Husqvarna uses two adjusting rods where as Craftsman mowers that are built by Husqvarna use one adjusting rod. Putting two on the deck does wonders and they are very inexpensive.

Man, thank you a million times over!! I recently bought a used YT4000, at level 3 the deck was literally laying flat on the ground and that is with the anti scalp wheels in the highest position... I adjusted the left side nut to where it layed flat on level 1, then bam, the right side of course was totally uneven. After watching several other "hack" videos and not really wanting to go those routes, this video just blew my mind !!!! I've never really understood where the anti scalp wheels are supposed to ride at cutting height but this video at least saves me from losing my mind as far as leveling this thing, thank you again brother !!

@@hester781 No joke - I just rebuilt my damn deck and found some jerry-rigged wire that I'd put in that EXACT spot like .. ten years ago in a moment of clarity and apparently forgot about it - the wire of course compressed and stopped working, hence my baling wire rig on the front right deck ... but this pin makes sense and should stand the test of time. I don't care enough (yet) about my yard to find spare parts, but this should do it. My friends say I should buy a ZTR, but I've rebuilt this damn POS so many times, I hate to start a new relationship with a different POS ... the devil you know? No one understands except us poor folks who have to mow and don't wanna drop 5K every few years on a new freakin' mower. Anyway, the engine and other parts are great (seat could use some black duct tape, I guess) but the deck is a constant headache. Then again, I'm a freakin' moron and make bad decisions when mowing, so .... thanks :)

Mine has been dragging on the front right of the deck. It looks like there is a type of shield welded on there. I don’t know if I bent it down a bit when I ran into a small piece of tree root. It prevented the blade from hitting it. But it drags the ground even at the highest setting! I’ll see about finding an adjustable piece like your for the right. That is a nice real actual hack 😂

I dont get this video, when you bring deck up off ground, then you measure both sides, then you adjust that left side adjustment up or down, then it becomes even side to side. There is no need for adjustment on both sides..........

If you ever tried to level the deck on one of these then you’d understand. You are 100% correct in your logic and on some of them it’s no problem. but on many of them it’s something about that bracket geometry that makes getting them “perfect” impossible without being able to adjust both sides which is why Many of the more expensive riding mowers actually come standard with adjusters on both sides because of this problem.

I have the same model and I always use fuel that I have removed all the ethanol from and added a squirt of two stroke oil and a teaspoon of octane booster. I call it green goblin fuel. My mower deck will barely lift off the ground the way it is adjusted and I am going to have to figure out what is wrong with it

The red arrow is meant to be a reminder for yourself for what height you prefer, I usually keep mine at 4 or 5 depending on the season so if I set the red arrow at 4 and my wife decides to mow, she knows exactly where to set it!

My Husqvarna has that rod that you're adding to the right side it came with that already I don't know why Sears wouldn't have an adjustment rod just like the other side doesn't Husqvarna and make Sears tractors it sure would make sense what you did was called using your brain unlike they did when they built the tractor.

Most of the times the stamped decks are warped .. These riders are junk . These Briggs engines will need a head gasket yearly and the compression release will fly apart causing you to replace the cam . It's a guarantee... Shame on Briggs for such a horrible design..

  • @hester781

There’s definitely something to be said about poorly designed parts! However there’s a lot to be said about proper care and maintenance. Ive changed tons of cams and head gaskets and even heads and push rods on these motors. But I’ve owned this tractor since new in 2006 and outside of rebuilding the Nikki carb a few times (another beautiful design) and some idler pullys and a spindle, I’ve had no real failures and she’s been a great reliable mower. Most of the head failures I see come from mouse nests causing the engine to overheat. And most engine problems I’ve fixed come from lack of oil changes/low oil, and gasoline sneaking past the carb into the crank case.
