey flavor.

What position is best for this tube inside the pellet grill? I don’t have a chimney, my vents run along the back
@paulsq_

You could put it anywhere in the grill really. I’d put it more towards the front in my grill if I didn’t add the chimney and just the vent holes in the back still.
So I've got 3 racks of ribs across my grill, no room for tube except on warming rack. Is that going to drop ashes on my ribs?
@paulsq_

Hey Gus, it will most likely drop some ash on to your ribs. You could put 2 racks on the bottom rack and 1 rack on the top with the smoke tube on the bottom in the middle of the 2 racks
If I run out of pallets but have small Mesquite chips will that work in there
@paulsq_

For sure wood chips will work in the smoke tube. You should get a better smoke flavor from using wood chips vs the pellets. I haven’t tried using wood chips yet but I know someone who does and he says it’s great. Check out his video here kzread.info/dash/bejne/dJ6i1LSjoK7NcbQ.html

Eddie I have a smoke tube and you have to let the pellets burn for at least 10 minutes before blowing out the flame. I also make a a wedge out of aluminum foil to help elevate the ooen end of the tube. So it is raised up a bit. I have also filked the tube 2/3 with pellets and the rest with wood chips. Light the chips and let flame for 5 minutes. Blow out and you should be good.

Mine doesn’t smoke as much during the cooking process or will sometime loose it’s flame anybody know why?
Could you light both ends and double the smoke?
@paulsq_
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, you could try lighting both ends but from my experience lighting the bottom end it won’t burn for long and keep going out. You wouldn’t be doubling the smoke by doing that it would still be the same as you’re only burning the one tube still
Not sure why mine always turns off

I am using weber lighter cubes, I put one on the top and light it, let it go for about 10 minutes then blow it out, a lot of smoke comes out of the tube but once I close the gas grill the smoke pretty much disappears. I thought it could be a ventilation problem but I have a pretty good KitchenAid grill with enough vents, I even move the tube as close to the vents as possible, it doesn't help. I was using the same brand of pellets, they didn't give out any decent smell either, maybe they suck, I recently bought a pretty good bag of high quality pellets and a torch, I will try with those two and see if I get better results.
I'll pay you to say, "Every other block, there's a creep. You can always tell a creep"
I can tell by your accent and the snow that you're not a Texan. My condolences (just kidding). So how do you keep the tube lit in a strong West Texas wind? I'm AOK on days that the wind isn't blowing... but when it is... I cannot keep the tube lit long enough to generate smoke in the smoker! Didn't know if you had tips or tricks on how to deal with lighting a tube in a strong wind? BTW - I tried to lighting my tube inside my house... which set off both my smoke detectors and my wife... the latter being the more deadly of the two... Thanks for the video - nice tutorial!

@paulsq_
3 жыл бұрын
Hey dusty, the smoke tube is just for cold smoking or adding more smoke to a cook you have going. It doesn’t cook as it doesn’t produce enough heat for that.
If you light it in the middle of the tube it will burn in BOTH directions, put out twice as much smoke and burn for 2hrs instead of 4hrs. Same smoke half of the time.

Dont ever use Traeger pellets. They use wood oils instead of the actual wood. Lumberjack or Cookin Pellets are two of the best options
A lot of the problems people have is not enough oxygen causing it to go out.
