I've always been skeptical with this because I've seen it go very wrong in the salon causing orange roots. I watched this video 124 times and finally convinced myself to try it. It worked BEAUTIFULLY! I am actually a level 4 with 25% gray. I just used 20 vol and P and as soon as I started to see it lift I washed it off. It broke my base beautifully and softend it so nice. My blonde is so bright and it evened out some bands I had in there as well. Thank you for sharing ❤

@@UFTrici LOL!! I used to think the same thing. 1 part means if you use say 1 oz of color, then you use 2 oz of developer. 1 tbsp color, 2 tbsp developer. If you have the Wella toner, you use 1 bottle of the toner, then fill that bottle twice with developer. It's 1.4 oz of toner and 2.8 oz developer. Whatever you use to measure, its 1 of color with 2 of developer. Good luck.

Silvia, you have been a hair angel! You're videos are always so informative and help me get the job done. I really want to try this to my hair but I have about an inch of regrowth and my hair is getting a little brassy...will the roots go brassy with using a hilift color or will the 20 vol keep it from lifting too much like a toner? I don't want to bleach again and want to keep the darker roots through fall and winter to give it a break. Would you recommend this or even a Demi in a 10a to help blend and tone?

I did this!! Thank you soooooo much Sylvia!!!! My hair turned out fabulous. I only have access to Sally's so I used half an ounce of AGE Beautiful (Zotos) High Lift color in HLN -Neutral Bonde, half an ounce of the same brand in HLA - Ash Blonde and two ounces of 20 volume developer. Left it on for 15 minutes as per your instructions and it came out FANTASTIC! I know my hair pulls red so I would say that if anyone else would like to try this I would first go with just HLN because if your ends are super porous they might come out a little to ashy with my combo. I usually get a bit of brassiness and dullness at about 6 weeks after my last professional color and hi-light. Like you said, it just gave me shine and a *fresher* color. Somehow the roots are blending a little more too even though they didn't lift. I think this will enable me to go longer between professional visits and give me the little lift I need. Many thanks again to you Sylvia!

I used Agebeautiful HLA-Ash blonde with 20 volume in lieu of not finding the Chi Iconic 11A. I had I 4N roots and light reddish brown (brassy) hair with dark to medium (brassy) blonde highlights. It turned out surprisingly well. Mind you I'm correcting my hair after I paid over $300 for balayage retouch. The stylist lifted me to level 9 on ends and level 7 on balayage retouch. My brown hair that wasn't highlighted turn light reddish brown. I was so tempted to dye my hair dark brown and give up on finding a solution to my haircolor nightmare. That was until I found your video and decided to take a chance. OMG! Thank you so damn much!! I still have some brass on the light brown hair, but nothing like the nightmare I had before. The blonde is golden and buttery, no more brass. My dark roots are still brown with zero orange and no hot roots. Thank you so much ❤.

Selena Walck I did and I talked to my hair stylist and she said no matter what developer you use it will change your hair color because it is a permanent color that dyes the hair. I have a lot of highlights and underneath is dark brown. I used it on my whole head for 20 minutes and my roots changed to from a dark brown to a lighter blonde which is fine because you could hardly tell the change of the highlights so I did like the change. But I also bought naissant blonde pearl to help keep the color light and it helped too.

OK, I just went ahead and DID IT!! I was hoping for a reply from you about my situation but no reply- it's OK! I was expecting the worst! I have dark blonde hair (level 6-7 naturally) and it's bleach foiled pretty heavily... anyway, the lengths were looking blah like dull, darker/brassy and purple shampoo wasn't helping. It felt like I needed to go through it with more bleach but I saw your tutorial and heard you say NOT to bleach over bleach (I didn't think that'd be a good idea).... so I bought some high lift color from sally's, 20 developer and went for it!! I have had other stylists try and "break the base" to make the regrowth not look so harsh and it never worked for me- it always turned my roots super orangey and nasty so I was always against breaking the base, but like you said, if you use 20 volume only, you won't get the orangey hot roots, just get enough lift to where your roots don't look so dark- but NO ORANGE!! I am so excited, and my dingey looking lengths look brighter now! Oh, man I am so grateful I found your channel- and another thing- why can't all stylists be as knowledgeable as YOU??? It seems like every single stylist I have gone to for color lately has been absolutely CLUELESS and has not been able to give me what I want despite taking photos in.... they just seem so clueless. It's cost me a lot of money and a lot of breakage!!!! Thank you so much!!!

I've been wanting a more platinum balayage, I have virgin level 5 hair so you would think that would be simple to do, but now 600$ later i have just golden highlights! And I'm so pissed because I've gone to 2 different high end salons In the last 2 years and they apparently cant do what I want! So I'm going to try this. Hopefully successfully so I dont ruin my 600$ shit hair job lol

UPDATE: Went to the salon store and chatted with the manager and I told her what I was thinking of doing. I showed her the video, and she was like wow I'm glad you asked me because you almost ruined your hair. She had me just get a toner because she said the high lift would lift my existing dark hair parts and it would be all mismatched!

Girls, do not be afraid! Use this method! Thank you so much for such great tricks! Thanks to your video, I realized what I need for my orange-yellow-dirty color. Earlier I toned my hair with colors 9.5-4 Igora Royal and 9.22 Farma Vita after bleaching. At first it was not bad, but then it became dirty. Now I write what I did yesterday (I am not a professional!). My base on level 7 and the roots had grown about 1 cm, so I decided to lighten them and to use 12% peroxide on roots. I used Wella Koleston 12.16 (special blonde ash-violet) with 12% on the roots, and then (according to the instructions to the paint) wet the hair and emulsified color over the whole length and left it for 10 minutes. My way is somewhat different from what you advised, but I was inspired by your video. Basic length looks great on the tone lighter, shiny and beautiful natural color at 10 without yellowness. The only negative thing is a little orangey roots. Now I think maybe to use 9% oxidant instead of 12% to my roots the next time, would it remove orange or to buy the Special Blonde with a high content of ash or blue (ask subscribers, can someone faced such problem)? P.S. Of course 12% is too much for bleached and toned hair, even on wet hair, so I will not risk again =) Thank you again for such great videos! You look gorgeous!

