    Good video! Are you going to port the head as well? I’d be interested to see what you recommend for an Mx5 head. (Assuming that was an Mx5 head- I don’t listen or read to well and have adhd so I may have missed something. And I drink to much coffee)!

    DriveItRyan I’m just starting my first go at porting. I see the ports are nice and short so I can get my fingers in the length of them quite easily. Going for mirror finish .... purely to avoid fixing a clutch fault

    Hi Quinn. On mx5miata.net you wrote "With a .060" shave and 10:1 factory pistons, there is still a good 1-1.5mm of clearance in the reliefs. ". That clearance was with stock cams or 10mm maruha cams? Thanks!

    I'd probably go with something less abrasive if you are just removing carbon.

    The valves really should be machined to angle. I did what you did, and it did last for 100000miles or so, but eventually the valves got burned due to the leaking. Ended up with a completely new head and now runs great.

    You don't have to cut the valves unless there was damage to them. Lapping is fine if you are working with clean valves and seats. I have not had any issues utilizing this same method on numerous builds of mine.

    Hey Quinn! I did not understand all... You clean the Head plan with what? I'll have to clean up soon a 98 BP4W head and a friend of mine recommended me to wash the head with high pressure water jet and brake cleaner before to send it to the rectifier for a little shaved (40thou) What do you think? Ps: I'm sorry for my bad english

  • @TheSlipAngle

    If you are sending it off to have it shaved, it's usually not much more money to have them hot tank it at the same time. When you get it back flush it out with water thoroughly to make sure there is no debris left inside.

    @@TheSlipAngle What do you mean by "hot tank it at the same time"? You mean the head will be washed before and after the head shaved? And another question, 40thou head shaved on stock ecu, will it work well? Does it need ajdustable cam gears? Thanks man!

    Most machine shops have a hot tank that they can soak and clean the parts in for you. It should be performed after the shave to get any shavings out, but it's a good practice to rinse it out thoroughly yourself afterwards also. I believe .040 can be done okay on a stock ecu but I have never tried it.

    @@TheSlipAngle Thanks buddy for your response! I read you're thread about the cam gears and you said that it's not obligated to run Aftermarket cam gear with only 40thou, that's right? No risk to run lean with this setup (It's an NA8, stock ecu, with BP4W head (+ NB1intake manifold) on NA8 block and just stock intake with aftermafket H.E? I plan to buy AFR + WB to control and If I run lean I should buy AFPR.

    No oil in the guides before lapping? All other YT channels advice oiling the guides before lapping

  • @TheSlipAngle

    @TheSlipAngle

    5 жыл бұрын

    I wouldn't put oil in the guides. They are plenty worn at this point and there is no friction or resistance when moving the valve inside by hand. I wouldn't want lapping compound or any foreign substances being promoted to sticking inside the guides.
