Thank you Zoe. I've been waiting for your take on learning English. I'm one of the people who achieved fluency up to the C1 level in reading and listening, but my writing and speaking are subpar (perhaps just at the B1 level). I never feel confident with my grammar (I depend on Grammarly most of the time) and the native speaker has difficulty understanding my pronunciation. I found it helpful that you broke down the type of skill that needs to be mastered as it gives me an idea of which types of skills I need to focus on. I took notes on all the resources you've mentioned and can't wait to dive into them soon.

I'm at the same level with you! Unfortunately it's very hard for me to speak alone with myself or to do shadowing. I can't speak with my phone/laptop at all, I need a real person. But my pronunciation is ok i guess, a native speaker understood me... for grammar I recommend checking out the points you are weak on and focus on them.

I hope you fix that , I was reading it and I understood 50%, I'm still learning expressions, I can't confirm this sentence properly, but I think it's wrong and I go into the translation and you say TO FLOUNCY. Meaning expression: "I flouncy you yesterday" I'm learning alone on my pc, i'm a Brazilian teenager (I'm 17 years old), but I hope to have fun learning English, with the TV series I like the most, I listen to podcasts just on my way to work or taking a shower

For learning portuguese, i just googled the 1000 most used words and made an excel sheet with the words. I used Memorion on Android to import the Excel and learn the flash cards. I split them into nouns, verbs etc. I started with nouns and went on to verbs so i could start expressing myself in basic sentences. Of course this wasnt enough but it helped me get started. Just in case you guys dont like Ankii, because I found the lists there a lot of times are not what I needed.

in brief: The video is a comprehensive guide on improving English proficiency for adults. Zoe, the host, speaks seven languages and shares her personal journey in mastering English. She emphasizes the importance of self-assessment, effective communication, and integrating learning into daily routines. 1. **Self-Assessment**: Zoe begins by highlighting the significance of evaluating one's current English level. She recommends online resources like the Cambridge test and the British Council's app, English Score, for this purpose. 2. **Pronunciation and Accent**: The video differentiates between pronunciation (the way letters are pronounced) and accent (variations in speaking style based on region). Zoe stresses clear pronunciation for effective communication and suggests resources for British and American pronunciations. 3. **Vocabulary and Grammar**: Zoe advises against rote memorization of words, advocating learning in context. She recommends using apps like Busuu, which provides structured lessons, and resources like Anki or Quizlet. She also suggests fixing one grammar point per day using resources like "Essential Grammar in Use" by Cambridge and listening to the "Six Minute Grammar" podcast. 4. **Listening and Speaking Skills**: She emphasizes shadowing exercises to improve these skills. Zoe describes her method of shadowing BBC lecture podcasts, involving multiple listenings and repetitions to match rhythm, intonation, and stress patterns. 5. **Intermediate Learning**: At this stage, Zoe suggests integrating grammar exercises with English grammar resources, focusing more on listening and speaking. She recommends shadowing exercises using channels like "Learn English with TV Series" and "Too Fluency". 6. **Advanced Learning**: For advanced learners, Zoe suggests immersing in English through TV shows, movies, music, and using resources like Audible for audiobooks. She recommends reading and writing exercises, such as summarizing articles from "The Economist". 7. **Study Plans and Resources**: Throughout the video, Zoe provides detailed study plans for different levels and lists numerous resources for each aspect of learning English. She encourages viewers to integrate these activities into their daily routines. 8. **Conclusion**: Zoe concludes by motivating viewers to take action and use the tools and methods she has shared. She encourages questions and interaction in the video comments. This video is a rich resource for adults looking to improve their English, offering practical advice, personal insights, and a wealth of resources for learners at all levels.

Thank you so much Zoe for sharing with us your valuable expertise, you instill in me confidence and practical strategy to implement. However, I am wondering how did you become so proficient in English in just 1 year? You're definitely at the highest level of English proficiency, even being in an English speaking country, reading and speaking daily, I find it hard to advance further, such as improving the variety and complexity of my grammatical structures, sounding more sophisticated(you do), or being able to tell stories with vivid details. i am B2/C1 level with the Cambridge test. I find Busuu is not helpful for these purposes. Thank you so much for sharing your invaluable knowledge!

