    Western Equipment Brent- I was wondering if your Alva location delivers and services the Caldwell Kansas area. I am considering buying the S240 - 42” w/bagger and would like to give you guys a chance to quote me a price rather than me buying one a little closer. All because I have learned so much from you on KZread and want to give you a chance! Thanks. Doug

    This is exceptional…..I almost avoid using my s240 because of the crappy way it cuts and even “scalps”. I’ll go ahead, buy the leveling gauge, and attempt to rectify. My question is, the highest setting - lever all the way back - is the setting you should level at? And then, the actual level won’t change, as you lower the deck….correct? Did what I just write, make sense? Also, realistically…..how often do you typically need to level the deck?

  • @WesternEquipment

    @WesternEquipment

    I would pick a lower point like the 3" mark to do your leveling at. Once it is level at one position it will stay true to all other heights. And I would level the deck a couple of times during mowing season and once right before the start of mowing season. Thanks for watching!

  • @WesternEquipment

    Check it right away. I’ve seen them off as much as a couple of inches on one side before. Some dealers or box retailers don’t level the decks even though they should.

    Hey Brent, nice name BTW... If you are going to the trouble of setting the cutting height to match the height of the selector lever would it not make more sense to start with the front to back measurement? It seems that you should start by getting the front to the 3" and then setting the back 1/8"-1/4" higher than that. Am I wrong?

    I would think, you should set the front to 3”, and the back to 3 1/4”. Then when doing the side it should be at 3 1/8”

    @@WesternEquipment thanks for the reply. This doesn’t appear to take place. The deck is leveled at say 4inches as soon as you move it to 3inches it reads 2.5 or so. If placed back to 4 it is at 4 though. This would make it seem the measurement is off.

    You would just have to take off your lower tube so you can get to the rear hangers and so you can get you level gauge on the blade on the discharge side. Great question! Thanks for watching!

  • @WesternEquipment

    @WesternEquipment

    2 жыл бұрын

    This is going to be a tough one. I don't know of any trick right off the top of my head if you do not have a level surface to gauge off of. Maybe be time to get creative here. Maybe shim up the wheels and tires until the mower is sitting level and them to the same thing with a board under the deck and then gauge off of the level board? I wish i had a better idea but maybe this will get you close. Thanks for watching!

    @3:53. The front antiscalping wheels are closer to the floor than the rear wheels. Mine is like that so I assume that is normal.

  • @WesternEquipment

    Yes, and reason being is that the front of your deck should be lower than the rear to avoid double cutting.

  • @richstevens5727

    @@teamslaiyans3808 I believe double cutting is when the blades of grass get cut once by one blade the get hit again when the other side of the blade comes around. Like split ends on hair. I'm guessing it can lead to a lesser healthy lawn. Keep in mind this is complete speculation and I have no clue. 😂

    William, I can't speak for anyone but my own purchase. I spent 2599.00 on the 42 inch model and have to wait until my local John Deere dealer either gets one from another store or a factory shipment. There is a 200.00 discount for milatary service and a special financial deal 4.99% for 48 months,also was told by dealer that John Deere finance will typically just give you a 5000.00 line of credit. I am using this to add a bagger, sun canopy, and a spike aerarator /spreader as I have lots of overseeding to do and want to do it as quickly and as painless as possible. Hope you join the Deere family and good luck!
