I wish more people understood that grammar is a shortcut. I think avoiding it entirely is very misguided. We must defend the sanctity of the grammar book! 😇

It's time to stop over demonizing grammar 🙏

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! One of the first things that language learners should figure out is the best way to learn grammar. Everyone is different and the right approach is the approach that works for that person. It’s about figuring out what works for you before you venture out into the target language! A very insightful video! Thanks for sharing 👍😊

Thank you & I absolutely agree! Language learning is definitely a lot of trial and error what works and what doesn't, what's bearable and what'd absolutely demotivate you. And then these things change as you progress too, so what might've worked before might no longer work and so on.

This video has more likes than views 🤔. Anyway. How to approach grammar is the eternal conundrum I can’t seem to solve. When or if I reach upper intermediate I would say it doesn’t really matter because I already know most of the grammar I’ll ever need. It’s the stages before then that drive one insane. I was highly motivated to learn Japanese about 12 years ago. I had a lot of experience with german and less experience with French and Spanish. The primarily immersion method or Steve Kaufman method had served me well but the Japanese writing system on top of it being so different from English made this method absolutely fail for me. I had to do the textbook and conversation method for years and years before I could benefit from lots of reading and listening. It’s definitely not the lazy method and if I were less motivated it wouldn’t have worked. I’m currently doing the lazy immersion method for Korean and it’s going painfully slow 😂. But I don’t have the motivation to sustain intense grammar or textbook study. Steve Kaufman (and others) have found success just doing lots of immersion and a little grammar study but that doesn’t seem to work for me for “difficult” languages.