Very interesting video! Many thanks to the author of the channel for the recommendations! The problem with many people is that they want to take a "magic pill" or get "secret knowledge" and immediately have skills and abilities. However, the truth of life is that knowledge, skills, and abilities do not come by themselves. You can't learn a foreign language without doing anything, without wasting your time and effort, just like you can't learn to ride a bike lying on a comfy couch, listening to lectures and watching videos about "modern methods of learning" on a bike. To really learn something, you have to really practice every day. You're going to fall down while you're learning, and you're going to get bumps - that's normal! The ups and downs of learning are an integral part of our lives. Motivation from success and depression from failure will always be your study companions. However, every student has problems in his or her studies that he or she lacks the knowledge to solve. It can be: poor memorization of words; no progress in language learning; the student can speak, but does not understand speech by ear; misunderstanding of grammar; incorrect pronunciation, etc. Agree that a problem you don't know how to solve is very demotivating. In order to find the answer to our question we have to spend a lot of time to read videos, articles and books by polyglots. In today's world, we have to solve problems as quickly as possible. I don't have time to study and analyze a huge amount of information. My goal is to master the basic knowledge of a foreign language as quickly as possible and already start earning money effectively in the international arena. I settled on the practical guide by Yuriy Ivantsiv " Polyglot's Notes: practical tips for learning foreign language". This book is always in my bag. If I have a problem while learning a language, I quickly find the answer in this book. There are many different techniques and tips for learning a foreign language in Polyglot Notes. I have made my own individual schedule and plan for language learning. Now I know what I am going to study, how I am going to study, when I am going to study and what results I am going to achieve. No problem could stop me! With an effective language learning plan my professional skills are more and more in demand internationally every day. Friends, don't stop there! Everyone has talents that millions of people around the world need! Learn the language and make your ideas and dreams come true! Thanks to the author of the channel for the informative and useful video! Your videos motivate me.

Hello, Zoe! I'm your subscriber, closely follow your videos, I am very fascinated by your discipline and you are an example for me. I live in Russia, far from the city in the countryside, I study at home, this video's become a support for me, thanks a lot to your advice! I have an English university exam in a month, I dream of devoting my life to learning languages. I don't have any teachers and I study on my own. To pass the exam comfortably, I need a B2 level, I am currently studying for my B1 and I hope I can improve my English before the exam. I see progress in something, but I am worried about my weaknesses in basics, especially I have problems with stative and active verbs, prepositions and problems with the correct use of words. I have a question, how to properly and effectively distribute all languages blocks for the day: listening, reading, speaking, grammar and vocabulary? I have to improve all the language skills of course, but the most difficult parts in the exam for me are speaking and reading. In the speaking part I have 4 tasks: reading a short text, answer questions from an electronic assistant on a specific topic, ask questions and I have to describe two pictures which shows two different ways for something ( having different pets, spending free time etc.) and talk about their advantages and disadvantages. In the reading part there's task where I have to read the text and choose the right judgments about it, this text is usually of the B2 level, many words are not clear to me. How to mix all of your grate advices on language learning with specific exam tasks? I will be very grateful for your answer!

it's hard to practice all skills at once, try to focus on one or two skills for a while. I see it is more important for you to work for your exam right now. It seems like you know your weaknesses and the tasks you need to do very well, that's a good thing! Just need to study with priorities, for example, speaking and reading for 1 month with lots of exercises for the exam. The most important thing is to set a concrete program and do it every day! I wish you good luck

I am not criticizing you at all, but I do notice that you have a strong Chinese accent when you speak English (in German or French you have less of an accent). Maybe it would be helpful if you learn the intonation of English sentences or work on clearer pronunciations? I do also have an accent too, I have no intention of being polemical.

Zoe-san. Thank you for your useful/effective/educational videos. I'm an intermediate English learner. Your pronunciation is so much articulate, so I can hear every word clearly owing to your deliberate effort. I thought your video would be suited for shadowing, but my speaking level is not so good as to keep up with your speaking. How would you think your speaking speed rate is normal/average? I suppose your speaking rate is faster(speed ratio = 1.25) than other English speaker. I would like to achieve shadowing your speaking before long. Would you mind if I ask you some tips of shadowing?