I've experienced the same thing when I dyed my roots(level6) with hi lift pearl blonde (11.8) and used 30 vol (9%) and came out not so bright as the rest of my hair and a bit worm. I advised to up the peroxide and use half 9% and half 12%. They also advised me to use some type of heat (not direct hair drier though). I used heat cap and got the results I wanted. Heat accelerates lightening.

Hello, My mothers hair is grey (she's 54 years). It's been colored since 30 years. The color is number 8 mixed with number 8.32 with dev. 20 and she has also her hair bleached (the shine of the hair is very gold, i don't like that very much). But after 2 weeks you see the grey hair already. She goes every 4 weeks to the hairdresser, she bleached her hair with tinfoil and in between she colors the hair. Her hair is very dry! I watched your tutorials and i love them!! Now i want to do my mothers hair but what can i do at home so she doesn't have to go every 4 weeks to her hairdresser. I want a natural look with blond balayage or highlights and i want the grey hair coated. Can you help me? Your hair is amazing and my mother loves your color, she wants that also. What can i use? Thanks xx

I have a question I have lightened blonde hair. But my roots are about a level 9 ash maybe an 8 blonde. If I apply the highlift to my roots will it bump me up to a 10? I usually have my roots lightened but if I can get them lighter without using bleach/lightened I would prefer that and it would save me money.

Hi Silvia, I just want to thank you!!! I did my hair last night with your help from this video...I only had a HL12A in my house not an HL11A...I did exactly what you advised 1 part color two parts developer 20 vol...it turned out A - Mazing!!! It took my washed out middle and ends to a bright buttery blonde...I have been searching for a way to brighten my previously bleached, but brassy ends without using bleach...I cannot thank you enough!!!! Question for you though...I didn't have enough to do the undersides of my hair so I concentrated mainly on the hair that is visible daily...Could I repeat this process using Olaplex in the mixture in a couple of weeks to brighten the remaining hair ??

great video..what would you say to having brunet hair and then using some at home dye and making it a golden brown and then moving from ny to hawaii and getting a blonde color from the sun and sea in just a few months? I moved a little over a year and a half ago and I got bleached out by the sun...don't get me wrong, I happen to love the color now, as I used to go blonde years ago and I fit right in Hawaii now, but my hair is super damaged now and I feel like there is a point of no return type of thing. I feel like it can't be reversed in terms of getting my hair back to a shine or healthy glow again. I tried trimming it, but it looks dull and stiffer than usual. I just tried tried the keretin shampoo and conditioner and then trid a cleanse of vinager and baking soda, but it's still not behaving..any suggestions? You seem like a hair wizard and I believe or at least am hoping for a miracle. I can give you a free tip too with home remedies...lol, I don't like to just get this answer for free...so here it is: to make your lashes grow naturally, put on castor oil on them at night by the lash line and on them...and in 4 days you will notice a major difference. Ok, there it is..what do ya got for me? thanks in advance, I just subscribed! :)

I just did this with a 30 V Because as that’s all I had and my Chi highlift said use 1:1 ratio (vs 1:2), so that is what I did. It’s still damp but I’m loving results!! I only did a few stripes for test I am going to go back in when it dries and hit my whole head. For reference: I’m naturally level 4 w/heavily bleached highlights level 8 to 9/10 thru mids/ends with level 6 perm. color on my roots to Cover gray (A lot going on!). My mids/ends are now super bright & feel healthy! I also tapped a little bit on my roots & it blends the darker 6 with the highlights much better . (coronavirus quarantine experiments lol) Thanks Sylvia!

Hi. I love your videos. I am graying with total silver along first inch or so along front hairline. I've been coloring with blond and 40 volume. I'm brassy in the back with darker roots, as I'm more salt and pepper in the back. I've just purchased Ion high lift blond and Wella toners with some 40 and 20 volume developer. Can I do my roots with the high lift and 40, and then bring it down to my ends, or should I use 20 on it all or ends? I want to go lighter so my hairline silver roots aren't as noticeable. My hair grows super fast.

I love your vids! So with your help, I went from dark brunette (as you can probably see in my old profile pic) to pale ashy blonde using a balayage technique over the course of several months. I left the roots dark (I like that rooty look) as well as the last layer of hair at the nape of my neck (kind of like the way you have yours.) I'm at a great point in the process but I would like the blonde parts to be icier. How do you recommend I apply the highlift blonde? Will it turn my dark brunette roots brassy? That's my fear. Thanks for your help!

I don't mean to impose, but I hope this helps. To my knowledge, high lift would definitely affect your darker hair, but, that's also because they are normally used with a 40 developer, so I'm not sure how MUCH it would affect it. I personally wouldn't attempt it unless you can be super precise with your placement. While high lift colors don't contain bleach, they do contain larger amounts of an ammonia type ingredient which helps with the "lifting" process.

I had a flood in my basement so my well water and softener turned my lightened blonde hair ORANGE after a shower one day. Just like that I was orange and ugly. I finally with vita c got that out safely. So now I get back from Cosmo prof with UTP platinum and grabbed 20 vol developer . After watching several of these I decided to go for it and I did subscribe too finally. I've been dealing with cancer and addiction recovery for the last year and a half. So far so good.
